Mexicali and Dr. Aceves Tests Tomorrow!
sickofrollercoaster replied to imwendylou's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good evening everyone! I talked with Nina about a spinal block and she did say that it was done after you are sedated and that it is done to help in recovery. She said that doing so helps patients get up and get moving much sooner and it decreases complications (I assume from patients getting up and moving!). I have had two spinal blocks for birthin' my babies and although I hate needles, they were ok. So I figure if I am alseep, I really do not care AND if it helps recovery I am all for that. I will definitely talk with the professionals once I get there the day before surgery but right now I am leaning towards having it done. -

Tiffy, you made me cry... I have felt all of those pre-op things you have, I was pregnant twice, once with twins and Totally miserable! I am so happy that you will get to experience pregnancy from a different perspective, a healthy one! I will not have any more children but look forward to looking the way I feel inside. I can't wait to start my journey, my fears are just as everyone's are I think, can I do this? Will I see results? I am a "lightweight", can I still reach my goal? Thanks for sharing! YOU LOOK AMAZING! And not just the clothes talking, it shows in your face just how happy you are! Congrats! You did it! -

Mexicali and Dr. Aceves Tests Tomorrow!
sickofrollercoaster replied to imwendylou's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So the spinal block is optional? I have had many surgeries and have a high tolerance for pain, only time i had the block was for C-sections so that i could be awake of course. The ONLY issues I have ever had with surgery is when they wake me from surgery, I get nauseous. They usually give me phenergan which works great but knocks me back out for a couple more hours. -

Thank you! Well I have had two spinal blocks with the two c-sections I had, was not a good experience at all! So I get another ativan on the morning of surgery? I also hate IVs so you see where I am going with this??? Thanks so much for the reassurance, promise my nerves will get worse BEFORE it gets better! -

I don't guess clear liquids includes coffee..
sickofrollercoaster replied to goodlife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ladies, just 11 days away from my big day! I have to admit, feeling overwhelmed trying to figure out exactly how my eating will be. On Clear Liquids, this means Water based correct? Meaning no Protein shakes, only powder in something like crystal light? Sorry, my head is just spinning, it truly will be a lifestyle change... I don't want to buy a bunch of stuff just to not like it later so I really want to make sure I am doing the right things on what I need for the first 10 days, etc. So does clear liquid really mean something that you could see through? Of a water type consistency? -
Good evening everyone! Well in 13 days I will join the ranks, Dr. Aceves will be performing my VSG, very excited... BUT of course I am now thinking of every possible question leading up to the big day. This evening, it is all about the staples they use... What if my body reacts to them? Do they eventually dissolve? Could they work themselves out of place? If anyone has any research/information on the staples and safety of this procedure in terms of the way they secure that side of your stomach, I would be so grateful! Thanks everyone!!!

Kay! Hello and Welcome! I will be sleeved on May 10th by Dr. Aceves! I have also met another lady here recently who will also be sleeved on the 11th! So you will not be alone! If you have any questions, this is the place to be for sure! I understand the nerves and impatience, I have two different calendars that I am marking off each day for the countdown! If you would like, send me a private message and we can exchange contact info. Are you bringing anyone with you? My Mom is traveling with me... Yay, another sleeve buddy! Angie

Isn't that a GREAT feeling! I weighed about 110 in high school. At my 10 year reunion, 240!!! I was so depressed to go but I am one of the class officers so it was expected that I be there. Three more years for the 20 year reunion and I want that wow factor now! I want to be healthy and happy! Congrats, it sure is something small, or so it seems, but those little victories are the ones that reinforce your decisions and add motivation!

Blood loss during surgery
sickofrollercoaster posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know that blood loss is a risk of surgery. I am having surgery in Mexicali by Dr Aceves. If I need a transfusion after surgery, is blood available? Also, where will they get the blood and has the blood gone through te same testing as blood at our US blood banks? I say that cautiously as I know there have been cases in the US where infected blood was given through transfusion. Just another question to be answered prior to surgery. -
