Still a Fight!!
**LaSaJaTa** replied to MommyTawnie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try NECTAR protien shakes. Peach is a great starting point. It's nice and clean, and will give you the protien you need. True that getting in your liquids is important, but with the right shake, you can accomplish both. The protien will also speed your healing. Also, when you're permitted soft foods, greek yogurt is a great way to boost protien. -
Tired of the lack of support
**LaSaJaTa** replied to mskissty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A truly terrible situation. You need support, especially loving support. Sounds like he's afraid, and is trying to sabotage your jouney to a healthier, happier you. Do not allow him to do this to you! I'm hearing all kinds of excuses from you, why you can't do this, or can't do that.....don't fall into his trap. FIND A WAY to do what you need, for yourself. FIND A WAY to get the food you need. Plan ahead, stock up. No excuses. FIND A WAY to get the excersize you need. Trade off with another local mother. You take her kids some mornings, then she takes yours. You don't need the gym. Go outside, go for a walk, a run. Work out at home, you don't need fancy machines. Tin cans and a few pieces of wood will help. FIND A WAY, you deserve it, and you owe it to yourself and your children. NO MORE EXCUSES. No more feeling bad. ONLY POSITIVE..... -
Big Fight with my Personal Trainer
**LaSaJaTa** replied to **LaSaJaTa**'s topic in Fitness & Exercise
Thanks JDR, do you have a background in physical fitness then? -
All, I'm about 2.5 months post op, and have started working out with a personal trainer at the gym. Needless to say, it's not going well...and so I'm very interested in some feedback from those of you who have been excercising for a while....please. When the trainers at the gym see a "big" person, they think "burn calories". In fact, I do not wish to burn calories, but rather, (based on my research), my goal is to build lean muscle mass. That said, I want to do High Intensity, High Weight training. That means, I want to work with 2 sets, 8-10 reps, of high weight to the point of muscle failure. This way, when I break down my muscle, my body will work to "build" it bigger and stronger in preperation for the next time I call on that muscle to "work" for me. The result is burning more fat (not calories) and building muscle mass, which in turn will help "fill me out" from the inside out, reducing loose skin. Once I can do 10 reps, rather than adding more reps of the same weight, I will add more weight. Does this make sense to anyone? The trainer says it's not the right approach, and he wants me to do 4 sets of 15 reps, which according to my reseach, will burn calories! I am barely getting in 600 cals a day....70g of protien, 10-20g of fat and 20-30g of carbs. Also, the trainer keeps reminding me that I am going to get sick if I continue to work out on only 600 cals a day....:cursing:. Of course, the trainer has no background in WLS nor has he ever read anything about it... Help! Any and all feedback would be appriciated.

One Week to Go... and I'm thinking of Chickening OUt
**LaSaJaTa** replied to rain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As I was reading from the beginning of your post, now down to this section, I was getting angrier and angrier...until I hit the update! WHOOOHOOO. I'm so proud of you for going ahead and getting the sleeve. You are very, very brave, and I'm so glad you took control of YOUR life this way. You're husband loves you, this I know. He's just scared of CHANGE. Change in your attitude, sexiness and self assurance. How will YOUR choice effect his lifestyle. This is just the way most men think, then they come around, and realize that "hey, it's not so bad", and they fall into step with you and once again, you "jive". Congratulations on making your brave choice. I could hug you!!! -
Let him think what he wants?
**LaSaJaTa** replied to creativeteach's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In my opinion, he's simply not interested. Showing interest would mean that he'd have to be "involved", which it seems, he's not willing to do. I'd be more prone to leaving things as they are, doing what YOU want to do, and hope he comes along for the ride after the fact. If he elects not to, then better you know now, than later. Oh, and when you're all slim and sexy, and he did not support you after the surgery, you can tell him to kiss your *^% if he comes sniffing around. -
BrownBear, this surgery changed my life! I will tell ANYONE who asks exactally what I've done to aid in my weightloss. No shame here....and IF I can help 1 single person by sharing the info on my surgery and the entire process, then I've played it forward, and for this reason, I feel proud. Proud that I FINALLY took control of the situation and my weight. Proud that I took control of my health and most proud that I can now go outside and play with my kids, and that I know I'll be around to see them grow up, get married and have kids of their own. Oh Yeah, and my husband feels proud of my dedication to the lifestyle, the gym and our family! Being scared is NORMAL. Be scared, it means you're paying attention. But, be excited too, because I firmly beleive this is a great tool, and I would not hesitate to shout it from the rooftops! Best of luck on your journey! Start your engines!!

Who's see Dr. Alberto Aceves-Mexicali?
**LaSaJaTa** replied to newmee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr. A is my personal Angel! I was sleeved in July this year, and can tell you that the ENTIRE expeirence, from pre-op to post-op was incredible. The staff were great, the hospital was ultra modern and clean. I had better care in Mexico than I have ever had here in Toronto. I do not hesitate in recommending Dr. A, his staff, the facility or the surgery! -
I"m going to cry!!!

Protein Drinks and Heartburn
**LaSaJaTa** replied to Christabel's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I agree with Tiff...try nectar Protien drinks, peach is yummy, as is the lemonaide -
I too am COLD! In fact, i've started wearing PJ's to bed, and my husband DOES NOT LIKE IT on bit! It's strange, everyone else in my family is VERY slim, (kids and husband) and they do not feel cold. Why me?
-
I agree, don't stop. Remember, building muscle means adding weight, as muscle weighs more than fat. I've been working out with a trainer for the last 3 months and although the scale moves very slowly (I'm training to muscle failure and building lean muscle) the inches are dropping off. The scale does not tell the whole story. You need to shock your body, be sure you are not burning too many calories, focus on building muscle instead. Lots and lots of Water.... Best of luck.

Protein shake, can't stand it!
**LaSaJaTa** replied to HeresKimmy's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Hi There...I have some GREAT news for you....Protien, at this stage of your recovery, as well as moving forward, is very important. The protien shake is the easiest, fastest and cleanest way to get protien into your body. Check out NECTAR protien shakes. The Peach/Coffee/Lemonade is very clean, and has no "protien" taste or chaulky feeling. You can order a sample pack from them, and they'll send you 12 flavours to check out. No kidding You won't regret it...trust me! It's probably one of the more expensive protien shakes on the market, but the price per serving is reasonable...and the biggest thing is you'll be able to drink it, no probs! -

Big Fight with my Personal Trainer
**LaSaJaTa** replied to **LaSaJaTa**'s topic in Fitness & Exercise
Hi Emilygrace, yes, your correct, you cannot burn fat and not burn calories, but my goal is to burn fat, and minimize the calorie burn, not to focus on calorie burn, as many non altered overweight people normally do... -
