  1. It is probably ketosis, your body goes into starvation mode(only 300 cal??!!) and your body (and brain) starts using fat for fuel instead of glucose for its energy source, which leads to an excess of ketone bodies (hence ketosis). I would recommend consuming more calories (at this stage probs about 900 cal/day) The other thing would be adding carbs to you diet (oats, some peanut butter, slow releasing carbs) as your doctor said, and keeping yourself hydrated (you get mor dehydrated while your in ketosis) In the past doing the Atkins diet I found useful chewing on parsley (which i learned to loved) or even drinking water with parsley in it, it neutralises that bad taste. Hope this helps
  2. I would do what Tiff says, good carbs of slow releasing energy (like oatmeal, wholegrain cereals, a bit of peanut butter) works a treat when you feel low on energy, especially if your gonna up on your excercise(remeber that carbs give our body and our brains the fuel they need), good luck to you!

    Fab 40's shout out

I'm 41, been married for nearly 14 years in september, have 3 girls 12,10 and 9 months, a lovely hubby , 5 weeks out and things are looking good even though I've been on a stall for a couple of weeks! Good luck and congrats to you all!

    Cholesterol

I think the best thing is to eat a balanced diet, I cannot cut out carbs altogether, nor want to, our brains function on carbs, and carbs are our body's main fuel source, it just as long as we make good choices (low GI slow releasing carbs etc) We also need fats to live, some vitamins cannot be absorbed without fats, they're called liposoluble vitamins (A,D,E,K), fats also protect our internal organs.
  5. Add me to your list! I lost 22 pounds the first 3 weeks and I've been on a stall since (I'm 5 weeks out) I haven't weighed myself for the past 2 weeks because I'll just be disappointed, so I'm following my hubbys suggestion of not weighing myself til my appointment on the 23rd. It's not that hard as I don't have scales that work properly anyway. It's reassuring to hear that I'm not the only one in this situation, good luck to you all!
  6. I'm dreading the hair loss too, I have very thin hair, and not too much of it either. I usually use it quite short (just below the ears) I'm letting it grow now so that I don't have to wash it and style it every day, any tips from those of you who already went throgh this? (I'm 5 weeks out, haven't updated ticker because I haven't weight myself for the last 3 weeks)
  7. The doctor recommended me to start walking as soon as possible, so I started straight away (3 days after surgery) but not on the treadmill, just walking in the park beach etc. I'm cleared for proper exercise at the gym at 6 weeks, so I've got one more week to go, I'm excited and I never thought I would miss going to the gym! Besto do what your doctor says though.
  8. I'm 5 weeks out tommorrow and even though I've been given the same guidelines as you I still snack and just eat smaller portions at meal times. I am on the go all the time, have 3 children (one 9 month old baby) so I need my energy during the day. I'm having around 900 calories a day, and trying to stick to that. I've lost around 22lbs and have been on a stall weeks 3 and 4. Now I can feel my clothes starting to get loose again, but not weighing myself till my appointment on the 23rd. I don't mind losing weight a bit slower as long as I keep it off!:thumbup1:

    concerned by high fat

Thank you Donna for that tip, it will come in useful!:thumbup1:
  10. I'm sure you will get better soon, I will keep you in my prayers!
  11. I agree with wannalise, if you check the composition of a lot of low fat foods, you will find the they have more carbohydrates then the full fat version, and fat and protein keep you full for longer. Today I'm extremely hungry, and even though I did well, went to the beach and didin't have a taste of icecream or anything that my family was having except from orange juice(today is holiday here in England) < I am feeling a bit low, hungry (head hunger I suppose) and in a bad mood becuase of it. Came on here to vent!

    Tomorrow is SLEEVE DAY!

Best thing to have it in the morning, good luck to you!
  13. I'm a month out and I have to confess that i do tend to have a tiny drink sometimes with my meals to wash it down as you say. My doctor however told me not to do it so I should really stop doing it!

    Reassurance Needed

Go for it, I'm a month out and we just started paying for it, so we have 10 months (we paid with a 0% credit card) that we will be about minus?1000, i think it's worth every penny though!
  15. so how's the pain now?? are you ok?? Good luck to you!

I am hungry! 6 weeks out

Donna hang in their!! I'm a month out and I've done near 900-1000 cal a couple of days, now I'm back on track. As my hubby says, it's not that bad considering that i used to easily eat 3000 cal a day. You cannot give up now (i know that I would of given up already if it wasn't for the sleeve)even if you want too. You can do it, and try excersizeing, you'll get a great high from endorfins and that will give you motivation to keep going! I know how you feel though, I get hungry too, head hunger more than anything, so I've cut down my meal portions and just eat a snack when I'm hungry, after a few bites i'm full.

    Well done Christie!!

    Post surgery thoughts

I have the same thoughts as you, God knows that we didn't do this to ourselves and that we were brave enough to make the desicion to go ahead and have surgery. I'm one month out tommorrow and even though I haven't lost much in the last 2 weeks, I'm very happy to have gone ahead with this. Even if it takes me a year to get to my goal I will be happy. And it's true you will feel normal soon enough, I just had a turkey rasher, half a scrambled egg and half a cooked tomato for breakfast and am full with that! I can't believe, in the past I was able to eat 3 times that amount, plus coffee and toast! Good luck to you.

Aren't you at goal already Jane? After how many months did you start drinking wine? How do you tolerate it? Not that I'm planning on drinking loads, it's just that at some point I'm going to have to face going out with my friends and I expect to at least be able to drink a small glass of wine.

    You're dream outfit

For me it's the perfect pair of jeans, with a fitted top and high heels! Is that too much too ask for?? I love your dream outfits!!
  21. Go with your family!! I've been out a few times, when my mum came all the way to England from South America, they would eat burgers, fish and chips, and I would quite happily sit there having my soup!!
  22. Well done Carrie!!!!!!

    This will make you angry!!!

It's been on TV news radio all day as well, and the doctor on GMTV this morning first said one thing, (that bariatric surgery is a good way of saving money,) but the 2nd time he appeared he was kind of against it, it's a media hype thing in my opinion. So should they not treat skin cancer for patients who sunbathe like mad, or lung cancer for those who smoke???

    This will make you angry!!!

I haven't even read all the responses opinions but have an idea of what people are saying. It annoys me beyond belief because these people who are emiting irresponsible opinions don't know what they are saying. As if eat less and move more does the trick. There is extensive research suporting the fact that obesity is MULTIFACTORIAL, a combination of many things, and we, who tried everything, and most of us have prob been yo-yo dieting for most of our lives (I know I have), should know. Have you commented yet Jane on the BBC website?, I might in a while when (and if)I'm a bit calmer!

    concerned by high fat

It is strange that you get more than 30 if your only eating lean protein (tuna, chicken) and the parmesan wont count for THAT much. Aprox 30% of you total calories should come from fat, so that's about 180 calories of your 600 calories per day. Maybe as we were saying in another thread your body went into starvation mode, that doesn't account for the 30 gr of fat though, confusing. Are you sure your entering the right amounts etc in you tracker??
