  1. Amazing story, thanks for sharing! This forum is the best, I too find that my friends but especially family are sick of me going on and on about my weightloss journey, so this is my lifeline!

    How is 1200 Calories enough?

Susanne that's what I mean, we who are/ have been obese have our metabolisms so effed up, that we obviously need/ed a veryl low calorie diet to lose a big chunk of weight. With those 1700 you say you need to maintain, that would be maintaining the weight you are now, and probably putting some on as you say, because of our extreme dieting/binge eating in the past! Funny last night I was looking at a phase I went thorough on a "healthy" diet, trying to lose weight presurgery a few years ago, and counting the calories that I was eating at the time I was eating 1700-2000 cal a day, so no wonder I wasn't losing, and that was me on a diet, I dread to think how much I was consuming when I wasn't on a "diet" prob near 4000 cal a day, scary
  3. Awwwwwww now you 2 made me smile and want to cry at the same time! The other thing you forgot to mention, that even though we are slow losers, I am a slow loser even though I have less to lose, is how much healthier we are now! For every pound we lose we are at less risk for all those horrible diseases that come with obesity
  4. You know I've had 3 c-sections and that has always been my fear as well! I didn't get a catheter when I had my sleeve, as far as I can remeber, and if i did it was when I was under. So I undertand your fear, just ask them if they have to and if they do to put it in and take it out while you're still out,. Good luck!
  5. True what Julie said about the carbs, I did the 5 day pouch test, and even though I didn't lose any weight I don't crave any "bad" carbs whatsoever!

    Fruits and Veggies

Glad you reposted that here mini-me!
  7. I don't think you need 80 gr protein, maybe 60 or 70 this far out. I've been told that I should do a balanced diet, lean proteins, slow releasing carbs, fruit veg, milk. I wouldn't do protein drinks this far out either, especially since you can eat a fair amount. Just go back to basics, trcxk your food, try to do around 1000-1200 cal a day. How much do you weigh and how tall ere you if you don't mind me asking? I can eat quite a bit and I'm only 5 1/2 months out so I'm starting again, after not been very good over christmas, to track my food and make the right choices. I don't think your sleeve has stretched, you just got a bit out of control.Hope this helps

So What's the Deal with Milk?

It's funny how this thread started as concern for milk and finished in protein drinks!
  10. I slice a tomato thinly and add it in with refried beans and some cheese ina a weight watchers wrap and make a panini type of thing, I find that slightly cooked tomatoes don't take up much space at all. Yesterday I made a lasagna but with eggplant, tomatoes, peppers and cheese, it was yummy and again not heavy to my stomach at all, full of "goodness"
  11. :)Have you not tried myfatsecret.com? That works well fro me. I'm sure you'll start losing again, it just gets frustrating when you're workng hard and you don't see the scales move. I usually wegh 1 or twice a month.

    How is 1200 Calories enough?

Exactly, which is what I've been trying to say GT, but in us who are/have been obese it's not as straightforward as Sussanne said- I guess that's why WLS is our only solution, because we go on a Very Low Calorie diet (around 800) and when we lose a big bulk of weightn(which even if you don't think yours is a big bulk it it GT) and from there we try and slowly up our calories as we get closer to goal, to, at some point become "normal" people and be able to function on a diet of around 2000 cal and neither lose or put on weight!! (this is what my nut explained) But then again, we're all diifferent and diff things work for different people, sighhhhhhhhhhh

    NSV shout outs

Love it! I Just had a similar one right now.I Never use my husbands t-shirts cause I know they fit me even though he's big (tall and muscles and a bit of a beer belly but not obese at all) put one of his t-shirts on now (emergency) and it's huge!!

    How is 1200 Calories enough?

OK so I found the formula to calculate your Basal metabolic rate. BMR=655+(4.35xweight in lbs)+(4.7xheight in inches) -(4.7xage) To maintain your weight( your daily calorie needs) you multiply your BMRx 1.2 (sedentary) BMRx 1.375 (lightly active) BMRx 1.55(moderatly active) BMRx1.725(veryactive) To lose weight your daily calorie needs minus 500 to 1000 calories This is just a guideline www.bmi-calculator.net
  16. Don't feel bad mini me, it isn't that much, your body needs to get used to eating a "normal" amount of calories. Suppoedly to maintain you should roughly be havining aroung 1700 cal. There's a thread somewhere where Tiffykins says she eatsfrom 1200 to 2000 cal a day to maintain
  17. hmmm, looks good, but maybe add a tiny bit more carbs in form of fruit or veg (an orange or a tomato//green beans/brocoli maybe a day) if you still aren't losing, might stir things up a bit, my humble opinion (I wish I could eat as little as you are)

    How is 1200 Calories enough?

I too am hoping that after getting to goal I'll be able to maintain with 1500-2000 cal, in the past I could have a LOT of calories in a day I am guessing around 3000 a day, and after dieting so much my body would hang onto every single calorie, and well the rest is history...
  19. How many calories aproximately are you eating coops?? Remeber all the starvation mode thing is true!
  20. Tiff I would def go and see your surgeon/doctor. As GT said maybe your intestines/gas? Just to make sure it's not your liver or pancreas you best get it checked. I'm sure you'll be fine, keep us posted!

    How is 1200 Calories enough?

I hate to say this but I am a nutritionist. I did my degree in Medicine, worked in general medicine, then did a Masters in Nutrition and Psychological Sciences. I am not a bariatric nutriotinist but what you are saying is completely true. I stopped trying to give advice and stuff to people on this forum because each surgeon/nutritionist have different guidelines and I respect that. I am working with my bariatric nutritionist and learning a lot. I am 5 1/2 months out now and on 1000-1200 calories a day. On another thread I posted a formula to calculate how many calories you need to lose weight depending on your weight, height, age and gender. To lose weight around 1500 cal should be OK as you mentioned, BUT it isn't as straight forward as it looks. I did a lot of research on starvation and how the body reacts to it. According to my nutritionist I should be upping my calories gradually, until I get to around 1400. When I get to goal, like tiffy said as well I should be having between 1500-2000 cal.
  22. How many carbs do you usually do? yesteday I did near 100! A lot came from milk. Having said that today I am FULL of energy, did my workout on much more intensity than usual, and got a real kick out of it! I had 2 eggs and a latte (skimmed milk) for Breakfast, now for lunch I had a small piece of wholemeal toast with sugar free organic Peanut Butter, lush! I have 10 more pounds to goal so I plan to start eating like I plan to do for the rest of my life and workout, not only does it help us lose weight but it keeps us fit and healthy, go us!!

Eating Only 3 Times a Day and No Snacking...

I refuse to call what I do snacking, I'd rather say I have 5 small meals a day. Apart from my 3 main meals I have 2 "snacks" which are usually yoghurt, or protein (cheese stick, a piece of cold meat) and few cups of coffee or tea (with milk).
  24. Pumpkin I can see where you are coming from when you say people are overdoing it with pills, but as Tiffy, research clearly shows that there are certain things we SHOULD be taking. I don't like taking vitamins/supplements either, because I used to eat loads of everything before surgery. As sonn as I started the preop liver shrinking diet I started taking my Multivitamin. Now I take my multi, B12 (you can't overdose on B12 ) Iron (true about constipation for me too, I use benefiber or similar everday) calcium (even though I drink loads of milk, calcium absorption can be tricky). I'd rather be safe then sorry, and even though I eat more than most people w sleeves 1000-1200 cal and now I include ALL foodgroups, 5 1//2 months out I still take my vitamins. My Surgeon recommends to take them for life
