Heh. I didn't really feel like a normal person again until 2 weeks post op. This part sucks... you just have to ride it out!

Too soon for protein shakes?
Rachel412 replied to lea3277's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree about following what your doctor said, but FYI, I was on shakes made with water from the day after surgery. Made with milk after 1 week. -
I agree, I was around 600-800 when I was 3 weeks out. Now I shoot for between 1,000 and 1,200 a day. Congrats on your success!

Can you make shakes ahead of time?
Rachel412 replied to topazz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sure, that would work! I don't know if the banana portion of the liquids will brown if you leave it in the fridge overnight, but it won't hurt it at all. Definitely worth a shot. -
Should I eat if not hungry?
Rachel412 replied to bluekerry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're getting in all your protein for the day, I wouldn't worry too much. I'd make your protein drinks with whole milk to get some extra fat and calories, but for now you should be all right. -
Well... I hate that your doctor won't be up-front with you about your band and your fills, but even though his bedside manner is horrid, he is right that you need to do the work on your own right now. It's something none of us want to hear because we keep waiting and waiting for this surgery to help us out, but in reality we need to work hard to lose this weight. They say it's not a diet but it is- at least so far for me. So while I don't like how he spoke to you, I do think *what* he was saying was important to hear.

That's not perfect- keep your appointment and get a slight unfill instead of a fill.
-
I had it for a few days after fill #2, until the swelling went down. I'd eat my food and then not even think about eating again until 4-5 hours later. Unfortunately it's gone now and I'm going for my 3rd fill this week.

Can you make shakes ahead of time?
Rachel412 replied to topazz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My understanding is that the nutrients in the shake break down after they've been sitting for a while, so I wouldn't suggest it. How about putting the peanut butter and banana in one container and the protein and liquid in another and leaving it in the fridge, so you just need to mix and go when you get up? -
not loosing weight
Rachel412 replied to jennyflower's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Doesn't sound like you're getting in much Protein. Did your doctor tell you to shoot for a certain number of grams of protein per day, or a certain amount of carbs? I really don't see how unfilling and re-filling your band will make any difference- if anything I'd think it'd make you gain instead of lose. -
I Have PCOS, want to lose 95 pds, will lapband help?
Rachel412 replied to Kenya1206's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have PCOS and I'm banded. So far so good! Does make it even harder to resist carbs, though... -
This is pretty much how I make it. http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/chicken-recipes/easy-chicken-stock Remember that it has to cook way longer than you think, something about the gelatin being released from the bones... I always think it's not working, it's not working, then BLAM, it eventually works. And it's soooo yummy.

I find the chart at the bottom of this page helpful. http://www.vitalady.com/protein.htm As for how much, our bodies can't process much more than 30g of Protein at a time. So you can have more than that but it'll just pass through. I wouldn't say one brand is better than another, the key is finding a flavor/brand you like. Everyone likes something different.

not loosing weight
Rachel412 replied to jennyflower's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not understanding why you'd have the Fluid removed from the band-- wouldn't that make your problem even worse? What are you eating in a typical day? -
The port pain lasts a long time. I'm 2 months out now and if I bend and twist the wrong way, I get it again. I used a heating pad on my stomach to help with the port pain, but logically icing it makes more sense.

how long on liquids after first fill?
Rachel412 replied to jennifer1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had a really hard time on liquids after my first fill too! My doctor says 24 hours on liquids, then proceed with normal foods with caution. -
Will playing a trumpet make the band slip? :)
Rachel412 replied to Kenya1206's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can't see any possible reason that playing the trumpet, or any other brass instrument, would make your band slip. Your band is around your stomach, not your diaphragm or your abdominal muscles. -

Losing weight sort of scary fast
Rachel412 replied to roziecakes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's very normal, and yes, it will slow down soon. I lost fast the first 3 or so weeks after surgery, -- between May and June I've only lost 9 pounds. -
I really think if you're eating lots of pasta because it doesn't get stuck, it's time for an unfill. I'm sorry you're going through this.

Interesting Article About the Band and Failure Rates
Rachel412 replied to KristeyK's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Very interesting, thanks for posting this. -
I scheduled my 3rd fill for next week. The first few days after fill #2 were great, but now that the swelling's gone, I'm back to bandster hell. It's SO hard.

As usual I agree with everything Rev says. She is wise. I hope you're able to get back on track!
