Important Question
Foxbins replied to newgrandmother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, what happened to me was around the time I hit a normal BMI my weight loss slowed down to about half a pound a week. I wanted to lose a bit more so I let it go on for a little while, then started adding in more dairy, the occasional sweet treat, a glass of wine now and then. My weight loss leveled off and so far, so good! -
Tingling And Numbness In Hand
Foxbins replied to ctaylor86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you taking B-12? Neuropathy is a possibility if you are not. All of us need B-12 supplementation following VSG. -
How Do Doctors Staple/sew?
Foxbins replied to Shape_Shifter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr. Aceves staples and oversews as well. -
136 this am, so down 1.5 for the week. It's water loss, I'm sure, I haven't had as much as normal this week.
-
It sounds like acid. Are you taking a PPI? If not, I'd start with some Pepcid and omeprazole. The Pepcid will address the acid right now, the omeprazole takes a few days to take effect.

Could This Be Linked To Wls?
Foxbins replied to HopeThruFaith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't see how it could be related--your gastric juices after WLS are the same as they were before--nothing is leaking out of anywhere that it couldn't have leaked out of before surgery. The only difference after this WLS is that you have a much smaller stomach, everything else is the same. -
What Cant You Eat Now?
Foxbins replied to JentryB2020's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I tried to eat bread at about 3 mos post-op and it felt awful--like it absorbed the gastric juices and swelled up inside, so I don't eat bread anymore. However, I can eat small amounts of toast or crackers without difficulty. My sleeve does not like scrambled eggs they just sit in there and feel like a rock for quite a long time after I eat them. I can eat an egg over easy without a problem. Weird, huh? The worst one is ice cream. Too much fat and sugar and it just feels terrible inside, so I don't eat it unless I'm out and I can't turn it down (like at birthday parties). I only eat a spoon or two and that's fine. I used to eat ice cream every day, sometimes more than once a day when I was fat, so being limited now is a good thing. -
I have MS and self-paid, but that was because I had a BMI of 35 and no co-morbidities. The MS didn't seem to be affected by surgery or my weight loss. I didn't relapse and I feel great.

Are you taking any supplements at all? A complete multi, B-12, and iron? Hair loss at seven months out is probably a sign of dietary deficiency and not just due to weight loss. Have you gotten a set of labs?

I was the only surgical patient on my day but it didn't matter. I slept all that day, and most of the next. By the time I was up and about, there were other patients there in varying stages of recuperation that I could talk to and walk with. You'll be fine!

You are doing great! 89 lbs is terrific, and loss does slow from the early months. As you get closer and closer to goal, the hardest part, I think, is not letting calories creep up and junk food creep in before you reach it. It gets boring eating the same things every day, especially when the scale is not dropping like it used to, but I tried to focus on my goal of being slender and fit more than the food I wanted at any particular moment. I tracked my food every day and weighed myself daily until I reached goal. If the scale did not move, I just told myself "Maybe tomorrow" because I knew I was eating and drinking the proper things. Slow and steady will get you there!
-
I get them too! Not very often, but every once in a while. I don't know if they are sleeve-related as I also had hot flashes post-menopause and pre-sleeve. I don't have any advice for you, but you're not alone.

Rejoice for now, it will slow down soon enough. You cannot possibly be losing fat at that rate, most of it must be water. It's not unhealthy and it's temporary.

Newbie Questions For Veteran Sleevers!
Foxbins replied to TMyers1471's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree with Perfectsleeve2012, you can have a sip after you eat solids. Any more and you will hurt! And push the food out of your stomach too fast. You want that dense Protein to stick around in there and make you feel full longer. I stop drinking about five minutes before I eat, that's how long it takes my stomach to empty liquids. On, and a "meal" is solid (or mostly solid) food. You don't have to wait before and after if your meal consists of a Protein shake. I had a drink about 8 weeks post-op, a glass of wine. it was fine but I don't drink much anyway. I don't know why you can't have salad, other than it's not very nutritious early out and it didn't sit well with me. I can eat it now but I prefer denser vegetables like steamed carrots or cauliflower. -
I have Hashimoto's too. My synthroid dosage was too low before surgery but my previous PCP refused to change it. After surgery, as I lost weight, my TSH slowly fell from the top of the range to about 1, give or take a little. I feel good at the lower range. My present doc says that TSH levels can swing widely on any given day and that the best way to prescribe the dosage is to look at the overall trend. Maybe ask for individual T3 and T4 tests to see what's going on?

Can You Ever Lose Too Much Weight?
Foxbins replied to fesenjoon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I see many people on these forums who never get to goal so I think that is a more prevalent problem than becoming too thin. If you think you are too thin, you can always start drinking calories (think milkshakes and juices) and bypass your restriction. Unless the person has some metabolic problem that should increase calories enough to reverse losses. -
Alvarez Or Aceves...help Me Decide
Foxbins replied to Krittle's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Both are good, experienced surgeons. I went to Dr. Aceves and still have all my organs minus most of my stomach. In my experience, Dr. Aceves takes care that you have no post-op pain or nausea and I was very grateful for that. Most of my post-op time I spent sleeping or feeling like I was floating in the bed. I'm sure one of Dr. Alvarez's patients will weigh in on their experiences too. -
Before I had surgery, I used to have scaly, dry, cracked elbows. Sometimes they bled slightly after I loofa-ed them in the shower. No matter how much cream I rubbed into them they remained the same. I noticed the other day that, to my surprise, my elbows are soft and smooth! I have done nothing to them--I haven't even thought about them for months. I also noticed that I used to have those little red pimple-like bumps on my upper arms and thighs and they are gone as well. I think that taking a complete multi-Vitamin every day may have something to do with it. When I was fat, I used to tell myself that I needed to eat lots of food so that I had a "balanced diet" and was "well-hourished" but basically I ate a lot of crap food--sugar and starch in large quantities. I suspect that I was probably low in some vitamin and now I'm not and it shows in my skin. It might also be the increase in fat in my diet. I used to be all about the low-fat, "diet" food but now I eat olive oil, full-fat cheese, and prime steak. Could it be I was missing some good fatty acids before as well? Anyone else notice a change in their skin?

Mine was fixed during surgery. I didn't know I had one, but afterward my surgeon explained that a lot of my pre-op burping and heartburn were due to the hernia.

If people were forward enough to ask, I never gave them a number. When they said, "Oh, how much have you lost?" My answers were, "A large watermelon" or "A cocker spaniel" or "A bale of hay." People who were interested could do the estimate or look it up, but in the meantime I'd change the subject.

Will I Ever Feel Hungry?
Foxbins replied to sid_n_reagans_mommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 18 months post-op and I don't get hungry. Like Cheri, I will feel empty and shaky if I forget to eat. It's a good reason to keep to a schedule of meals and to keep a protein bar in my purse for those occasions. -
Random Questions I Can't Find The Answers To
Foxbins replied to letsdothis!!!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can drink enough Water to stay hydrated after exercise. I haven't told my dentist and probably won't. I don't see the need. As a matter of fact, since I stopped eating junk, my teeth and gums are healthier than before surgery. the gallbladder pill is ursidiol. It has some side effects so not all docs prescribe it post-sleeve. I had my gallbladder removed 10 months post-op and it was no big deal. -
What To Pack For Hospital ( Mexico).
Foxbins replied to WLJourneyJ's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also slept most of the time, or talked to my fellow sleevers. I wore the hospital gown and my slippers. I wore the same yoga pants and shirt home that I wore on the plane there. I did use my heating pad, it helped with the shoulder pain from the CO2 gas. I took toothpaste and brush, shampoo, lip balm, undies. I took other stuff I never used--Kindle, phone, robe, another pair of shoes, etc. Pack light! You can always buy or borrow something if it turns out you need it. -
I don't think you are eating too much, but if you are going from "not full" to "stuffed" in an instant I think you are eating too fast. Put down the food between bites and give it a minute or two. You may find that you are satisfied with less. And I agree with Writergirl that your diet is awfully sweet. It may not matter now while you are actively losing but you will be glad in maintenance that you curbed your sweet tooth early. That stuff slides down way to easy and tastes too good!
