Old Habits die hard ... Eating & Drinking together <sigh>
mina replied to Sunny702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i still don't chew my food enough and suffer waves of pain. It makes eating miserable sometime. Also, I'm not getting enough fluids in because of having wait an hour after eating. -
I had told my sister (who is skinny) that I wanted to have surgery. Since I didn't get approve by the insurance co. I m going to mexico. I had made the decision not tell my family. She asked me today the status of my surgery, I told her it was on hold for right now.she did a dance of joy!!!! And said good. She said I m losing weight and should continue losing weight. I told her losing the weight is not the problem its maintaining. I m glad I didn't tell her my decision. She'll find out after the fact.

congratulations! that's really great accomplishment. Also, it's awesome that you've went back to school. -
im seriously regretting this
mina replied to lovemyboys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the first couple of weeks, don't stress too much on getting the protein in, concentrate more on fluid. The first week I was lucky if I got 16-20 oz in, just do the best you can. When your stomach and body heals you will be able to take in much more. -
WARNING: This post is going to be whiny.
mina replied to Bitties's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery 6/11 and the first week i dropped 14 pounds! I was over the moon then it has been 1-2 pounds a week. The week before my period I gained 2 pounds and didn't lose for almost 2 weeks. I put away my home scale and only weigh myself at work and I try to weigh once a week, at most 2x a week. I am just glad that I went from 228 and now I'm 202, these are pounds I am determine never to see again. It's frustrating but hang in there. Also try to weight yourself at the same time, for me my weight fluctuate 2 pounds from morning and night. -
How long are leaks usually a concern?
mina replied to VSG4aHealthierMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
there's a new procedure call ROSE for people who has had the RNY years ago with weight gain.. I don't know if that's what they are going to do for your friend. ROSE, which stands for Restorative Obesity Surgery, Endolumenal, is a new, safer, incisionless, gastric bypass revision. It is not a primary method of weight loss surgery, but a follow-up procedure that is specifically designed for gastric bypass patients with weight regain. The ROSE procedure is indicated for gastric bypass patients who were initially successful in losing the excess weight but are now regaining some of the lost weight because the stomach and stoma have stretched out and no longer effectively control hunger and food intake. -
I'm on regular diet and have been since the first week of july. I had my surgery on june 11. I read the forums and people are able to take in over 70 grams of protein and 64 oz of water a day and are able to keep the carbs less than 30 grams a day. I was told it was better to get most of my proteing from food and not the shakes. The problem is I can't get more than 30- 40 grams of protein (if i'm lucky) and 30 oz of water a day. It take me so long to eat, I keep pushing back when I can drink and then i forget to drink. I'm worried about muscle loss and dehydration. I'm feeling overwhelmed. I've tried greek yogurt and cottage cheese but did not like them. I have been good making sure i eat 2 to 3 times a day. what foods have high protein and low calorie beside meat. thanks for your help.

It is normal to be scared... this is a big decision. I had my surgery june 11 with dr aceves and I was a wreck until the last 2 days. A calm came over me and also I made sure to do projects to keep my mind off the surgery. You will do great! keep us in touch with your progress.

3 drinks in three hours? wow that would be great. I have to make a conscious effort to drink 20 oz of Water (and I love water) in an eight hour work period because I have to wait an hour after I eat and I take long to eat. I even add crystal light to help me drink it faster. An iv would be great then I wouldn't have to worry all that Fluid intake.

great ideas.. I tried the greek yogurt with a Protein shake and it was good.

Hey there autumnLily.. I eat meat but I can't eat a lot of it. I take 2 bites and I am done and I know that I m not getting a lot of Proteins from the amount I'm able to eat. I'm a carb person, lol which is one of the reasons I got fat. Every food that I'm use to has a lot of carbs and when I think of proteins I think of meat (and now also Protein drinks).

So I haven't had any weight loss in 2 weeks.I don't know if this is a stall. I did have my period last week and actually gained a couple of pounds, which I expected but did not like. Anyways, I weight myself monday morning and was back down to 204. And lately I have been doing really good with weighing myself just once a week. But today, stupid me decide to see if I lost anymore weight and weigh myself after being up and about for 9 hours and was not happy to see the scale say 206. I don't know why I did that to myself. I always weigh myself in the morning. Now I'm scared to weigh again.

Today was suppose to be my weight day but I was so scared to see no weight loss that I didn't weight myself, lol. It has definitely mess with my head. Since I have not been losing weight the past weeks I feel FAT, i'm not seeing the wonderful progress I've made I just see what needs to improve. I know logically that's crazy. I was able to fit into a dress that i've not been able to fit for years and that made me very happy and I have to remind myself of that. We give that scale too much power over us.

Mirena (or other IUD) and VSG
mina replied to favoredone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If someone has had a clot in the past, the mirena IUD can still be use (they don't recommend putting it in someone with an active DVT).. It's progesterone. Estrogen is contraindicated for people with DVT's. The progesterone is mostly local, in the uterus but there is minute amounts in the blood stream. The weight gain is minimal or none. The paraguard (10 yr iud) has no hormone so if hormone is a concern, it's a great choice. It's amazing to me that there are surgeons who requires removal of the IUD before surgery because to me if you get pregnant for whatever reason you will GAIN A WHOLE LOT MORE WEIGHT. Just my opinion, I'm an ob/gyn -
When did you start taking your Vitamins after surgery?
mina replied to Texasmom65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the first couple of weeks I didn't worry about vitamins, I concentrate more on hydration. Once I started on mushies I started doing the flinstone chewables. Now that I'm on regular diet, I will start taking my vitamins. I knew if I was trying to stay on top of the fluid, proteins, vitamins, recovery from surgery, adjusting to new diet and working I would get overwhelmed. So I picked what is most important at each stage. That was just my strategy. -
Some people are just UNBELIEVABLE

Another Gross Question
mina replied to seester3of5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same problem. I had constipation before (i used to go once a week) now I don't go. I have no urge and I feel weird if day #10 creep up without me going, so I would take something to make me go. It's frustrating -
Telling people at work about my surgery
mina replied to GreginMI's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had positive experience with the people at work too. They knew I was going to have surgery at the very beginning and have been supportive. It's family I'm not telling, lol. I kept things off facebook and I told people not to post things on my facebook page. -
I just had my surgery with him june 11 and him and his staff are great. very nice hospital, very modern. They are not too big on pain medications which was not a problem for me (i had gas pain and time is the answer for that). I don't regret my decision. I highly recommend him.

Congrats on the weight lost... that's awesome. How tall are you? I'm 5'5 and a pear shape. My sugeon set a goal that was too low for me... 130 uhm I was 210 pounds when I was 13 yo. I don't think I was ever 130, my body would never let me get that low, I would look ill. The smallest I've been was 170 and I plateau and body wouldn't go down past that. I wearing 8/10 on top and 14 bottoms, My face was really skinny then but I wanted to drop to 10/12 bottoms. This time I plan on doing laser lipo on my hips to make it more proportionate with my top. My weight goal is 155 but I will reevaluate myself once I get to 170.

I knew my parents would never ever accept my decision... It's not part of our culture, So I made the decision to never tell them. I had my surgery 4 weeks ago, I won't see my family till thanksgiving. I told them I was dieting/exercise, which technically not a lie and to expect me to be skinny when I get home It wouldn't be the first time I went home smaller (last time I was 70 pounds less doing calorie count).

I had the same sensation when I started soft foods, my stomach felt weird, and gas was bubbling up. It got better. Now I'm on to regular food and I am not doing to well in turns of large bits and not chewing enough (food hurts going down). I want to burp after I start eating (it's like the burp is in my throat and I can't get it out... eww). I experience the slime experience today, uhm not fun.

How Do You Stop Losing and Maintain?
mina replied to Tandybo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you go on the internet you can look up basal metabolic rate and plug in your information and you can have a rough idea of how much calories you should be taking in a day. that will need to be adjusted base on how active you are.
