What To Eat In The First 2 Weeks after Lap Band Surgery!
sherrypep replied to Abbiewtvr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am making a protein shake with vanilla whey protein by Body Fortrass 52 grams of protein per scoop. I am using ice, lowfat milk, the scoop of protein and a squirt of light or surgar free chocolate syrup. This makes it so I can at least get it down. I have tried every protein powder and drink there is and they are all gross, but this kinda tastes like a chocolate milkshake. -
Is It Normal Not To Have A Bm For The First Week After Lap Band Surgery?
sherrypep posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on day 6 of my band and have not had a bowel movement. i know its not the best topic but I was just wondering if anyone else had the same issue. I feel great and have had an easy time of things except a little depression watching everyone around me eat all my favorite foods. I see the Dr. for my post op on Thursday, but just wondering if I should take something. My husband said since I am not eating anything solid than there is nothing to come out, but I wonder. Thanks for any suggestions. -

sherrypep replied to jsi69i's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Post Lap Band Surgery 6 Days
sherrypep replied to thinspiration's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are not alone, I was banded on 12/21 and have many of the same feelings. Everyone around me is eating and eating and sometimes it gets rough. I even started to cry in the car yesterday telling my hubby he didnt understand and that I wanted food. It will pass. Everytime I want food I just think of the future and how healthy and fit I will be from all this. Keep your chin up! -

48 Hours Post Lap Band Surgery And I Feel Like I'm Going To Starve To Death
sherrypep replied to Fork-in-the-Road's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to say I was banded on 12/21 and for the most part everything has gone great. Very little pain, little hunger. However today on Day 5 I am having a really hard time. I actually cried over not being able to eat as i watched my family eat all their favorite foods around me. I have been drinking, and having problems with protein shakes because they taste bad. So basically by days have been broth, water, broth, juice, and an occaisional protein shake if I can get it down. I actually felt really depresses today and with no regrets thus far I fell a bit apart. I feel better now. I had my broth for dinner and took a short walk. This too shall pass... This is my mantra. -
48 Hours Post Lap Band Surgery And I Feel Like I'm Going To Starve To Death
sherrypep replied to Fork-in-the-Road's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on Wed and have been doing the broth, water, juice, and ice pops. I am not hungry but sometimes my mind wants food as I watch my hubby and three kids eat and eat and eat. I had it pretty easy so I consider myself very lucky I feel pretty good just a little gassy. Hang in there it can only get better from here! -
Oh my god, I can't believe it's here! I just got the call. I have to at the hospital 6:30 a.m. Since I live an hour away it will be an early morning. I am sooooooo nervous but very ready. Surgery was origanally 8/24 and had to be postponed until tomorrow. My Dr. makes you stay over night. Tomorrow starts the first day of the new me..

Lap Band Surgery In The Morning!
sherrypep replied to sherrypep's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I am finally home. I had to stay 2 days because I couldn't pee and my blood pressure was very low. I feel pretty good minor gass and little pain. Taking gass x strips and walking. Eating broth and juice and water but not very hungry at all. After reading some of the posts about pain I was surprised at how easy it has been. The worse part was the cotton mouth like someone else mentioned. The Dr. said no lifesavers cause it makes your stomache think your eating. Hope everyone else's experience is as good~ -
Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
sherrypep replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I went in on 12/21 had to be at the hospital at 630am. Got there and was told the Dr. had an emergency so I would be a little later around 9:30ish. I sat there with my husband and kids. I was very nervous so they gave me something in my IV to calm me down. The Dr. came in to explain the procdure and ask me if I had any questions. He was really great. Has a terrific bedside manner. Helped with my nerves. They came and got me around 9:30. Took me to the OR and next thing I knew I woke up and it was all done. Wow. I had a morphine pump so I did not feel any pain. After I laid in recovery for about 2 hours they took me to my room upstairs. I have a arithmia which was acting up a bit so they hooked me to the heart monitor and other monitors and my family came in to see how I was. I couldn't believe how great I felt, I knew it was the morphine, however the pain was about a 3 on a scale of 1-10 and the gass was minimal. I was reallhy scared after hearing everyones stories. I had bladder problems and couldnt pee so I ended up staying in hospital till today. After they stopped the morphine yesterday and started me on Tylenol with codeine the pain got a little worse but still not bad and I began to have some gass but nothing tremendous. I did a lot of walikng around the halls. They gave me broth and juice after my swalling test and everything went down fine. I am not hungry at all but I am making sure to get plenty of liqueds so I don't dehydrate. All in all I have not had one regret. Don't fret when you read some of the scary posts, everyone is different. I usually have no tolerance for pain but it really want so bad. I have 4 small cuts about 1/2 inch and one bigger one where the port was put in about 1 inch long they are glued not stitched and only hurt when I move the wrong way. I am home now and happy as can be. -

Lap Band Surgery Put On Hold Due To Diagnosis
sherrypep replied to GoBanana's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so sorry to hear you are dealing with so much. I will keep you in my prayers. -
Wow your kids are on break already lucky you. Our break starts next Friday I took a sickday Wed for my surgery and will be off until January 2. I am on a Atkins type diet for two weeks preop going well except severe constipation from all the protein. I wish they would have told me about that part so I could have taken something instead of waiting five days and suffering. I am getting very nervous. Did my preadmission testing yesterday and met with the anethesiologist. They told me my jaw doesnt open as wide as normal jaws so they may have trouble getting the tube down my throat. This is really the only part i am scared about. I don't like the fact that a machine will be breathing for me, scary! Otherwise I am ready for the new and improved me. Best of luck to everyone.

Preadmissions testing tomorrow and banding a week from today. I can't believe it is only 1 more week. It seems like forever since my origanal surgery date was 8/24 and I had to reschedule. My pre-op diet is the Atkins diet and it has been going ok, I really feel for those who have only liqueds. It is weird eating so much protein and thinking "this is the rest of my life" however, I am starting to have less of an appetite in only a week on all this protein. Good luck to all December Bansters.

Are You Having Problems Taking Your Meds Post Lap Band Surgery??
sherrypep replied to oliversmomma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also getting banded on 12/21 and have some of the same concerns. One of my heart meds is a capsule so it can't be crushed. I go for preop on Thursday so I will have to find out what to do but I am on clear liqueds from day 1-5 so I am not sure I can crush them and have apple sauce right after. Good luck! -
Aetna-3 Months Versus 6 Months For Lap Band Surgery?
sherrypep replied to kariew28's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I checked on-line Aetna's requirements and it states that it can be a 3 month or 6 month but you must see all the proper people (dietician, etc...) a certain amount of times in each. I chose the 3 month and the surgeon I use has a weight management center that has a 3 or 6 month program. It was a lot of appointments but when I finished and they submitted to insurance I got approved in 4 days. Good luck my surgery is 12/21. -
Two Days Till Lap Band Surgery - To Final Supper Or Not??
sherrypep replied to cantbetoothinortoorich's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I start my preop diet on Saturday for a 12/21 banding. My Dr. only requires an Atkins diet. I am very happy about no liqued diet but I am going to go carb free and am actually excited about it. I have been eating all my favorites not in excess but thinking that it may be the last time for most of them. -
Good luck to all you bandsters having surgery this week! I am scheduled for 12/21 and sooooo nervous but very excited too! I start my pre-op diet in a week but I am luckly because my Dr. only requires a low carb Atkins diet for two weeks. I am having trouble getting protein shakes down and he said I can get my protein using protein powder in the beginning and other sources of protein once I can go off liqueds. I am a teacher so I will be taking 2 sick days and than have off for almost two weeks to recuperate. 3 weeks I can't believe it's so close.

Welcome everyone, so glad to hear of all the upcoming Christmas Banding. Mine is the 21st and I am counting down the days only 25 days till my life changes. It is weird because I am ready for the food changes and life style changes I have to make, I'm very comitted but I am really scared to be put under anethesia. I keep having nightmares that I don't wake up. My docter said I am low risk because my BMI is only 36 and I am pretty healthy, but I have diabetes and a heart arithmia which is sometimes affected by anesthesia. I Know pre jitters are normal but I really just want to get it done. My mother-in-law wants us to take a trip to her house for christmas day but I wonder if I will be up to it 4 days after surgery? I will have to check with my Doc. Good luck to everyone!

My surgery is 12/21 maybe I made a typo sorry. But thanks for all the well wishes I will keep them close till 12/21.

It's ironic that I decided to read this post because just today I was reviewing how some of my old eating habits have crept back now that I am counting down my 34 days till surgery. I have started having muffins every morning instead of my greek yogurt and going to my favorite places to eat a little to often and having that bowl of frosted flakes at night. I think I am psychologically thinking that I will never see these foods again. I have only gained one pound but I feel that I am going backwards instead of forward. I am going to try and modify my eating as well as my attitude. Hearing so many people say they can still eat things but just not as much helps me realize that it may not be the end of many of my favorites but just a reduction in quantity. Thanks to all those who have shared supportive words it really makes a difference.
