NJGirl32 replied to Ducker's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Love, love, LOVE this post!! I think you really captured the true picture of being banded! -
What kind of restriction after 1st fil?
NJGirl32 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hope some of you can give a Bandster Hell gal some hope! I won't have my first fill for another 3 weeks. I read that it can take several fills to feel something. Did anyone get good restriction with their first fil? Did it help with your appetite at all? How many weeks did you have to wait until your 2nd fill? -
What's the deal with Greek Yogurt anyay?
NJGirl32 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A lot of people on this forum mention eating Greek Yogurt and I was curious as to how it's different than reguar yogurt> My friend has a fittness instructor who recommends it and I am watching the Nate Berkus show and they are saying it makes the skin better. I checked it out in the supermarket and it is not that low in calories (compared to Dannon light), So what's the deal with GY anyway? How does it taste? Should I try it? -
Okay, so my hubby has a super active social life thanks to this club he belongs to. I avoided going to a few events since my surgery (pig roast/pinic, conecert/BBQ etc.) Well Sunday I am going to a big Irish Festival at a racetrack. There will be plenty of BBQ and drinks. I have no restriction but I have been pretty good with the diet (except I had a little more than just mushies-but nothing bad). I am thinking of having 2 beers and some BBQ food. I know there will come a day were I will get stuck or need a PB -but those days are nowhere in sight for a while. Would it be really sucky of me to enjoy the day with a beer and BBQ...yeah I know I can enjoy people's company and the festivities, blah, blah, blah...but really! Any thoughts? Did anyone else indulge a little more than they should have? Oh how I wish I had some restriction!!

What kind of restriction after 1st fil?
NJGirl32 replied to NJGirl32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, so I shouldn't expect reallu anything for my first fill-and if I do it won't last long I wonder if I can ask my doctor to be agressive with it??? Is that ever done? Or at the very least request that I come back sooner if the fill isn't making a difference? I just can't see the point of waiting weeks for another fill when the purpose of the surgery is to help control the hunger. Has anyone else asked their doctor for more ccs or to come back sooner? I don't want to wait 2 months to feel any restriction -
How long until you were back at work?
NJGirl32 replied to lv2h8me's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had surgery on a Wed. and went back on Tues because it was a holiday weekend. I wish I could have taken longer because I was sore. My dress pants bothered my incision even though I sat at a desk all day. The rest of the week I wore stretchy pants. -
That's such a great achievement!!! Just think that you are no longer walking around with the equivalent of another human being!! Today I was picking up 40 pounds of cholorine for my pool- that 40 pound container was SO heavy I could barely life it...I mean it was REALLY heavy. Then I thought..geeze if I lost 40 pounds it would be like not carrying around this container all day! Your body must be so thankful!! I am really proud of you and I think it's amazing! AT least you are still losing! Congrats again!

Thinking about cheating on Sunday
NJGirl32 replied to NJGirl32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
[Why do the thoughts of others have any impact on your decision? You must know what's best for you, and what you can live with.......... Why did you have the band? Wel this is a support forum so I do appreciate suggestions of felow Bandsters who have deal with similiar situations and I actually got afew good ideas of what to eat and to skip the beer. I am still in the learbibg stage so of course I want input. I had the Band to help with portion control and I have been making realy good choices thus far (considering I have no fills). I didn't get the band to never be able to eat real food in real situations. I don't always know what's best for me-it's a learning process. -
Thinking about cheating on Sunday
NJGirl32 replied to NJGirl32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone! I never thought about the beer thing-you are probably right I should definitely stay away from it at this early stage! I was thinking of a piece of BBQ chicken and a salad or maybe a burger without the roll? I have been pretty good so far and I absoultely don't plan on pigging out. I am even playing around with the idea of having a shake before I go so I am not that hungry. -

That's good to know!! I would never have thought to use it to replace sour cream! Thanks! -
Uh oh! Reached a plateau already!
NJGirl32 replied to More2Love's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At least you had a huge weight lost prior to the stall. I lost 14 pounds and nothing after that! From my understanding (through this forum and YouTube videos) this seems to be VERY normal. The trick is to stay with it and ride this wave and before you know it you'll be losing! -
No, not at all-I was really swollen too! Even though I had lost 14 punds my pant were tight-really tight. My first day back to work I had to unzip my pants and I wore black yoga-pants the rest of the week. I amover 2 weeks post op and my pants don't feel any looser. I think in your case it may be the gas build up?? It will go down!! Good luck!

Keeping the lap band a secret from friends and family
NJGirl32 replied to angel2001's topic in The Lounge
I ony told my hubby and 2 people I work with-that's it! It is a very personal choice. I am guessing that I will tell my mother and maybe my daughters once I start to lose some major weight. I have no guilt and no regrets-I feel ike this is my battle to fight. -
You will still enjoy food, but it no longer will be the center of your life.

What I Wish I Had Known Before Banding
NJGirl32 replied to Ducker's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, I'll play! I still have a lonnng road to go, but here are some things I wish I knew: I wihs I knew the for at least the first 2 months I would be dieting on my own without restriction. (it can take several fills) I thought I had my BIG last supper before surgery-but I could eat the same amount of food now without a probem I aso wish I had tried Totally Lean GNC Swiss Choc protein shake before I spent money on all those crappy tasting shakes I wish I could be better with mushies but they simply don't fill me enough-I add a little more then mushies to my diet (still being good though) I wish I knew that I would barey see my surgeon at al! HE is SO busy and the visits go so quick! I wish I knew the weight was going to come off A LOT slower than I thought! With al that being said I canhonestly say that I am looking forward to this journey. I can't wait to lose weight!! -
My stitches are still there-a least part of them and I am 2 weeks post surgery! They are suppose to dissove or falout on their own. My doc said he woud take them out if they are stil there next week. I can't complain too much thogh because my incisions look pretty good
-
Oh I am SO glad to hear that! I am hoping I can feel a difference after my first fill!!! I was worried that it might not make a difference at all. Do you get filled with a lot less? Right now I can eat ANYTHING!
-
Not losing what I thought I would
NJGirl32 replied to LorieM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I toitally understand-but you have lost a lot so far! I feel the same way-if I am eating so much less then before surgery why am I not losing more? I have been stuck at the same weight lost ! It is frustrating and I would get a fill for 3 weeks! I know, I know, it's all about healing-but come on! Then to read that for some people it takes several fills to feel that "just right" feeling is frustrating. I can't wait unitl the fills start happening! -
LOL!!! I think I'd faint if my DH ever cleaned the floor! That was a good day for you in more ways than one!
-
Ask how they manage pain after surgery just so you know. I also asked for my note to be out of work so I didn't forget (yes, I need a note to be out). You might want to ask how long you'll have to wait for a fill. maybe what to do for gas pains? I asked what time should I expect to be discharged. Don't be nervous it will be fine!! Don't forget you ipod-I couldn't read after surgey and I got sleepy watching TV. Good luck!!!!
-
I totally agree with SPOT's comment...I mean really who says sh*t like that? I think the dieting might be making her cranky. And we ARE doing it the old fashion way-dieting, drinking water, and excercising. Getting skinny is the BEST revenge!! lol

I am almost 2 weeks and still have some swelling, but it's going down. I think by week 3 I'll be fine!
