If it were up to me I guess I wouldn't eat enough?
chilo1 replied to Globetrotter's topic in Food and Nutrition
The 5 day pouch test isn't all liquids, it's 2 days protein shakes and soups and protein for the next 3 days. I've had potatoes, rice a few times, but don't anymore, now i ussually just have protein and salad/veggies, i don't have the urge for those type of carbs. You're lucky you don't feel any hunger this far out, I do feel hungry when I've not eaten anything for 2 or 3 hours -
Each surgeon/nutritionist have different guidelines and calorie requirements, and we should respect that. I had a few chocolate mlikshakes w protein in and still enjoy them once in a while, they come to about 250 cal and if I have to sacrifice a meal fot them I do. We are all different and different things work for different people.

When I was doing my research for WLS I wanted something permanent. I had a gastric balloon in about 5 years ago for about 10 months, needless to say the weight piled right back on. When I went to see the surgeon he said that the "negative" thing about the sleeve was that it wasn't reversible. Even though I had less that 100lb to lose (around 70) I said why would you want to reverse weight loss surgery?? Worse case scenario, if you lose too much there are ways to keep thecalories coming in. I haven't got to goal yet, but it's the best thing I've ever done, and I'd recomend it to anyone who needd to lose 50lbs or more!

Another positive NSV... I had a bath tonight... ok so that isn't unusual... well, for me it is cos I don't normally have a bath, I tend to shower... less time to see my self naked...lol Anyway, the last time I had a bath was way before my sleeve... I couldn't believe how much room was in there!!! I have definately shrunk in width... and my tummy was almost all under the water too....yey!!! Love this NSV!!! As Irene said you lost a pound even though it's that TOM, I'm sure a few pounds will come off in the next couple of days, can't wait to see pics!! -
INCREDIBLE, and inn such a short time, you are looking fantastic!!
-
i would try weaning now just in case. You've already done more than 6 months of breastfeeding which is more than most people do nowadaays, and the most important benefits for the baby. It's just a thought, yoou don't know how you're gonna feel after surgery and what your milk production will be like. My baby was about 8 months when I was sleeved, but I had given up before becuase of other issues. Good luck with your sleeve!

I agree with this GT, I watched a scientific programme the other day where they demonstrated that 2 people on the same amount of calories and fat diet, one included diary and one one didn't, the fat loss through the stools of the patient consuming diaries was double to the one who wasn't. Here's an interesting article as well http://www.nature.com/oby/journal/v12/n4/full/oby200467a.html

For those of you who have small-ish children...do you ever worry?
chilo1 replied to chilo1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks about this, we all want to be good role models for our children and want what's best for them, hopefully by changing our eating habits with our sleeves we will be better role models for them. Good luck to us! -

So I have 3 girls, 12 y,10y and 13 months, and I worry. I worry because even though they're nor fat(they aren't skinny either), the older ones are starting to get consious about the way they look, looking fat in certain clothes, and basically not wanting to be fat, they never try to diet or anything yet thank God. I had a bad experience with this, as a child (at 9 years old I was put on a diet and I wasn't even fat-I had however put on about 8 pounds in a year after moving from the states to S America so my parents thinking it was best for me took me to the doctors who put me on a lowcalorie diet, can you imagine, at 9 ?) and have had weight issues ever since. I do not put my girls on a diet, just try to feed the a healthy balanced diet (but obviously I can't and won't control everything they put in their mouths) and encourage them to exercise, they love dancing and they do that 3 times a week for 3 hours. I just worry that they will think in the future that what I did is the easy way out. I have explained them my weight issues and the reason I had to resort to surgery, but as a mum I still worry. Do any of you have these issues in the back of your minds, or is it just me being paranoid?? -

It's a size 10 US, but I'll let you all know, and probably the rest of the world cause I''ll be screaming at the top of my lungs when I can actually put them on and look good in them, can't wait, even though the pounds are shifting at the moment despite the pouch test -
I had a Mirena for a good 5 years and loved it, couldn't even remeber or feel that I had it in(neither could my husband). Never had an UTI or discharge or anything. I went through a "period" of having very heavy periods and my gynecologist recommened changing from the pill to Mirena and my periods went back to normal. For me it was a good experience all round, but I guess we all react differently! Now I've got my tubes tied so not a prob anymore )

Just focus on eating/drinking really slowly and thinking about everything you put in your mouth at the moment. I found it very confusing the first few weeks, feeling hungry, you'll get used to it in due time and hopefully not feel as hungry as you feel now. Just follow your surgeons guidelines and good luck!

Really worried; need advice
chilo1 replied to Smillzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should bear in mind that different doctors have different rules and eating plans. I was allowed Soups and soggy Cereal, oatmeal from day 3 after surgery. My guidelines are different than most people on this forum, as I'm allowed carbs as long as I get enough protein in. I did once or twice have an urge for eating tortilla chips when I was only a couple of weeks out, I had a few, chewed extra well and it was fine, not that I'm suggesting you to do that! As others have already said, once you've started with dense protein, chicken, eggs, you'll realise that yyou do get full after a couple of bites! I haven't lost the weight as quick as some people, but I am losing steadily and my surgeon is happy and so am I! -
Milk, I have it in my protein drinks, and at least 3 times a day in coffee and tea, my nutrtionist is fine with that, as long as it's fat free or at least semi skimmed, I'm a milk addict, and what contributes to my high carbs big time

My 12 yr old stops eating when she's full, my 10 yr old eats till she's stuffed. I don't want to put pressure on her because what my psychologist who helped through my "eating disorder", or disordered eating as she called it said is that there is a lot of research that shows that when from a young age we are told when to stop eating those "cues" that normally tell us when we are full or when we are hungry are lost, or aren't given a chance to develop properly, which I believe is true, as I said earlier from the age of 9 I was put on a diet,I was told what to eat when to stop, how much I could eat, and I know that my fullness cue didn't exist , I would eat till I physically couldn't anymore, the sleeve helped me so much with that because now I pay attention to when I'm full, still amazed how I completed changed my relationship with food -

chilo1 replied to Globetrotter's topic in Food and Nutrition
All I can say is that I'm doing lowcarbs now and high protein (5 day pouch test ) and haven't lost ANY weight! I'm gonna finish it for the sake of it and just to make sure my sleeve is working and to get rid of the bad carbs I have been eating round christmas time and then go back to my higher carbs again (but good carbs !) I believe that a balanced diet including all the food groups is what works best for me, especially because I don't want to deprive myself of carbs and then when I start eating them again go mad because I have been restricted for so long and end up putting on weight. -
It's cold here in the north of England but I 've never felt the cold so much in my life! I always used to be the hot sweaty one, I'm sure that ghrelin theory is right!
