    4 1/2 months and 72 lbs

Thanks everyone I really am glad I went through the surgery. The complications sucked but it's nothing I can't deal with. I still get pain and have to take Nexium twice a day and Zantac once a day but it's nothing I can't handle. Doctors are still hopeful that things will improve even more over the next few months Now I'm just trying to push the exercise to tone up and hit goal

Oh yes, my hair is falling out like crazy! At least I have thick hair so it is not noticable unless you get up close and see the strands of hair that are constantly all over my clothing. Seriously. I cannot even wear white shirts or sweaters anymore but it's way more noticable on those. My hair has changed all together, it used to be very oily, to the point that I HAD to wash my hair daily. I now wash my hair 2 times a week, it's not oily at all. I had to put a strainer thingy in the tub to deal with the hair and it comes out like crazy if I even just run my hands through my hair, forget brushing it or straightening or curling, it comes out worse with those which is why I only style my hair on Sunday's for Church. The rest of the week I usually run a brush through once a day. And I have to put my hair up if I'm cooking because it ends up in the food. But the hair loss is temporary. I would rather lose some hair and be thin and be fat.

Thanks! With the complications, if you would have asked me during that time I did regret the surgery. It was not fun, of course not nearly as bad as some others have had it but I was not a happy camper then. Now though, seeing the difference I am glad I did it. @Weightbgone- I am 5'4 @GreenEyedMomma-Congrats!!

Thanks everyone! I'm kind of surprised by the difference myself. I never thought I would lose so much so quickly and really I never realize it til I actually take a picture and look back at the before shots. Then I am absolutely amazed lol

Thanks everyone! Texas Gal-I don't follow the norm. I have never counted calories, Protein, carbs, any of it. No diet other than eating protein first with my meals, I fill up on the protein and then try to get in some veggies or carbs. I still eat very little but try to eat every few hours. Usually for Snacks I have string cheese or nuts or some veggies. I make sure to get plenty of Water in too. Exercise has not been much. I go for walks with the kids and I have a gazelle that I just started using when I have time too. I do not eat very much at a time even now, 1/4-1/2 cup at a time which is why I try to eat more often. The more calories I get the better the weight comes off. I do not drink Protein Drinks either, those have never sat well with my sleeve.

    How bad is this?

Staying hydrated is the most important thing, take SMALL sips. I have not been able to handle protein drinks at all and I did liquids for a LONG time due to complications and I was fine. The most important thing is to stay hydrated. Ask if you can double your Prilosec or you may need another med. Prilosec did not work for me, I switched to Nexium twice a day and Zantac once a day. Remember you just had major surgery and your stomach is not happy with you and everything is inflamed. IF the pain continues to get worse, see a doctor and change up those meds. There is no reason to suffer through it if it can be an easy fix.

    gas pains

Just keep walking. As annoying as it is to hear, it's the only thing that works.

    Raw veggies?

Ours said to wait til 3 months out. With the exception of tomatoes and cucumbers I did wait till I was told to.
  10. FIrst off, stop stressing. Secondly, it's not that bad. Now I realize I am only 4 months post-op and probably do things differently than most, I do not count calories, I do not count Protein, or carbs or anything. I listen to my body. I make sure to drink tons of Water. I make sure to eat protein first always and everything else after that, which there isn't usually any room for anything else anyways. Worrying all the time won't get you anywhere. You will find as you get to eating foods that you will feel satisfied quickly, which means stop eating. Don't push it til you feel stuffed like we did pre-op. Don't freak over the idea of stretching it. As long as you listen to your body and learn to pay attention to it you will do fine. After awhile you just do it without thinking.
  11. It's normal. Many of us stay exhausted for months afterwards. Our bodies have through something traumatic. Not only the surgery itself but our calorie intake was cut drastically. Your body will adjust over time. I am just now starting to find some energy at 4 months post op, but even then it's not a lot of energy. I am wiped out most days and if I could I would take a nap daily
  12. AMEN! It's a great place to be. I never really got into the whole counting carbs or anything else for that matter but I find myself eating more carbs and not feeling the slightest bit of guilt. The BMI scale drives me crazy! My goal weight still leaves me on the overweight part of the scale but ya know what?! I don't freaking care! I get comments all the time of people asking how in the world I expect to lose more, like you I weigh more than people expect. I still wear a 12-14 in the bottoms but no one believes me lol. It's such a great feeling to be ok with where we are

    Avoiding Protein Shakes

Ever since I was able to eat again string cheese has been my best friend I cannot drink the protein drinks, even the unflavored mixed into things made me feel ill so I stopped trying and just worked on protein where I could. Beans are also a great thing to eat. I love refried beans with some cheese and sour cream on it YUM!

    Dizziness help

I was told Poweraid too but cannot stand the Zero so I go with the regular. Even at 4 months out I still get dizzy when I get up too, whether I jump up fast or slow.
  15. Good grief, I finally got around to taking my measurements which I have not done since 1 month post op. Now here I am at 4 months post op and down 63 3/4 inches. So as I was showing my husband the numbers it dawns on me that I have lost my height. Oh. My. Goodness. And I am not even to goal. Part of me is seriously embarrassed that I could lose my height in inches off my body but the other part of me says BOOYAH! And this last week I went to my grandparents wedding and fit a size 12 dress and a medium shrug. I cannot even tell you the last time I fit in either one of those sizes. So many NSVs now which I do believe I love more than watching the scale move. So many people in the past weeks that I have not seen since before surgery and well their reactions were kind of cool yet embarrassing at the same time. One lady even went up to my husband and told him how good I looked lol. Now it's time to bust my butt and lose those last 22 lbs, I won a free outdoor photo shoot for the family and I desperately want to be at goal and feeling comfortable in my own skin before the shoot
  16. THanks everyone~ Raine-I probably go a little overboard with my measurements as I like to see what the numbers are in all the major areas. And I find differences in what I have lost between each leg and arm. I measure my head, neck, left arm, right arm, bust, under bust, waist, stomach, hips, left thigh, right thigh, left calf and right calf. Hope that helps
  17. Hey! Sorry to hear about the stall. What a pain in the butt those are! But look at how close to goal you are. My weight has slowed as well, some weeks it stays the same then I will have a good loss the next week. 22 lbs from goal for me :) My pain is still there but not as bad so I'm so grateful for that.

    bikini/two piece

You could not pay me enough to wear a bikini, even when I was super skinny and a teenager I would not be caught dead in one lol. Now I do wear a tankini. The bottoms are a skirt, I feel it covers up more

    weird taste in mouth, dizzyness

Hmm very odd. Sorry I have no idea. the only time I had an issue with taste was after I had a PICC line, for a good month afterwards I had this constant salty taste in my mouth, creeped me out since I don't like salt lol. I would say if it continues to get a second opinion.

    ugh period after surgery

Seems to be quite common. Mine was getting pretty far apart before surgery, afterwards it really went crazy for the first two cycles now I am back to a normal cycle. The worst was when it hit while I was hospitalized with complications, boy was I made at my body lol

    CPAP Issues

Ohhh! I wonder if that is my problem! I keep meaning to schedule an appt with my RT and just haven't gotten around to it. I went from not having issues to waking up with a super dry mouth and throat every day now. Dh says it sounds like I am breathing really heavy almost enough to sound like I am snoring again with the mask on. Hmmm, guess I better get on the ball and make that phone call tomorrow.

    Welcome new Members!!!

Hi guys! Super excited I can join this group Starting weight before my 2 week liquid diet was 240, surgery day weight was 228 and now at 175 I am 5'4 and surgery was 3 1/2 months ago. My goal is 150, it still leaves me in the "overweight" category of the BMI scale but I can't stand that stupid thing anyways lol. With my structure I looked best at 150, hopefully after 4 kids that weight will still look good on me haha. Started out wearing a very tight size 20 and 1x top and now wearing a 12-14 on the bottoms and wearing medium to large on top. So odd to shop in normal sized clothes now. When it comes down to it I am not so much worried about the scale numbers, I just want to get down to a size 8. Not sure my body will allow for it but we shall see.
  23. I was 3 months out before I tried it. When I did, I bought thin crust. My new family favorite though it making zucchini crust http://blog.yourlighterside.com/2009/05/zucchini-pizza-crust-recipe.html Sounds weird but it was really good, just like eating cheese haha.
