My doc said I could take Tyenol PM (sp). I also hold a pillow against my side. I feel comfortable on my right side with pillows under my legs. Sometimes I feel good laying half upright. Take some pain killers right before you go to bed and that should help-don't eat rught before bed either. Sweet dreams of a skiiny body!

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
NJGirl32 replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First, thank you so much for the support and encouragement! Now here's the details: Surgery scheduled for 1:30 but didn't go in until 2pm. My husband stayed by my side up until the point and gave me a kiss as they wheel me in. There was a small TV screen and lots of nurses. I remember them giving me a shot through my IV and thinking they better get me on the operating table quick because I know this works fast. Sure enough that was the last thing I remember. I woke up in recovery thinking no way is this reversal because I was in a lot of pain and couldn't imagine going through it again, but Part of my problem was an IV that was not fully funcioning. They asked how much pain I was in and I said a 7 (1-10), but I would highly advised you to not feel like you're exaggerating and be honest so they give you meds faster. I was on morphine drip but they gave me a needle of pain kilers with helped a lot. I was in recovery 2 hours until they managed the pain while my husband was in the waiting room. They didn't know he was inthe waiting room and I think he could have been in recovery with me. So ask when you're in recovery is yr spouce can be with you. They took me to a private room. I was pretty dopey and at one point I just really wanted to sleep so at 7pm I told my Hubby to go home. But I couldn't sleep the entirenight because I had to keep pushing the morphine button every 10 minutes. The best thing I brought to the hospital was my ipod because I could close my eyes and relax. ... -
can i drive myself to surgery?
NJGirl32 replied to falcon's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There is no way you can drive home after surgery-absolutely no way. They wheel you out tothe front door and make sure someone is waiting for you before they release you. They won't even let you take a cab unless someone other than the cab driver is there-you will be sore and out of it a little. If you drove tothe hospital who would drive your car home? It's so much better to have someone by your side throughout this process. When I git out of surgery I was so happy to see myhubby! Forget the play-there will be lots of other things to go to-have someone record it and watch it together when you get home! This is about you and your health comes first. My nurse even advised me against going to malls the first few days because of the chance of picking up an infection. -
My Husband was the same way-supportive then as the surgery day neared closer I got the silent treatment-I think it was his nerves and worrying. Men just can't come out and say they are worried-they show it in other ways. But on the day of the surgery he was truly amazing and still is 2 days later. It will all work out!!

The day after surgery I was wheel to the xray place and drank chalky white stuff. Everything looked good. The doctors came in and said everything went fine. I have 6 incisions which I thought was odd and a larger one by my belly button-he said that was for the camera. The other incisions looks very small. he port gave me a lot of pain and holding a pillow to it helped a lot. I could barely eat anything the day after surgery. The day of surgery they didn't give me anything to eat or drink-my throat was dry and sore I had a raspy voice. The chicken broth was good-but only 1 shot glass at a time. So far no major gas, but I realize I am not home free and it could happen at any time. A little acid reflux which I am taking meds for. I slept pretty good on my right side thanks to Tynelol (sp)with codine. Today I have to force myself to walk around a little. I am a slow healer. It just feels like I have been punched in the stomache a few times. I still can't eat much but I love my icy pops! Make sure you get some sugar free pops for the freezer-yummy! I am invited to a BBQ tomorrow-I am up in the air whether I feel like stopping by or not. Thanks again for everything!!

I keep reading about hernia repairs-what's that all about? Where is the hernia located and what exactly is being repaired? Why do so many Bandsters get them? Any insigts would be appreciated. Does it take longer to heal when you have a hernia repaired> Where there any indications prior to surgery that something needed repairing? Are most of us walking around with hernias that need repairing?

Someone I know who had the band wanted to see if I wanted to meet for lunch. I told her I am on liquids and she said everyone has the last supper the day before surgery. I never heard of this- I said no-but boy-oboy I sure could use one last spurge!!! Has anyone else eaten a regular meal the day before surgery? I am SO tempted but I have been so good all week.
-
I am on the liquid diet now, but I am curious as to what post-bandersters had to eat on Saturday for B-L-D and snacks. It will be interesting to hear the variety and my inspire some meals choices!
-
I am leaving in an hour-surgery isn't until 1:30 though. Good luck and let us know how you make out!!
-
My pre-op visit was interesting. She said that there's fat around the stomache and as the fat decreases you'll need a fill-probably 3-4 fills till the band is just right. Did anyone else get this info from their dr? This is the first time I am hearing about it.

what happens if you start your preop diet late?
NJGirl32 replied to healthierme72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Probably not the wisest move especially since your suppose to help skrink the liver with this diet. Be very strict the next few days and you should be fine! Good luck with the surgery! -
Pre op diet day 7....help!
NJGirl32 replied to enchilada72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure you are drinking lots of water and take your vitiamins too! The high protein shakes should help too. Someone once wrote that they put a note up that said "I can do anything for ___ (insert how many days left) days. For example "I can do anything for 6 days" change the number each day. Sounds weird but it really helped me somehow. I had soup (low sodium french onion no cheese or bread of course) and I sliced mushrooms into it. It was like heaven!! Good luck you can do it!!! -
Tomorrow I'll be a Bandster!! So ready for this! Every time I lookin the mirror I think -wow, why did you wait so long? All I wantto do is wake up from the surgery-I'll deal with any pain as long as I make it throught the surgery-all prayers welcomed!! My hubby has been moody lately...not sure what that is all about. I would think he would be extra sweet and nice-but the last 2 days he's been quiet and grumpy. Now it could be that I have my period and I am having the surgery so I am extra sensitive I am not sure. I've also been a little teary-eyed the last 2 days. But I put on my big girl panties and snapped out of it! All I really know is that this surgery is about me-it means taking control of my own life and looking forward to looking in the mirror once again! You know that Michael Jackson song "I'm looking at the man in the mirror, and I'm asking him to change his ways" well that's how I feel-the change is goingto happen! I'll be sure to give you an honest update of tomorrow's events! Thanks you again to everyone on this forum! I have learned so much and have felt supported by you all!

I wrote her an email and told her-then right before I sent it I deleted the part about the lapband surgery. I like the element of surprise and I'll simply say to her "Well I did mention that I was going to get this done"
-
My best friend for 40 years doesn't know I am getting the band tomorrow. She lives in the next state and we email each other every day. A month ago I mentioned I was thinking about getting the band. Her email back was mostly small talk then at the end she said she didn't know whatthat was. I sent her some info and gave her a little bit of a descriotion and asked her notto tell anyone. She replied back notto worry she wouldn't tell anyone. And that's where the story ends. She never mentioned another word and neither did I. I just didn't find her that much interested in it (she' s normal sized). It's not a jealousy thing-trust me it's not. Either she doesn't approve or simply isn't interested, or doesn't think I am that serious. So it feels weird going in and she doesn't even know. We don't see each other that often (maybe once every 2 months). Should I send an email letting her know or just wait till I see her next time ?

NJGirl32 replied to NJGirl32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

How many visits with Doc. before surgery
NJGirl32 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only met with my doctor 1 time and my surgery is scheduled for Wed. Today I went for my pre-op visit but met with his associate. He was actually stanfing near the reception area and I was thinking-geeze this man is going to being seeing me completely naked and putting instruments in my body in 2 short days-and he doesn't even really know me! It was just weird. He comes highly recommended though. How many face-toface visits have you had withyour actual surgeon? -
How many visits with Doc. before surgery
NJGirl32 replied to NJGirl32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What does NUT stand for? I see a lot of people use this acronym- -
I don't have reflux but my endoscope said I had Gasterious (sp?). SO i'll need to take pills for that 3 weeks after surgery so it doesn't erode the band.
-
When I go into the docs office I go in shell shocked-seriously! I forgetto ask questions and details! I went in for my pre-surgery consult and they gave me a prescript for Omeprazole 20 mg and told me to crush it up in applesauce each day after my surgery. Does anyone know what this is? I think she sais something about an anti acid but I could be totally wrong. I got home not having any idea whatthis prescription is for - I know I could call the doc. but I thought I see if anyone know first. Thanks!

NJGirl32 replied to NJGirl32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks! I guess he is nervous too. He said he had a dream that I was eating an almond hershey bar and was thinking that I shouldn't be eating that with surgery? WTH? LOL We'll see how much of a help he is post surgery. As for me I just can't let negative thoughts enter my mind!!
