I've tried many, many different brand and found some that agree with me, and some that don't. I once was told that if the total carbs in a Protein bar aren't more than double the protein listed, then it's safe. It's not great for you, but better than some of the other bars. I have found that if you're lucky enough to live in the Kroger grocery store areas, that they have been having a weekly sale on Protein Bars, in thier health type food area of the store. They pick a few brands or styles and sell them 10 for $10. That's not too bad at all. Of course check the total carb to protein ratio to see if any worth buying that week. They normally change ads on Tues or Wed for the week.

I had the single incision VSG. But it wasn't single.....hahhaa I had a Q-ball incision also. A tiny cut that had a tube going in where they were able to put in pain meds directly at the site inside. It was less to take care of with the one 2inch glued shut and the small healing incision than 5 or more. I'm sure inside my stomach muscles were split open rather wide to put all the insturments inside. Lots of "learning" when healing with not using my stomach muscles, but rather glad i had it with only one incision.

can anyone recommend a good protein bar
roshov replied to janinemaire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try them all, that look good. The advice i was given was if the Total Carbs is double or more than the protien, don't eat it (got too many carbs). In Texas we have Kroger that has multiple brands always on sale 10 bars for $10, so i get to try multiple brands and flavors. -
Liquid Torture, I mean diet...
roshov replied to Papillon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A friend turned me on to Snow Cone places that had sugar free flavors. The place near me had 4 aweful tasing SF flavors, but the one near her had around 20 SF flavors. Grape is growing on me. -
You're probably going to be weak from loosing all that weight. B12, keep up the liquids and protein. Get out and walk and the energy will come back, slowly and steadily. You made a decision to eat better and do better. Take things slow :cursing:

Day 2 is bad.....and slowly gets better after that, as long as you don't push things too hard (and you'll know it quickly). You might have a few small set backs, but take it easy for the rest of that day (no using stomach muscles) and it will be better again by the next day.

When i'm not eating, i'm waiting my allotted time to drink again, and back and forth all day long....exhausting trying to get in all my protein and liquids. Protein bars help boost things and do go down really easy compared to some foods.

I'm reeeeeeeally tired of batiatric advantage shakes and looking for some ideas of the most tolerated and best tasting protein shake powders on the market.

And the stupid comments begin...
roshov replied to BlackBerryJuice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't mention Mexico, cause alot of people freak out. Just say you're on a diet or you've already eaten. It works -
No Cutting Sleeve? Have you heard of this
roshov replied to AlienBandit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know that they can re-size a gastric bypass pouch from inside, never heard about a sleeve from the inside. -
How long did you stay in the hospital?
roshov replied to Dave_NW's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to expect 2-3 days. I had my surgery on Monday mid afternoon and was discharged around 9-10 pm on wednesday. -
Cash Pay- Houston Area??
roshov replied to Tiffany_223's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try Dr. Sherman Yu or Scarborough in the med ctr area. They use different hospitals depending on insurance or cash. -
You may stall for a couple days....stay off the scale. Maybe once a week, weigh. Your body is getting used to what you did to it, what you're putting into it and how much exercise you're getting. Eat what works, just carefully.

How soon/How much walking
roshov replied to ChrisV67's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was walking SLOWLY about a mile on day 6 (carrying a bottle of water). DON'T get bored and try to do alot more than you should. 3.0 mph and 2.5-3.0 elevation on the treadmill on day 12-13....ohhhh i needed the liquid lortab that night. Just take your time and everthing will get easier. -
I'm "trying" to use bariatric advantage chewable vitamins and i get extremely nauseated every time i try them. I do Celebrate brand calcium (chocolate brownie) and it works for me. The chewable calcium tabs caused the same effect (nausea). Any ideas for vitamins that won't cause nausea so much? liquid, chewable, etc???

left sided pain (left of belly button)
roshov posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, they did most of the work on that side. When i walk (especially on the treadmill with it up some) and when i lean forward alot. I'm 3 weeks post op and wondering when everyone's pain finally stopped?? I know doing too much will zap me, just ready to do more  -
I've only got until monday morning for my surgery (today is saturday evening), but i'm getting really tired of all the little dizzy spells. shake = 160calories drinking 3-5/day. that equals 480-800 calories a day. Any suggestions for my last pre-op day or for right after surgey, where i'm sure the calories will be cut down even more and the dizziness will be back?
-
Also find sample sizes of any protein (bariatric style) that you can to try. Jello, pudding, broths, Keep changing it up so you don't get so tired of the same things.

You might want to stay away from other people eating and smells of food. The Bariatric Advantage brand is OK, but Unjury chocolate (no sucralose variety) with skim milk is like chocolate milk after it settles a minute or two after shaking. I've gotten burt out on the Bariatric Advantage chocolate. I've make it through 1 full big bag and about 2/3 of another one. Be sure if you buy another bag from online, they charge a 25% restocking fee. I think i'm gonna have to eat that one the extra bag i bought. I did buy a few bottles or singles which makes it easier for traveling. Just remember it will all be worth it. change things up some, because you've got 2 weeks after surgery also. Ohhh and sending out the secret hand shake here (day 2 you'll feel like hammered dog poo), expect it and it will get better from there. Once you get up and start walking it gets better, sitting in the chair makes all the difference as well as getting rid of the PCA pump and taking the lortab liquid (tastes like crap), but does wonders. If any other questions you can respond here or nocode3738@yahoo.com

I've been doing skim only. HEB if in your area has Mootopia which is very very low in sugars, but i don't think it has a very long shelf life. There is silk (soy) and almond i believe you can look at.
-
Try Unjury chicken soup or their regular chocolate (once it settles down with milk, it's like chocolate milk), the chocolate with sucrulose is way sweet, but still like chocolate milk.

So when does the sipping stop?
roshov replied to tootie46's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In a few days, you won't even realize it. It gets better. -
Why do I hurt so bad?
roshov replied to Mattsgirl1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 2 weeks out today and i still get abd pains, some were fairly painful and some were really painful. But i've learned that I can't use my stomach muscles and the pains go away with in a day or so. After the first 4-5 days of the pain med, i've only used it once since then. Things will get better, just lay low and don't try doing too much. (my error) -
Post-operative pain - is this normal?
roshov replied to Texanatheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a week and a half out and only having minimal pains when my belly hangs or pulls to the side when initially standing up or laying down. I've got 1 belly button (main)incision and a small left sided one where a Q-ball (not sure of spelling) was installed to put prescise pain meds near my stomach. I had to wait until mid afternoon for my surgery due to an emergency case and the doc came in and said he was going to make mine not-so-tight as usual cause i was a big guy. well i'll find out in the future if this is good or not, but for the first few days after surgery they had to keep pumping me with IV fluids cause i couldn't get down more than a few tiny sips per hour or so due to the swelling. I'm slowly trying to figure out the protein and calories (enough to do a lot during the day) and fluids are going down alot easier. I quit the lortab and doing tylenol liquid when necessary for general aches and pains. Check with your surgeon for pain lasting as long as you mentioned, shouldn't be like that.
