Cant drink protein drinks ?
chilo1 replied to Barbie_70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find soft low fat cheese, cottage cheese(low fat), mushed up lentils with some vegetables, eggs, helpful. Also spinach and broccoli, hope this helps! -
100 gr of chicken has around 30 gr of protein, i think you should get around 60 gr at least as somebody mentioned earlier

What can I eat in mushies??
chilo1 replied to Barbie_70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did mashed potatoes and spinach with low fat cheese a lot, according to my doctor just normal food that you can mush up! -
Eating habits before vs. after surgery
chilo1 replied to Dave_NW's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi dave, I used to have that same issue, after 31 years of dieting on and off (I've first been put on a diet when I was 9) I lost the signals that tell me when I'm hungry and when I'm full. Apparently this is common in people who diet too much, you loose those cues so just eat till you are emotionally not hungry anymore stuffing yourself and getting fat. When I decided to have this surgery (i'm 6 weeks out now) i felt like it was my last resource, I've had a gastric balloon in a few years ago, lost about 23 pounds, put it all back on and more! I just thought that the only thing that would stop me overeating was a physical barrier, i.e. a smaller stomach, I didn't want to put my hopes up with the ghrelin thing. After surgery my hunger has diminished a lot, don't get me wrong, I do get hungry, but I try to differentiate between head hunger and real hunger. The big difference is that I get full much quicker and I don't feel hungry anymore after eating a bit, it's incredible! People react differently to this surgery though, I am not one of those people who cant get enough nutrients in, but you can feel when you've had enough. I don't weigh my food just guesstimate and pay attention now to the cues that tell me that I'm full and it works! As for the snacking I know I should stop, but i find it more comfortable to eat about 6 times a day, so when I do snack/graze I count it as a meal and count it in my daily calorie intake, roughly, and it's working for me. I'm not losing as quick as a lot of people on this forum, I lost about 25 pounds in 6 weeks, but it's good for me, I just hope I keep losing! Hope this helps, good luck to you! -
what do you wish you knew before hand
chilo1 replied to salty91's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been taking the medication to prevent gallstones 2 days after surgery, hadn't had any problems yet and hopefully won't have any! Different surgeons have different guidelines from what i can see on this forum, so best stick to what are doctors recommend! -
Diet after surgery w/o artificial foods
chilo1 replied to SouthernSleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stevia is a natural sweetener as well as agave nectar, I think stevia has less calories if any than agave nectar. Google them, they taste OK. Hope this helps -
Proteins are essential to the body as they maintain body structures, bones, muscles, skin hair. The lack of protein in our bodies can lead to malnutrition, muscle wasting, and in severe cases it can affect the brain heart liver, kidneys (this is very rare but can happen in cases of starvation). So getting enough proteins is as important as getting enough liquids!

you guys are so lucky you're having trouble upping your calories, I'm having trouble keeping them down! When I'm hungry I have a triangle of soft lowfat cheese, for a meal I love beans(refried or anykind really) with tomatoes and low fat grated cheese and in the grill for a few minutes. I also love cottage cheese or ricotta bake, with spinach and nutmeg, yummm!! I'm 6 weeks out and I started going to the gym so I hope I continue losing weight, as I'm doing around 900 calories a day now, and as some of you said i try to vary to trick my body, somedays I'll eat less fat, somedays less carbs, I do try to keep my proteins up though, I still usually have 1 protein drink a day.

Well I'm glad I didn't get"jumped at" I just thought that I had to say what i always felt came through her posts and blogs, total negativity, i did on one of her posts or blogs recommend that she should get the band removed and NOT get the sleeve done, just wait and see how she felt about it. As a doctor I know very well that mood, state of mind, etc does really affect outcome of surgery, healing, pain etc. She obviously ignores peoples reccomendations/opinions when they don't suit her. I do think she needs professional help and I hope she gets it. She suffers from various conditions, epilepsy, fibromyalgia, I'm surprised she qualified for the sleeve in the first place. I do hope she finds resolution to her issues and can accept what she's done and get on with her life. I truly wish her the best.

God, I thought I was the only one who thought like this, I'm glad I'm not alone, I was starting to feel like a horrible person, but in the end we are grown ups and nobody can "force" us to do anything!

Honestly Carrie, you don't cease to amaze me, you are going to try and sue the Anaesthesiologist??? Did you not do any pshychological tests before having this surgery? Did you or did you not sign a consent form? Did the Anaesthesiologist not come to see you before the operation was performed before any drugs were given to you? At least here in England you need to go through certain psychological/personality tests to even be considered a candidate for this surgery, and the surgeon and anaesthesiologist come to you hospital bed on the day you are admitted for the operation to make sure that you're still willing to get rid of more than half of your stomach and that you understand all that this entitles. I would be amazed if in the States they didn't do the same. As I said before but you deleted my comment, I honestly have not got any intention of offending you, but I think you are just so bitter about the choice you made and you're trying to blame anyone, first it was your husband and now the Anaesthesiologist! As an intelligent adult you should be able to hold yourself responsible of your actions and your desicions. I know I'm not popular on this forum anyway, but I couldn't read what you said and say nothing.

Complications (Previous Post and Update)
chilo1 replied to momoftwo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am glad you're on the mend. Complications can happen no matter who's the doctor who did the operation! -
I'm pre-op and the negative comments worry me!
chilo1 replied to sweetlover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me the main reason of having this surgery was to not be able to eat as much as I used to, physically. I'm not hungry all the time, but sometimes I do have headhunger, so my main reason wasn't to beat the hunger because I knew a lot of my hunger was emotional Pycholgical or however you want to call it. I am soo happy I did this, I have lost around 23 pounds and still have another 40 to get to my target weight. Of it is an operation, with all it's risks. If I haven't had this op I know i would get bigger and bigger, with the comorbities that being obese brings, so probably osteoporosis would be the least of my worries (if i even lived that long). I'm quite sure that the diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, etc etc would come before the osteoporosis! -
I don`t belive it, Where`d it go?
chilo1 replied to LittleSteve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 6 weeks out tommorrow and haven't been hungry for a few days , weeks 3 and 4 I was really hungry, now as you say I get that empty sensation at the most, it's great, don't yoou think? -
Scared I might have ruined my sleeve experience
chilo1 replied to achopp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think you've ruined your sleeve at all! I feel/know that I eat too much carbs, I try to stick to the good carbs but I find it difficult.I drink a lot of milk which contribute to my high carbs. I know that this is one of the reasons that I'm losing slower, I've lost about 22 pounds 5 weeks out, but as from today i am planning to get myself back on track, it's never too late, you're doing great! -
Very low-carb diets may INCREASE mortality
chilo1 replied to ouroborous's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think this is key to our success, having a balanced diet, including carbs, but as little as possible refined ones, but we can't go without slow energy releasing carbs(oats, wholemeal, grains, beans etc) that's our major source of energy. Thanks for sharing! -
Head off Wednesday! Please help me wish for no fog!!!
chilo1 replied to TwoStepsBack's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck to you hoping there won't be any fog. I had my sleeve done in a Spire Hospital up here in the Northeast, it was great! -
Pleease correct me if Im wrong....
chilo1 replied to Val_Martin's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
That's what my nutritionist told me to do, as long as it's meat, veg, and nothing very high carbs, calories or fat. -
Coops I'm in your same situation, only I'm 5 weeks out, had 1 "period" after suergery,if you can call that a period, hardly anything, now got all the symptoms but nothing happened yet, no chance I'm pregnant either (tubes tied). My friend whose a Gynaecologist said that it can happen after surgeries of this type, hormones all over the place etc. So I'm not weighing myself till after my period!!

Fish is a really good source of protein(and healthier and less cal than meat), I'm 5 weeks out and have different types of fish and it all goes down really well, I can't wait to try a bit of sushi!

i've been taking biggish pills since a few days after my surgery, no problems whatsoever, but as Donna said, best ask your doctor

Discomfort and nausea when eating
chilo1 replied to BlackBerryJuice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a small sausage last night and then felt like hell, nauseous, tachicardic, dizzy, I'd had to go to bed and eventually fell asleep for half an hour and was fine when I woke up. Like BBJuice I've eaten more than that in one go before and haven't felt that way, I think maybe it's linked to the type of food, the sausage might have been to "heavy" for my sleeve??
