I went to the doc today and asked him about how I will feel after the scope. He said for liability reasons they require someone to pick you up but I should be fine. He said the drugs only stay in your bady for about 8 minutes. Years ago that gave you different drugs that really make you feel out of it-but that's no longer the case. My friend is picking me up and then we are doing lunch since it would have been a long time since I ate. After lunch I'll see how I feel, but from talking to someone lese who had the scope and my doctor, I think I should be fine to drive home. If not I'll call someone.

Can anyone give me some info on this procedure and what to expect? The more details the better A friend was going to pick me up and go out to lunch until I feel up to driving- can I drive home an hour or so after having the procedure done. Will I even be able to eat afterwards-maybe just sip some tea? I only ask because it's about an hour from my house and I would rather not have to ask someone to take off of work to drive me home. Your input will help me make my decision- thanks so much!

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
NJGirl32 replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was waiting for your story too!! Thank you SO much for the very detailed post-it really gives me a good idea of what to expect! At least theygave you good meds! I read on this forum plenty of times to not be a hero and take the meds I can't believe they let you leave the same day. I wish they would let me leave the same day-but I have to stay overnight What a relief it must be to have the surgery part behind you! Do you work? If so when do you plan on returning? I think it's greatthat you had your husband there to support you! Take care and please continue to keep us posted! -

That's exactly how I feel-as long as I wake up alive I can deal with anything! lol Maybethe gas pains will come later (perhaps you are still under some effects of the pain killers?) Did you have a single incision? I wish my surgeon did that type of incision. Hope you are feeling better! -

Thinking of you and hoping all is well! How was it? Are you in pain or was it better then you thought? I go in on May 25th-very nervous too! -
I thought to port site is slighly above the belly button and my jeans would come right around that area -not below. I just assumed that I would have to wear loose pants until it healed?? Thanks for the suggestions-some stuff I never thought about!! Not too sure about pureed chicken though If I get a pedicure wouldn't they take off the polish for surgery?

I have a long list of Protein Supplements that I need to take- but the nutritionist recommended these two as being the best. I don't trust her because she's skinny Has anyone tried these before I purschase them? Which flavors are the best? She recommended I add 1 scoop of Strawberry Sorbet Unjury to 8oz of fruit flavored Crystal Light Sunrise Classic Orange or Raspberry Ice. I love Crystal Light so that shouldn't be a problem as long as the Unjury isn't horrible. She also said I could add Choc. or Van. Unjury into skim milk- has anyone tried any of these and what's it like? They said I only have to do the diet for 1 week if my BMI is less than 45-which it is. I think I can survive 1 week. Did anyone order them online? How long does ittake to get delivered and is it delivered in a private sort of package? Thanks for all the input!

I thought this was a standard procedure for the lapband. I have the Dr. visit first and then next week the scope.
-
I actually wentto lunch today with someone who has had the band for 3 yrs. (I get my band the end of the month). Anyway, after lunch she very graciously excused herself from the table and walked to the bathroom. She was stuck and said it felt like heartburn and threw it up.

Anyone have any recommendations for a NJ or PA Doc?
NJGirl32 replied to suez1105's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You lost 30 pounds in 1 week?!! I didn't think that was even possible-congratulations!!!:tongue3: -
I was thinking the same thing- 20 pounds in 1 month is awesome! Next time you go into the supermarket pick up 2 10 lb bags of potatoes- that's how much you have lost! Also, from my understanding, it can take a while to get the fills exactly right. Good luck !!!!

Thanks! -
:oThanks for the input! At least I'll be able to go to lunch because I have my pre-op the first thing in the am and I'll be starving (no eating after midnight) then I go for the scope.

Wife is against me getting the band- very bummed
NJGirl32 replied to Peter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try giving her something that weighs 75lbs ( or something very heavy ) and tell her to walk up and down the stairs carrying it. Then tell her that's what it feels like being overweight and why it's so difficult to be motivated enough to exercise. My dog only weighs 19 pounds, but when I pick her up and walk around the house it's very tiring and I can't do it for very long. I often think that if I lost even 19 punds it would be equal to not carry a Jack Russel around with me all day. My goal is to lose the equalivant to 4 Jack Russels ! lol -
Banded Since July 28,2010 weighed 318. Now 238
NJGirl32 replied to mandyloft's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations on your awesome weight lost!! That's amazing- I think maybe your goal should be losing 100 pounds by your year anniversary-that alone would be a huge milestone for one year! Good luck to you! -
Comedian gets lap band sings about it!!

:DI always thought comedians were so brave- no way could I get on stage and be so vulnerable to people I don't even know! Cute song-good luck with your surgery -
Okat, I went to my appointment with my cardiologist. She was super young with a Harley shirt under her scrubs- she must be a resident- I can't imagine her being a Doctor! Her phone kept going off down the hall and she had to leave to shut it off-the ringtone was the music to "Kill Bill." WTH? Then I saw her texting-and taking personal calls about her kids in the hallway. Then she looks at me and says "You're getting a lapband? You just don't look like someone who would get a lapband" WTH does that mean? Okay- I carry my weight evenly - BUT I am 246 pounds! She said my EEG (or whatever it is) had some lines that went down-she said that can be normal difference. They gave me a ECO-son0gram? That's a ultrasound of the heart. They scheduled me for a stress test on Tuesday. Did anyone else have to do a stress test? What do they make you do? I am hoping everything is okay- I feel really healthy but I do get out of breath going uphill-but I would think anyone over a 100 overweight would!
-
I just received the offical l etter as to when to come to the doctor for my pre-op visit and the actual time of the surgery and all the formalities-this is real! I have a stress test on Tuesday and my other dr. apppointment on Friday. I have alreay seen the nutritionist, pulmonologist, cardiologist, and psychologist. 28 days and I STILL haven't told my husband. I am throwing a big birthday party for him this Saturday with lots of people- I really wanted to wait until after that. Then I am thinking mayve I should wait to see if I pass the stress test first. I think my preop in May 12th-geeze this is all coming so quick! I figue next weekend I guess I'll have to say something!! Ny daughter (24yr. old) was joking with me today and said "You can't keep a secret" and I quickly said "Oh yes I can!" So my husband said "They way you replied you must be sitting on a big one!" Hmmm- I wonder if he suspects something? I have never mention a single word to him about getting a lapband. Truthfully...a small (very small, tiny, teeny weeny) part of me thinks I could still do it without anyone knowing. I have read all the comments and I know that I really need to tell at least my husband. I do believe he'll be supportive. Hopefully next week this will be behind me.

Surgery 4-28, Camping 4-29
NJGirl32 replied to icinderella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't go - take this opportunity to recover without the kids in the house. That weekend should be all about you and your recovery-it's a godsend that the kids get the opportunity to go camping so you can focus on you. Just think of all he great bonding opportunities you'll have with them when the weight comes off! Don't feel guilty- you are doing this so you can enjoy a longer healthier life with your boys!
