  1. Might not work for ANYONE but me -- but...I follow primal eating about 80%. I definitely do not eat ANY grains or legumes (except peanut butter LOL). I also don't eat carbs in general...except for chocolate and wine. So yeah -- I do an 80/20 approach with mostly primal (which I love) + some little things that keep me feeling like I'm not being deprived. Giving up wheat is 95% of it, cos everything yummy and bad for you has wheat in it. LOL.
  2. The primal eating plan I (mostly) follow includes fasting whenever you want. I like that -- I am not a breakfast girl and now feel free to skip it when I want to. Same with sometimes just skipping a meal or two. Feels good to do now and then, like giving my body a break.
  3. Welcome Bookleen! Do you do low carb? That plus higher cals is what I swear by. I'm not really still trying to lose anymore, I'm a normal bmi anyhow, was just looking for a few more kg to go, which they have. Then they come back. Then they go. Then come back etc. I'm not eating poorly or anything, I just think I have a fairly wide range for 'normal' lol. My same clothes fit all the time so... Coops, omg you are in the 150s!!!!?! That is awesome!! Even with the swelling and Fluid still in there? You are bound to lose a few more when that goes...so cool!! Can't wait to see pics. How do you like the girls now?? :-) Eta: I should have said, not just low carb, I also do primal eating as coops mentioned. For me it's quite easy and super effective.
  4. Oh yay! Glad you're home and doing well, if sore. Can't wait to hear how it went and how you feel after. :-)
  5. OMG coops!!! So soon! I'm so excited for you -- can't wait to hear how it goes. Wishing you a great op and quick recovery! You're gonna be too sexy for us soon.
  6. I've been around the WLS/sleeve boards for more than three years now -- and I've literally NEVER heard of anyone having problems with the internal staples. Incidentally, mine are surgical steel not titanium, and I'm the only one I've ever heard of that didn't have titanium. Alas, all has been rosy so I'm not fussed.
  7. Do you mean staples holding your incisions shut, or the staples they use on your actual stomach? I have never heard of any problem with the latter, ever (apart from leak issues, but those are not reactions to staples, just leaks). I had a few problems with my incision staples cos they kind of grew to my skin really quickly and were painful to remove, but no real problems per se. I know quite a few people who have issues with the 'self-dissolving' sutures they sometimes use for surgery, but I'm not sure any of that is needed for lap sleeve surgery...?
  8. There are many fair (and a few ridiculous) points in this thread. The thing is, everyone's body is different and there is NO WAY one set of hard-and-fast rules will work for anyone. Not even any good general guidelines really. I never lost my appetite, have never had a problem to eat ANYTHING. Of course, I choose to eat well, but if I want to I can eat any old thing. I am not put off by food, could eat pretty good quantities from one month post-op, etc. I recently was told by my clinic I was 'the perfect patient', but many people would be freaked out by my plan and the way I've done things. There is more than one path to success -- and one of the keys to success is to find the one that works for YOU and then believe in yourself and follow it, and not be swayed by other people's dogma. Good luck, everyone!
  9. Thanks! I've never been the 'perfect' ANYTHING, so it was a nice moment. LOL. I'm definitely NOT perfect in any way, so I had to laugh to myself... Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere -- I do still want to lose 3-5 more kg. Ms S - sorry to hear you have to have your GB out!
  10. Had my two-year post-op appointment today, and apparently I'm "their perfect patient" (LOL). I've lost more than 90% of excess weight (I'm still aiming for 100% but she swears that is nearly impossible), including >22kg of pure fat (as opposed to water/lean mass, which makes up the rest)...and am in healthy BMI, have perfect blood levels of everything, even have better-than-average bone density (had dexa scan also). So yay! I am happy to have shared the journey thus far with all you lovely people. Want to add, they tend to exaggerate a bit (eg, 'perfect patient') when they are talking to Americans, cos they think Americans exaggerate everything -- so we won't think we're awesome if they just say, 'well done' in a low-key way. And here's to another 3-5 kg...I still want it...
  11. I'm kinda giggling, not cos I don't feel your pain (I DO!!), but cos it's so damn true. My husband has lost like 8-9 kg now (I stopped asking ) just from stopping eating gluten, not even all grains like I do. Damn men. Hmph. I got to my lowest weight, then bounced right back up to normal 70 kg range. Sigh. But I do feel better from eating primal, so I stick with it. Nearly five months now. Keep up the good work, coops -- see where things go. Breathe deeply and all that.

    Peanut Butter

I love peanut butter, I eat it a lot. I do have PB2, but the regular stuff is my fave. I love fat, I eat a lot of it!
  14. Glad you have enjoyed it -- I do love that site! It has changed my life for the better. But like your husband, coops, it has REALLY benefited my husband as well. He's had far fewer migraines and has told me that he *feels* really well, and like a fog has lifted, he's clearly much happier overall. I find it utterly amazing. I haven't noticed this effect very much, so I'm guessing the gluten was impacting him much more than it does me. I'm just happy to avoid the calories I don't need... Super proud of you for getting down to low weight again -- I bet you'll see that number continue to fall, but even if you don't, you will def look smaller...hence the 'tiny'-ness. Go you!!!

    American in Paris

I stay in the 15th when I'm there -- and I was just trying to convince a friend in London that we need to meet in Paris for the weekend again soon. So whenever that happens, I will let you know.

I'm still just nextdoor in case you decide to meet up in Paris -- let me know.

    I'll show you mine... (LBD's)

Hi -- your surgery will be almost exactly two years after mine was, here's to success! I'm also just over 5'6 and I weigh now just under 150-ish (about 68kg), which for me is a good weight to be at. I'm in normal BMI and wear size 6-8. There is not a ton of fat left on me for sure! And not to be a cliche, but I'm pretty large-boned, so I think to get much lower would be difficult and pointless. Just my .02. Best of luck!
  18. Coops -- keep hope alive!! I think you can outlast anything, be stubborn!!! ETA: My damn husband has lost over 7 kg from eating clean too.
  19. Coops -- glad to hear it's going well! I am still hungry on a regular basis, but always have been, so I'm not fussed about it really. But I really haven't eaten grains or bread of any kind for at least two months, I can't even remember when I gave it up. I do eat a lot of nuts (and calories LOL) though. My husband also lost like 6kg from this way of eating, which is a lot for him -- and his migraines stopped and his psoriasis cleared up. Trippy. I never would've guessed it would make such a big difference... Good luck -- I hope it continues to make a difference! I should track my calories, but I'm a little scared, I'm sure it's at least 2000...! But I've lost, not gained, so I am not going to mess with anything yet...

    5 Confessions (Join In)

I confess that posts about stalls and how to "break" them anyhow make me sorta LOL. A stall is a stall and bodies need them, need a pause and a break...no sense trying to bash one's head against the wall about them. Cos the truth is, if you just keep doing what you're doing, the stall eventually goes away of its own accord, and I'm not convinced any of the tips for 'breaking' them are doing any good, or are anything other than coincidences from when they'd have stopped anyhow.
  21. FYE - that is interesting! Thanks for the linky. I've been eating a lot more calories than most here, all along. My BMR was 1890 before surgery, my doctor reckons it's about 250 less than that now. But with my activity level, I'm burning about 2200 per day (without the gym specifically factored in), so I eat 1800-2000-ish most of the time. And I still lose a bit from time to time on that, so I reckon if I dropped to 1500 per day, I'd lose more -- not sure I want to though. I know people always say calories in/calories out, but that has not always been the case for me. Some calories seem to be 'worse' for me than others, so if I don't eat any wheat/grains, I lose much easier overall even when I eat loads of fat and meat (and veg of course . So, I find this topic fascinating.
  22. Thanks, I'm doing pretty good. I've been off wheat entirely for at least two months now -- and I am not even attempting to give up dairy, I love it and eat loooooads of it. I also still eat too much sugar. But just giving up grains has been great, I've lost about 2kg from that, and my husband has lost 6kg from it! He also has a few autoimmune issues and migraines, both of which have gotten SOOOO much better since he gave up wheat. It's a weird thing, I never would have guessed it would have such an impact. Yes, I also dislike clubs, points, calorie counting -- all of that. I am too easily obsessed by that sort of thing, so much better for me to stay out of it in the first place.
  23. Hey coops -- good luck!! I know that there is a period of serious adjustment to that style of eating, so wait a couple of weeks and see how it goes. Might not be your cup of tea in the end, but it's worth a go I think. The constipation should also be temporary -- cutting DOWN on Fiber helps me a lot with this one (sounds odd, I know -- read Fiber Menace for a wacky but somewhat convincing take on it...). I'm guessing you're just retaining Water right now, but keep me posted, I'm cheering for you!! https://www.marksdailyapple.com/what-does-it-mean-to-be-fat-adapted/ -- also a good read, along with the entire "Success Stories" section.
