    maalox

The PA at my surgeon's office specifically recommended it... so I use it.
  2. If you're on an all liquid diet, it just makes sense that what comes out of you is going to be pretty much liquid too, doesn't it? My wls practice warned of very loose stools for a couple of weeks after surgery since I'm taking in so many liquids, and they were right on. I wouldn't be concerned unless your Protein drink is causing other problems.
  3. that's wonderful- congratulations!!!

    Port pain!!

Takes a while. I'm oh... 10 days post op? Something like that and my port still hurts when I bend over or stretch a weird way. Or poke it.
  5. Yes totally normal. I took a gulp of Maalox and it helped, or try taking some fiber if you're worried, but you're not constipated- you just don't have anything that needs to get out.

    hernia repaired???

None of my pre-op testing showed my hiatal hernia, so I was surprised when I was out of surgery and told that my surgeon found and repaired one. When I spoke with him the next day, he said that of the 3 bands he placed that day, the other 2 patients also had hernias, but theirs showed on pre-op testing-- mine didn't, and mine was the biggest of the 3. I do think it affects healing time and post-op pain, but not too much. http://www.webmd.com/heartburn-gerd/hiatal-hernia

    I'm just not losing weight

How about adding in some avocados? High cal and full of the good fats Oh and DELICIOUS...
  8. The bowel movement thing is normal since you're not taking in solids. I took a dose of liquid Maalox and it fixed the problem, other people take Fiber often. Are you having any other source of Protein other than SlimFast? You need to do your best to get in your protein every day (my surgeon says 60g/ daily) so you can heal well.
  9. Same as yours- sore if I poke at it, sore if I bend, a little sore still if I lay on that side. Does seem to be feeling better every day though- yours?
  10. I've been doing mostly well, except I'm not feeling so... peppy. I was warned that before you can go back to solids, you might feel weak or tired because you're not getting a lot of nutrition in. I guess that's the case with me! I've been following my plan (2nd week= full liquids) and I've also been journaling and it's odd to see how few calories I'm taking in every day. I guess once I move back to food I'll be taking in more. Good thing is I'm really not too hungry- when I get hungry, I "eat" a Protein shake or a sugar-free pudding and I'm good. It's a little weird I'm not used to not being hungry!

    Banded yesterday 4/21/11

Congrats to both of you! You'll be sore for a while, but yes, MAKE SURE you're getting your fluids in even if you're not hungry. If you end up dehydrated you'll feel 10 times worse! My appetite came back 6 days after surgery- FYI!

    Slippage possible without a fill?

Does your primary doc know about your surgery? You shouldn't take any NSAIDs if you've got a band.

    Post op pain rx

None- I had a scopalamine patch (sp?) behind my ear from early that morning, but I'm usually OK with meds. Make sure you talk to the anesthesiologist when they meet with you before surgery and make it very clear that you and codeine do not get along!

    Almost 1 week after!

Congrats! Yeah, I'd say your experience with the egg salad is pretty normal. I hope you're feeling better soon!

How long did insurance take for you?

Once my info was submitted to the insurance company they approved me within 2 or 3 working days BUT that was after they mandated that I remain in the practice for 6 months before surgery, so. I had no idea any insurance, or any practice, would approve within a month of starting!
  16. Yes, heating pad, and wave your arms in the air like a chicken. I know I know but it helps.

    Post-Op Disasters

I gained 10 pounds in fluid in the hospital and didn't lose it for almost a week after surgery. Don't beat yourself up.
  18. Are you still drinking protein drinks and if so do you mix them in a blender?

    Why am I back here???

Wow, what a scary story. I think you'll have a totally different band experience this time around!

    Shhh..don't tell my PCP!!!

LOL! Well if you're gonna be self pay and she's not super helpful, I wouldn't tell her until after it's over, but that's just me and not at all sound medical advice.

    introducing myself

Hi Faith! I CAN NOT IMAGINE doing the liquid pre-op diet, not for one week, sure as heck not for three weeks. That's AMAZING that you haven't cheated once Must make you feel like you know you'll succeed after surgery, since you have shown such amazing self control!
  22. I'm so sorry Mandy, I hope they figure this out soon so you can feel better and get back on track!

Is it all worth it to you??

Oh also, there are sub-forums here for people who have problems with their band or had to have their band removed- if you want to her from those who have issues, that'd be a good place to get info. I read in there a lot.

Is it all worth it to you??

Mmm hmm what Sgt just said. It does NOT do the work for you. It is NOT the easy way out. People who go into the surgery expecting a quick fix will fail. You'll see the failure stats but you won't see WHY each of those people failed the band. Some people do have problems with it, yes. But plenty of people also don't put in the work and then are disappointed by their results.
