    Vitamins question..

Thanks for the info, my multi has 20 micrgrams of B12, but as I read that there's no harm if you take excess as your body just gets rid of it I'll pick some up from Costco just to be on the safe side!

    Vitamins question..

I was wondering about the B12 as well, my multi has B12 I think it was 2,5 micrograms, I can't find B12 on it's own, I'm wondering if i should buy it over the internet. I read a study though saying that there is no clinical evidencce that it is absorbed better sublingual, i don't know if it's different for us sleevers though. Today I will continue w my research and let you know what i find/

    30-40 grams of carbs??

Oh, and I eat mashed potatoes, about 2 tablespoons most days with my meat/fish!

    30-40 grams of carbs??

My 3 week stall lasted ages, in the end I just gave up on weighing myself, my husband said the same, just continue to do what you're doing and wait a month at least to get weighed. I did and my overall results are good, and my surgeon was very happy w my weight loss. I'm a bit more than halfway to goal after 2 months, I have about 38 more pounds to lose. I too have a higher carb intake than most here, I track my intake on myfatsecret.com. My calories are between 800-1000 a day, carbs sometimes around 100. I am trying to reduce maybe to about 50 because I don't want to stall for such a long time again, but i still my need my carbs to function, look after 3 children(10 month old baby included) and go to the gym for a 1 hour cardio workout 4 times a week. I would try to reduce my carbs to about half if I were you, I'm working on that as well! As long as you continue with low calorie and exercise I think you'll start losing again regardless. I do eat the odd cookie, piece of toast, but mostly my carbs come from skimmed milk (which a drink a lot) I eat oatmeal some mornings, some fruit, and basically that. Good luck to you!
  5. I've failed to keep my carbs low, I try to eat good carbs though. I need carbs because I'm on the go all day, 3 children (12yrs-10yrs and 10 months) and I go to the gym 4 times a week, without carbs to give me energy I wouldn't function. I'm happy with my weightloss though, I'm more than halfway to target after 2 monts (ticker not updated). I did stall for a few weeks at weeks 3-4 and I expect to stall again.

    Slightly Sad

I'm 2 months out now and have been through the same. I'm starting to enjoy food a bit more now, even if just in tiny portions. At first weekends were especially hard and sad, as a family we used to cook together and then enjoy our homemade pizzas! Now its gradually changing, I even went out w friends and had a couple of drinks and it felt fab! My taste is a bit better, i enjoy food a bit more, I've been told it gets better with time. Make the most of it now to lose all the weight you can (within what your surgeon requires vcalorie and protein wise of course!)
  7. That is so funny, aren't kids the best! The other day I bumped into a friend I haven't seen in ages, she sai I've never seen you so skinny! My 12 year old was there, when we got into the car, she said "I wanted to tell your frien, of course she's skinny, she just got half of her stomach chopped off" I corrected her and said not half, about 85% actually!
  8. I frogot now the details of this study but it does makes sense, to me at least. If you have consume a very low carb diet for a very long period of time, you wil automatically consume much more fat, protein and even salt than advised, which will , in time, lead to coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, liver disease, the list goes on and on. One of the main reasons I decide to have this surgery is to be able to consume a "norma" varied diet. More unrefined slow release carbs, more "good" fats, less junk!

    cosmetic bliss.

I see there'e one in Norwich and one in Cambridge, the ggo thing is that the surgeons are the same surgeons that do surgery on the NHS, so you can fully check the consultants and ask about their experience etc

    Feeling Guilty

We shouldn't feel guilty, obesity is a disease, we tried for years to get better but we couldn't so we decided to have this surgery. God wouldn't disagree with a diabetic having insulin injections, would he? Or an operation to remove a tumour. I genuinely believe that most of us here made this decision of having surgery not lightly and having tried a thousand other ways of losing weight and not succeeding. I too still feel guilty sometimes, but I know I made the right choice for me and my family. I won't deny that vanity came into the equation too.Whenever anybody I love is having an operation I pray to God to bless and illuminate the surgeon, and make him/her make the right decisions during the operation. In my books God is a God of love, compassion and understanding and I thank him for helping me take this big step in my life!

    C-Section vs VSG

I had 3 c-sections,with the last one especially I had no pain at all. So for me the sleeve was worse but just in the inmediate postop, I remember telling the surgeon when I was still half "out" that he lied to me saying that the c-section was worse! I have to say it was only the 1st couple of hours, and it was the pain of gas and tummy discomfort, not pain as in wound pain. I think I had it too easy with my c-sections and I would do the sleeve all over again, the pain isn't bad and the results are incredible!

    hi all!

Hi Lisa! The first step is to go to your GP, see what they say and go from there. My GP referred me to a bariatric surgeon and although my BMI was below 40 and didn't have any major comorbidities, I did start having joint pain and Insuline reistance that would have gone on to full blown diabetes I'm sure. I then decided to go private because the waiting lista was massive, I would have to wait a bit more than a year to have the surgery. I went to a consultant of the Spire hospital, you can look them up they are all over England, and from seeing the consultant to the date of the operation I waited 6 weeks! Just ask if you want anymore details, I'll try and attach a Link of the hospitals. www.spirehealthcare.com/ Hope this helps good luck!
  20. Yep my surgeon said pretty much the same, a window of 6-9 months. He also said that the average amount of weight loss is only 3/4 of excess weight, so if I am going to go strictly by the average I won't even bother in getting to target., but he said losing that 25% to get to target depends completely on me.Having said that and having a father and a husband who are surgeons, and being a doctor myself, I know that it is their duty to give us an average according to the statistics. So , as my husband put it, if a patient with prostate cancer asks him how long he will live after having the surgery to eliminate the cancer he says 5 years average. Many patients die before the 5 years many die at 10 years and some don't die at all. A lot of this depends on us, so just continue doing what you are doing and I'm sure you'll (we'll) make it!
  21. I had my surgery in the summer, but my mum came from South America to look after them (and me) I agree with all the posts above, just let them get on with their normal life, school, sports etc if possible. I spoke to my girls about my surgery (12 and 10 years, baby 10 months!) didn't put across my worries, which as parents especially we all have I suppose. Just told them that I was getting my stomach made smaller (they know of my struggle w my weight and I don't want to pass my anxiety on to them) and that my main reason for doing this was to be healthy. They weren't that bothered or worried about the whole issue, distracted with my mum I guess! Now they can't believe how little I can eat! My weight has never been an issue for them, I am/was a low BMIer, so to speak, they do tell me now that I look good all the time which is great especially coming from my 12 yr old fashion consious daughter! You'll love your sleeve Mommyof2girls, and having daughter around is great, I have 3, best of luck for you!

    Public Service Announcement

I can't help laughing! Sorry, it's probably not at all funny for you but "entire post written in the bathroom" was just too funny! Hope you'rw better by now!
  23. I'm sorry about your situation and one thing I read somewhere (if you want I can look for the article) were cases of sleeves stretching or not working as expected and being banded after the sleeve. I don't if you or your surgeon would consider this, the good thing being that if it didn't work you could take it out. How much weight do you still have to lose if you don't mind me asking?
  24. chilo1

    Woo Hoo!!

Thats a fantastic feeling, keep going!!
  25. MAybe the inches are coming off if not the pounds? Do you not have a way to contact your surgeon. I feel that your organism needs a good kick somehow to start losing again, I know you don't have many options out there, but maybe make some changes in what you're eating? Just a thought, it's confusing though that eating so little you're not losing though:confused1:
