Initial Restriction?
Rachel412 replied to Little Teapot's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have restriction, but I can tell as time goes on that it's partly from swelling. My first 6 days post-op, no hunger. Days 7-13, I'd be satifsied by my protein shake or a small amount of pudding and that was that. Now I'm on to the mushy foods and as time goes on I'm not feeling that full sensation as quickly, and I'm getting hungry sooner after eating. So while it's nothing like pre-surgery, I'm definitely on a slippery slope -
Hello??? Does lap band work???
Rachel412 replied to PamelaLVN's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm on mushy stage now, and I'm supposed to eat 3 times a day- 4 ounces of PROTEIN, then if I have room up to a cup of veggies, THEN carbs if I still have room and want it. Perhaps the whole problem here is he told you 4 ounces but didn't specifically tell you 4 ounces of WHAT? -
Eating without drinking

If you can remind yourself that you'll feel full longer if you don't drink, it's easier to avoid it. -

Do you have a nutritionist working at your practice? Were you self-pay? Is your surgeon nearby? -
how long did you have to do the liquid diet?
Rachel412 replied to cantwaittobeskinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After surgery? One week on clear liquids & jello (and protein shakes) only, one week full liquids only, 2 weeks mushy foods. -
I'm in the SAME PLACE today! Oy. I really didn't need to know I could tolerate more than full liquids...
-
I wasn't hungry at all until 6 days post op, but I've had restriction... after you eat something semi-solid, does it make you feel full at all? Some do, some don't... which is why this period is called "bandster hell". I'm sorry you're not feeling it yet!

Super excited scheduled surgery May 18th

If your surgery practice doesn't have a nutritionist, then yes, you should get one. -

I really have to think you're misunderstanding the directions. You're saying you're expected to exist on 14 ounces of fluids per day?!? A drink is not a food. Are you SURE, have you verified with your doctor, that when he says "half a cup at a serving 3 times a day" that he means that serving to be your liquids? I was told 60 grams of protein per day minimum, from the day after surgery. You're getting what... maybe 20 grams total? -
Weight loss for April bandsters anyone?
Rachel412 replied to Andytim08's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded on the 12th so tomorrow is my 2 week date- I've lost 15 pounds since surgery! Woot! My husband keeps yelling at me to stop weighing myself every day but it's sort of hard not to In the last week I was having days where I barely had more than my shakes but the satisfaction I was getting every time I ate isn't lasting as long as it was then... I was thinking "gosh if this is me without any liquid in the band, I'll barely need a fill at all" but I guess as the swelling decreases, food is passing through the band quicker. A normal day for me so far is around 800 calories, 70-80g Protein. Tomorrow's my first post op check in and I'm crossing my fingers that I get the all clear to move to mushy foods. I'd just like to chew stuff every once in a while. -
I use Viactiv chocolate multivitamin chewables.

Surgery 4-28, Camping 4-29
Rachel412 replied to icinderella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Think about it- your stomach is going to be very sore. So much so that bending, getting out of chairs, getting out of a REGULAR bed will be painful. Now think about how much bending is involved in setting up a tent, getting in and out of camp chairs, cooking around a campfire, sleeping on an air mattress/camp mattress/sleeping bag... I wouldn't do it. No way. And honestly you'll be in no shape to take care of someone else, never mind a large number of someone else(s), a day after surgery. I'm sure some will disagree with me but I highly suggest delaying your surgery if you can. Or not going camping. -
I can't wait to get on mushy foods- tomorrow. As long as I'm cleared by the doctor tomorrow AM. YAY!!!!

A heating pad is my #1 must have. I also just recently found protein shakes taste SO much better if you blenderize them, so a blender if you don't have one already.

I itched too, because I had a rash all over my belly from the iodine sheeting stuff they use... but if you're itching at the incisions, I don't think that itching would be from any sort of allergic reaction, so I don't think Benadryl would work? The PA at my practice had me take liquid Benadryl for the itching, but I don't know if it'd work in your case...

Methadone And Lap Band
Rachel412 replied to Justin B.'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great update Justin, I'm glad that you're moving along with your surgery footwork and with your Methadone treatment! -
I wish you great success!

Yes, that's the incision they use to put the band and tubing and port in. Tends to be painful for the longest. I wish you good healing!

LOL- sounds lovely! That was my favorite thing about the Percoset- it made me so darn HAPPY Take it easy, but not too easy- slow and steady!!

You had 2cc in there already?? Holy moly! I wish I could tell you something helpful about puking, but... I got nothing. Seems to me like it'd be harder to empty the contents of the "rest" of your stomach if you had to get it all up past the band, right?

Hi guys! Hope you don't mind me joining you. I'm Rachel, I'm 32, and I was banded on April 12th with a Realize band. I have 2 daughters (3 and 6) and a husband and we live in sunny (HA!) Massachusetts. I had started the lap-band process in 2006, but ended up getting pregnant while on my pre-op diet. Fine by me, as we'd been trying for 2 years and had had 2 miscarriages and had pretty much given up on having another child. Once she turned 2.5, we'd moved close to Boston and I decided to look into banding again. I was 282 at my first appointment. I went down to 271 at my last pre-surgery weigh in. I'm 5'7". So there's all my random personal info for ya I feel like I've been on this site 24/7 since I had the surgery!

Yes, it leaves me feeling weak and wiped out as well, though I'm now on "full" liquids. Gosh, I can't imagine only protein shakes and clear liquids for three weeks, you poor thing I would call your surgeon Monday morning and ask if you can be moved to full liquids now that you've been banded almost 2 weeks. It really does help you to feel more human.

I also have BCBS (different state) that requires a 6 month wait period. I had to submit records from my wls program, AND I had to submit 6 months of food logs. I would imagine just invoices aren't enough because you're not proving you ATE the right way? While you did WW did you keep your journals?

Congratulations! I'd hit Target for "cheap" clothes that look modern.
