  1. I posted this just now on another thread with a similar topic... I only told a few close friends and family -- but that said, I don't tell personal information of any kind about myself, for the most part -- mostly for career reasons and a small town. I absolutely couldn't care less what people think and they can gossip behind my back all they want. What others think of me is none of my business. I just don't care to discuss it with them. And I also couldn't care less about 'taking the easy way out' -- so the eff what?? How many areas in life do we deliberately do something 'the hard way'?? Makes ZERO sense, and is anyhow based on this very judgey perspective that fat people have sinned against aesthetics (mostly fat women) and deserve to be punished and work very hard to gain back the right to be counted amongst the human beings again. Yeah, no thanks LOL. And finally, maybe talking about it is awesome and reduces stigma and all that, but it's not my responsibility to change what anyone thinks, especially if they're being judgey and negative. That's on them and I'm not fussed at all about it. They're welcome to their opinion and they're even welcome to share it with me, but I don't have to care about it and I for sure don't have to try and convince them otherwise. Which is anyhow notoriously ineffective... (I should add, this has completely 150% been the 'easy way out' for me, and I couldn't be happier about that. I deserve it and I'm so happy about just how easy and effective it's been.)

  3. Hmm, never heard of anyone being cancelled for a UTI before, so I'm thinking probably not. But the catheter can make you get a UTI anyhow, post-op. And in most places, they will also have you on antibiotics post-op as well, which would also likely address the UTI if it was still going. If you don't have any UTI symptoms, it might not be a really bad one?

    Salad?

I was cleared for salad at four weeks post-op and promptly started eating them like crazy, and have done ever since. Love salad! You just have to chew well and eat slowly, and pick more tender lettuces rather than like arugula and similar. I ate a lot of mache lettuce, which dissolves super easy -- I just cut off the little stem-y root-y bits from it. YUM.

    **help**

1.5 HOURS?? Dude, that's crazy. I stop drinking 10-15 mins before eating, and start again 20-30 mins after. Never had a problem with this, and it's all my program requires. If I'm quite full, I wait the full 30 mins, but if you are waiting 1.5 hours, you will never get in enough liquids in the day. JMO

    Snacking Tips

Quest protein bars are my true love LOL. And jerky and little cheeses like Babybels are also awesome.

    How Bad Was It?

I was, I think, quite lucky in this respect. I was in hospital for six days and off work for five weeks, but that's just cos that is how they do things here -- I didn't have any complications or problems apart from some dry-heaving the first day or two. I had very little pain, managed only with paracetamol even in hospital. Had zero gas pain whatsoever, which I was SOOO glad about, as I know that's the worst thing for many people. By the time they discharged me on day six, I was dying to get home and feeling like a prison break was needed! LOL But yeah, I think two days' recovery is probably never going to be enough of a time off -- even if you have a totally smooth process like I did. I still needed way more sleep and rest than usual and was glad I had the time to completely recover.

    Nsaids

This is exactly true and one of the most factually accurate answers I've seen on this topic, thanks! NSAIDS being okay was another one of the reasons I chose the sleeve; I had to take them (800mg at that) already two weeks post-op and it was approved by my surgeon and my bariatric specialist physician both, just had to double-up on the Protonix while I was taking them. Now I use ibuprofen 2-5 times per week (400mg) and that is also on my record at the clinic and approved by them.
  11. I had an accident like that pre-surgery, with all the soft tissue injuries in the abdomen. Even with a normal stomach I felt sick and had a hard time eating for a little while, so I would say it's just a matter of time and taking it very easy. Glad you didn't get worse injuries, hope you feel better quickly!
  12. Um, what?? Defying him? You're his spouse, not his child...?! THAT is not a good sign. I hope you can follow your own conscience and needs.
  13. There is nothing non-credible about not sharing personal information with people who have zero need to know -- it's certainly not lying to choose not to volunteer personal information with people outside your close friends and family. I am not ashamed of my decision (or salary, or sex life, etc...), but I will never be talking about these things in a professional setting. I think it's often a bad idea to do so, actually. That said, I would ignore those nurses -- you (the OP) are reacting to them cos of your own situation, which as you've said is not out in the open. So I would just let it go, unless you see their actual patient treatment being compromised in some way.
  14. Stalls are normal, don't panic!! It will work, just breathe and relax and eat clean!! Seriously, IT WORKS. A stall is not the end...! :-)

    I Find It Odd

My diet sort of freaks people out, but it's just the way they roll at my clinic...so... I had no pre-op diet at all, was just told not to suddenly eat a lot nor to suddenly eat way less -- just to stay normal. After surgery, I wasn't allowed anything till the leak test, then I had to drink water as much as possible. And I got liquids/mushies the first two days, and was back on normal food from day four or five (was still in hospital...no problems, but that's also how they roll LOL). I had mash and veal (soft bits) in gravy plus very well-cooked broccoli as the first food on day five. They move you to 'real food' as quickly as possible here because they think it's better for your entire digestive system, your intestines don't get lazy or something LOL. I don't know, it worked out just fine for me -- I've never had a single problem eating anything. I was just told to chew everything super well and eat what I could tolerate, including food from all food groups. I couldn't eat raw fruit/veg/salad till four weeks post-op, but apart from that, anything was okay as long as I could tolerate it. *shrug* It's a top clinic and the doctors/surgeons have authored studies, particularly about the sleeve...it's just a very different approach to the US. (I've also never used protein shakes, they're not called for here.)

Does Anyone Else Eat As Much As Me?

I've always eaten a lot compared to many fellow sleevers -- but I've still lost just fine and am now keeping it off fairly easily as well. That said, I try to keep carbs to a minimum, and that helps. But yeah, I was at 1000 cals per day already at 6 weeks post-op, and am now often around 2000.

    Twisted Stomach?

I don't know about a twist per se, but my friend had a sort of kink in hers so it was kind of folded up. The treatment was just to wait it out and it did unwind itself again, but it caused pain and eating problems while it lasted. Good luck!!

    Antidepressants & Weight Gain

    I had to take a tricyclic antidepressant against pain, not depression, a number of years ago. I gained ***55 POUNDS*** in six months. The doctor claimed it was just my fault. Riiiigghhht. Anyhow, I would avoid those if possible, which shouldn't be an issue cos they're not used for depression all that much anymore -- they're called Nortriptyline, Amitriptyline, etc. I've heard people having problems with both Paxil and Zoloft as well. Wellbutrin is known as one that does NOT cause weight gain. Good luck and I really hope you feel better!! {{{Hugs}}}
  19. Thanks, GrannyK. Though I don't think it's distorted at all -- by just about any reasonable measure, God clearly cares far more about me than about the starving children.
  20. This. Exactly this. For the same reasons you list.
  21. I had roughly 100 lb to lose and have lost about 95 of it, so 95% But the LS calculator linked above puts me at 42% excess weight lost. ?
  22. No one has said this to me, but I almost wish they would cos I would LOOOOVE to ask someone right to their face, "Leaving aside whether this is actually easy or not, which by the way you have zero knowledge about -- why should I not have taken the easy way out?" I'd love to deconstruct any explanations they could come up with for WHY I DON'T DESERVE TO TAKE GOOD AND EFFECTIVE CARE OF MY BODY. Cos I can tell you, the 'rationale' against the 'easy way out' is full of judgment about fat people deserving to be fat and thus having to be punished by working like dogs to get the weight off. They should SUFFER cos they have committed the sin of being fat. LOL. Riiiiigghht. I'm SO never going to believe a word of that. Bring it on, haters -- I will uncover your judgey ways and leave you with nary a rhetorical leg to stand on, and nowhere to hide your prejudiced ways. I'm good at arguing on the spot, though.
  23. Mine's often tighter in the evening, for some reason.
