The kind of sleeve and staples used
swizzly replied to dallasmom's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I have surgical steel staples. Kind of freaked me out pre-op, but it's the way they do things here...and apparently there are people running around with steel staples in them all over this country (and other areas of the continent). The kind of sleeve I have -- no clue. It's a wee restrictive one, lol. Works just dandy so far. Alas, c'est la vie. I take the good with the questionable. ETA: Oopsie, I didn't read the instructions properly LOL...I didn't have surgery in Mexico. Sorry! -
Nerve problems in legs and wrists?
swizzly replied to ahoy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't recall any tingly bits, but I did have odd pains (some of them pretty bad) from weight loss and weight shifting. My GD sciatica flared BAD about a week post-op for no apparent reason...then went away again a couple weeks after that. -
TMI TIme: How is TOM going?
swizzly replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not to be glib about your delicate condition lol...but I have read about this happening all the time to people after WLS. All that estrogen running rampant in your body, well, it just has its way with you. I wouldn't be overly concerned, personally (well, *I* would, given that I had a hysterectomy four years ago lol), unless you're also having other problems besides just overspending in the girlie aisle at the grocery store. Are you feeling faint or dizzy or anything? -
You look so great!!
-
Agree with Coops -- your arms look fab!! SOOOO envious. You look great and so happy -- glad to hear you had such a rockin time!!

I had very little post-op pain, and zero gas pain at all. I had a sore belly for a day or so, and was quite nauseated the first 2-3 days, but I wasn't really even miserable at all. Never had buyer's remorse for even a minute. I've had open surgery before, and that was much harder a recovery.
-
Just remind yourself that the pain and sadness is VERY temporary -- you'll be perky and up and about in no time. Really! Good luck to you.

OMG..SLAP MY TUSH & CALL ME BISQUIT!
swizzly replied to Starry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Huh. The heading made me LOL when I read it the first time...I just didn't have anything to post in response. So now I'm posting to say your thread title was a giggler for me. Also, congrats on breaking the stall. -
SWEATING all the time.....
swizzly replied to becca2297's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't get cold all the time, though I do get chilled easier than pre-op. I still get hot and sweat a bit, but nothing like before I had the surgery. Trying on clothes used to make me sweat like a mad woman, now I can do it without feeling like I will drop dead of heat. I tend to sweat more from the neck up than anywhere else on my body (niiiiice), so I am glad to not be a red, dripping-faced, dripping-haired nutter anymore! That all said, our summer is not so hot thus far. -
I find sometimes the vitamins make me a little sick, too. If you are having severe nausea, lay off the vitamins for a few days until you are feeling better. Most important is getting enough water in, then protein, then supplements -- so it's fine to not have them for a bit until your stomach can calm down a bit. Good luck!

If there's one thing you think pre-surgery members should know...
swizzly replied to NewPath4Me's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This is always good advice. Even though I'm not allowed to cut out carbs entirely, I do quite restrict them and make sure they are 'good' ones, not junk ones. I find that protein first is the best way to ensure I don't have room enough for other bad stuff. Also, really: DO drink a lot of liquids. So easy to fall behind on this one. -
{{{Hugs}}} I know that goals are important...and yet, see how far you've come. You look so beautiful, I hope you don't discount that. Even if you never lose another ounce (though I'm sure you will), you are already a success. I hope you can enjoy that feeling too?

Day 76: Crikey I was Fat.
swizzly replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Could not agree more. I am also being pretty cognizant of being in that place in the past, more than once and for long periods of my life. I refuse to spend another day there. Thanks for the reminder, I need them. Nice to 'see' you again. -
You look beautiful!! That dress is such a great color on you, too. Congrats on the success!!

Clothing Memories and Question??
swizzly replied to sunnyd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I definitely know what you mean. I spent (/wasted) years thinking I wasn't good enough, was too fat, etc. I look back now (at photos and just via memories) and see how I didn't appreciate reality and was constantly thinking I'd be better at some future time. I make a conscious effort now to enjoy what I have right now, not when I hit goal, not any other future point -- because I guarantee if I look back at photos of me from 2011, 10 years from now, I'll think how great I looked. So why not think I look great RIGHT NOW?? Thanks for another reminder. -

i cannot stand the sound of someone eating!
swizzly replied to heylinda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL...this is the one thing that really intensified post-op for me. I have always hated the sound of people chewing or smacking on their food. UGH. But after surgery, I drove my poor husband crazy by always shooting him a dirty look while he was trying to eat in peace. Good news is, the hyper-annoyance of it has receded again. -

Great job, looking very good!! -
My preferred thing to do in situations like this, is to be kind and cordial. Smile, be friendly but reserved, remember that you have a secret that he doesn't know. The most overt thing I'd do is to say something in the language he used, just a little something -- nothing to do with fat or cows, just so he knows you know the language. He might remember and be embarrassed for what he said, he might not. But either way, you've taken the high road and possibly gotten your message out without malice or returning name-calling back at him. It's just a personal preference though. (FWIW, I think letting it go and forgiving him is all about you and nothing to do with him, it's to free you up to sleep well and let go of a painful past experience. So think about just forgiving and forgetting.) I'm sorry he treated you like that; of course you didn't deserve it. {{{Hugs}}}

Talk me off the ledge- weight loss crawling
swizzly replied to meggiep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm always convinced I'm losing more slowly than everyone else too. Then I remember, DUDE YOU WANTED TO LOSE SLOWLY. I really do...er, did. LOL. This surgery is such a total mindf**k I can't believe it. I am not an emotional person really, I mean I'm no robot, but I'm not a cryer very often etc. I swore I wouldn't be on the scales every day...well, I am. I swore I wouldn't get all hysterical about my weight...I do (sometimes). I finally just gave up and gave in. I DO weigh every day, I DON'T let it get to me anymore. My weight stalls all the damn time, and I also randomly gain a kilo here and there before finally losing it again. I have lost ~42 lb in 3.5 months and I always see people who've lost like 35 lb in just the first month. ENVY, I have to deal with that damn green monster lol. Oh well, slow, not slow, wtf-ever, I'm just me. ALSO, I have come to look forward (really) to the times when I'm not losing, because even though I have no measurements, it is during the stalls when I actually get smaller -- and then I know I can move to my smaller clothes. Hang in there, baby! -

5 days post and i'm starving!
swizzly replied to heylinda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been post-op for three months and two weeks. And I've been hungry for...three months and two weeks. Not acid, not head hunger (actually don't get that one too often thank god), but just plain old hunger. Dammit. I keep hoping it will go away, but so far no go. It seems to be much easier to deal with over time, and I do have three meals and three Snacks a day, so I'm not overly hungry all the time or anything. But I am definitely not one of those who lost their hunger. Maybe it will still fade over time? I hope so. But I can still be hungry and be successful with the sleeve, as it prevents me eating too much. I have thought about this a lot, and I'm thinking that, because I had fairly 'normal' hunger levels pre-op (I was not hungry all the time or anything), I didn't get a big, noticeable feeling of 'relief' from hunger post-op b/c I still have pretty 'normal' hunger levels.
