    Obstacle Racing Fuel

I have developed a love for obstacle racing ( Spartan Run type races ). I have completed 6 different races from 3-6 miles. Around mile 5 I start to feel my tank start to run dry very fast. I have an eight mile race in 2 months and a 13 mile race in 4 months. Are there any supplements or during race fuel that works well? Im getting close to 2 yrs post op and can eat or drink just about anything. Any tips would be appreciated.

  4. Hi all, I was looking for a little advice on the sleeve effects on relationships. I was sleeved on 4/4/11 and weighed in at 352. Currently I am at 215 and have to work hard at not going lower. I work out and eat right during the week but on the weekends I must splurge on high cals foods to stop my weight from dropping lower. I’ve been doing this for the last few months I tried to stop at 230. This is where it has put a strain on my relationship. My other half says she is proud of my transformation but at the same time hates the fact I have to eat ice cream and etc. to stop from losing weight. It wasn’t bad at first but now she getting upset more and more. She is now becoming super jealous and telling me that I need to go find someone prettier than her. She has been putting on weight lately cause she is really busy at work and cant workout like she used to. I support her in all she does in trying to lose ex.(she wanted to join a coed-softball team, climb hills, hiking, etc.) I have done all of these with her but it doesn’t seem to help. Now she is saying that I’m not the same anymore because I walk with confidence, smile, and speak to people. Whereas I used to walk with my head down, rarely spoke, and had no confidence. I love this lady but I’m at a loss on what I can do to help. My son and her were big reasons why I did the sleeve to improve my health and hopefully lengthen the time I have with them. Any words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated.

    Need Some Advice.

Thanks for the replies. I can work harder at reassuring her and doing more to show it. Also I never try to coach her or say anything about her weight, I don’t think about it cause it doesn’t bother me and she was there through my tough times. I only agree to whatever help she requests from me. ( I hide my sweet treats in different places and eat them when she isn’t near ). The counseling sounds like a really good idea just have to find a way to present it without it coming across the wrong way. Your all making great progress in your journey! Keep up the work and you will surpass your goals. The paradigm shift from trying to lose to trying to keeping it on has been an interesting one.
  6. It’s been 6 months since I've been sleeved. There have been upsand down but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I've lost 123lbs as of this week and have gone from a 4xl to 1x and size 50 pants to a 38. I attached some pictures and my weekly tracking sheet. Here is my progress and how I've done things. The 1st and 2nd month were really tough for me. Getting used to how to eat and the small amount of food i could eat was mentally exhausting. Also starting to do more physical things (gym & golf) I was still sore attimes. I had lots of conversations with God about what the heck did I do tomyself during this time. 3rd month things start getting better. Weight loss is startingto show and I am able to do more at the gym and eat more. I adjusted to mystomach and accepted my food intake. i am able to go out to eat with friends now and not feel too strange. 4th month in full stride now. I was able to intake more and nowhad worked to being able to hit the gym hard 3 -4 times a week. I started inmonth 2 doing 1/2 to 1 mile on elliptical. Now am I am able to run 2 miles ontreadmill and 3 miles on elliptical plus lift weights. I eat what I want when I want and normally until I’m full. I find myself just wanting better foods but if I want something sweet Ieat it. 5th month I already hit what i assumed was my final weight that i wanted to be. Down 100 lbs. i had to make a decision on where to go fromhere. I cut down on cardio so much to about 2 miles per gym trip and added moreweights. I am still eating what i want when i want but added in a lot more carbs. I use the bodybugg to measure my calorie intake and burning rate. For the last 2 months I had an avg intake of 1200-1400 calories a day and burned an avg. of3200 on a no gym day and 4300 on a gym day. 6th month I am still losing and eat carbs for every mealnow. As for rules around eating I don’thave any, for me that works well. I have slowed my loss down to a crawl which iwhat i wanted. I am used to my portions and what my body wants can vary from day to day. Some days I can’t eat much and others I can eat a lot (my new a lot ex. 1 Chicago dog in 30 mins.) I still like sweets and I still allowmyself to eat them. I just do at a much more manageable rate. A pint of Ben andJerry’s will last me 4 sittings now instead of 1. I now avg. around 1500-1700 calories a day intake and burn 2900 no gym day and 3600 gym day.

    Down right discouraged!

I know it’s hard but don’t get too discouraged. I had lots of regrets and talks with God on what did I do to myself for the 1st month or 2. It takes time but it will get better. Just keep trying and you will push through.
  16. Looks like your well on your way to a healthier life. I also stopped comparing myself to others and fell into my own groove. I didn’t drink liquids a lot before surgery so for me getting enough fluids is my biggest challenge. As for rules I don’t have any, for me that works well. I eat what I want when I want and normally until I’m full. I find myself just wanting better foods but if I want something sweet I eat it. Usually about once a week and I’ve been on a gelato kick lately. Exercise I go to the gym 3-4 time a week. I started off only doing ½ mile on elliptical. Now my routine is 5 miles on cardio day and 1.5miles cardio plus weights on lift days. It’s always slow getting back in the groove of things but if you just keep at it, it will pay off. I attached my weight tracking sheet so you can see the progress. It’s a weekly point over the last 4 months. Congrats on your progress and keep up the good work.
  17. My stall lasted 2 1/2 weeks. It was frustrating at times but I just kept doing my routine. I agree with the not pounds but inches as during that time my shorts were getting loose. My stall broke 2 days ago and I've dropped 5.5 pounds since.
