    pissed and confused

Hi, I know it is frustrating but hang in there. I have Aetna and had a choice to do the 3 month or 6 month. I chose the 3 month and they would not submit to my insurance until I finished with the program. They submitted it and I was approved in about 4 days. I had to call Aetna and they told me I was approved even before the Dr. found out. Unfortunately I had to postpone until December 21st because I was offered a teaching job that started 45 days before by planned band date of 8/24. It will all fall in place. My dietician did not set any weight loss goals just gave some literature on what foods are good foods. I only lost 5 pounds but they were ok with that because I quit smoking and my weight is 208 pounds. Good luck with everything and stop stressing it will all be ok.

    December Bandsters!

My surgery is Dec 21st and I can imagine how those getting banded the beginning of Dec are feeling. I am already counting down the days. My preop diet is an Atkins type diet so I am lucky in that aspect. I am so nervous yet so excited. I have never been under anethesia before and I keep having these thoughts of "what if I don't wake up" I guess this is normal. I was supposed to get banded on 8/24 but had to postpone 5 days before because I got a new teaching job so its like preparing mentally all over over again. It's nice to hear from people in the same boat. It makes this journey a little bit easier.

    I failed :(

My Dr. only requires an Atkins type diet for two weeks before. I have trouble getting the protein shakes down so I was exstatic. I can eat my protein in lean meats and have to cut out the carbs and fats to a bare minimum. I have friends that had to do the liqued diet and others that have had no diet. Each Dr. is different. Don't fret just get back on track and you will be fine. Best of luck!

    December Bandsters!

Good luck, it sounds like you have had a long journey. I only had to do 3 months and that was tough, however my surgery got pushed to December 21st because I got a job 4 days before I was going to have surgery. It will all be worth it in the end. I will say a prayer that everything goes through with no problem for you.
  7. Hey Teresa I bet your getting nervous. I'm nervous an mine is not until December 21st and I'm nervous already. It's nice to be in touch with people in the same boat!

    Nicotine Test?

I had two have two blow tests under a 3. They made me blow into a machine that measures the carbon dioxide in your lungs. I believe it goes up to 10 but because of second hand smoke most people have a litte in their lungs. I had quit for 4 weeks and I blew a 1. My docter wants you to quit 2 months prior because he thinks if your going to start your new healthier life you need to be totally comitted, I can see where he is coming from but it isn't always so easy. Good luck.

    December Bandsters!

Glad to hear from others in the same boat. It was bittersweet having to reschedule for Decemeber but it will be here before we know it. Someone mentioned they are worried about those who post they have little or no restriction. I have also heard from people who have lost @100 with no fills. For every bad story there are good. I have a deap seated fear of puking so I think the first time I over east and get sick I will be very conscious about what I put in my mouth. Due to this fear I am afraid I will not want to eat because I'll be scared. Thanks for everyone sharing, it helps a lot to hear from others in the same boat.

    December Bandsters!

It is great to hear from so many December Bandsters. I am very excited but a bit nervous too. My docter only requires you to go on the Atkins diet which is good because a liqued diet scared me. My surgery is December 21st. I am getting sick of people telling me I am not fat enough. I am 208 pounds and only 5'3 I am having the surgery because I have diabetes and have tried by myself to loose the weight for years and years. Anyone else having the same issue?

    Aetna approval

I have Aetna *** I started my appointments in June and paperwork was sent August 1 and I was approved by August 6. I had to postpone due to a new job and reschedule for Christmas break Decemeber 21st. It has to be resubmitted in November for approval but I have no worries, Aetna has been great.
  12. I was approved in 4 days with Aetna *** but on an out patient basis which means I can only stay 23 hours unless there are complications. I have a BMI of 36 but I have diabetes. Hope this helps.

  13. I was so worried about the pre op diet I was delighted when my doc said just do an Atkins type of diet for 2 weeks before. My BMI is also 35.7 and my surgery was set for 8/24 but had to reschedule for Christmas Break because I got an offer for a teaching position. Good luck! Dieting before supposedly shrinks the liver and makes it easier for the surgeon, however every surgeon is different so consider yoursel one of the lucky ones.
  14. I am stressing because I just go my two year weight history. My BMI in 2009 was only 34.5. I am now diabetic (about 1 year) and BMI of 36.7 but Aetna is pretty picky about their requirements. I have quit smoking and I am comitted to this process but I won't know if I am approved until I finish the program at the end of July. I am scared I am going through all this and will get denied by Aetna.
  15. What a wonderful post. I had to reschedule my August banding for December which gives me lots of time to read the posts and worry and doubt. When I read your post I new I was doing the right thing. I am scared and worried that I won't chew enough or I'll eat to much or be starving, but your post put me at ease a bit. Thank you for sharing your story!
  16. Hi Alex, I was supposed to have surgery the same day as you by Dr. Boorse and had to reschedule until Christmas because I obtained a teaching position the Friday before surgery. How did it go? Was the pain bad afterwards?

  17. My banding was scheduled for 8/24 however as an unemployed teacher I was offered a job the Friday before my surgery and was forced to put it off until Thanksgiving. i am using Dr. Boorse at Lehigh Valley Hospital and his scheduling person is awfull. I had to call her five time to get her to cancel my surgery and when I tried to schedule it for the day before Thanksgiving she told me she would put it in pending because she doesnt get the surgeons schedule this far in advance. I feel like this lady has my life in her hands and whenever I try to call for questions or concerns she makes me feel like I am bothering her. I am tempted to find a different surgon however I have been approved by Aetna and fear if I change surgeons I will have to get approved all over again. i was so ready for my surgery but I could not turn down a job because I have 3 kids to support. Any advice?
  18. My BMI is 36 and I did a 3 month program. I did not loose much weight maybe 5 pounds. I have Type 2 Diabetes. My Dr. Submitted to Aetna on August 1st and I was approved by August 5. Good luck!
  19. I know how you are feeling. I have something called SVT or Sudden Ventricular tacnicardia where my heart rate goes up and beats irregular when I am under stress or too much anxiety. I am a little nervous about getting put under anethesia due to this condition. However, I have been reassured by the Dr's that your heart rate is under contant monitoring before during and after the surgury and they have cardiologist in the hospital that can be called if there is any issues. I think you will be fine. Good luck.
  20. I can't believe it is only 10 more days until my banding. I have waited so long and had totally committed to the journey. I quit smoking back in June and went to all my appointments and did everything I was supposed to. Now I am nervous reading all the posts on after pain. i am a big baby and I burned my arm tonight while cooking and groaned about the pain for over an hour. I am also pertrified to be put under anesthesia with the tube down my throat and all. I keep thinking what if I don't wake up, what if something goes wrong. I hope this is normal pre thoughts because I have come to far to ruin it all. My youngest who is 11 is very unhappy that I am going to do this and that doesn't really help but I no she loves me and is just scared.
  21. Thanks for sharing. I am glad your banding went well. i think I will be nervous until it is over. I will pray for a speedy recovery for you.
  22. Thank you all for your support. Having people to talk to that have gone through it or will be going through it helps so much. Good luck tomorrow Kristenaz I will be thinking about you.
  23. I pushed for the 17th but they wouldn't budge. I am going for a new teaching job that may start on the 24th if I get it I will have to move my surgery to Christmas Break. That would suck I am very frustrated over everything. Good luck!

  24. My surgery is August 24th and my docter does not require a liqued diet thank god but does suggest an atkins diet for two weeks. He told me that staying away from carbs for two weeks shrinks your liver and fat and makes it easier for the surgeon to get to your stomach. I am diabetic so I am adding a little carbs in the form of fruit so my sugar doesnt get to low. Good luck!
