    Banded Yesterday!

Wow congrats TX! Sounds like you're doing great so far, lol. I'm wondering too like Shaydee ^.. Did they give you any meal plan before you left?
  2. Did you go on the pre op liquid diet yourself to lose the 10lbs or did your surgeon tell you to? *curious*

    Holy crap

Wow, That sure does sound like a flea market! LOL @ the Welfare question. I still had my appointments while i was attending the seminars. The one's at BIDMC in Boston are held every other Thursday. So i don't know why you have to wait so long.. When i went to my second session, I was 1/2 hr late and i snuck in. The place as packed too! And people were standing. I saw the nutritionist and asked her if we had to stay for the -entire- thing because it was the same as the last. She didn't seem to mind if we stayed or left. So me and my mom ducked out while the questions were being asked. You could be there for hours !! But that was fine, because i stayed through the whole thing the first time i went. Well, until all my questions were answered atleast. Just make sure you start booking your appointments. I had my first appointment before i went to any info session! They just said "make sure you attend atleast 2" and i did. So i would get on the ball and start the process in the meantime. I don't see why you have to keep waiting.. Unless you've already got things rolling!

    I'm scared!!!

Hi Katie, We are the same age!! woohoo - I do not have the band -yet- but i am scheduled next month and let me tell you... I am really happy and excited about it! I feel like i have made the right decision especially after attending the info sessions. I have been struggling with my weight since i was born! I weighed 10lbs 1oz - lol .. And i swear, It's just something i have lived with my entire life. I am ready to finally get it under control and do the things that i just do not have the energy for anymore and even new things i could never do because of my size. My friend/co-worker has the band and she looks great. AND she did not lose ANY hair. I even asked her if she had hair loss and she gave me a strange look, lol. When i told her people on the forum, a lot of people mentioned losing their hair.. She said she never lost any of hers. Even if you lose -some- .. It will grow back. You won't stay bald or anything. lol I also know 3 people who had the gastric bypass and one woman, her hair is kinda frayed ... The other 2 look fine, I did not notice any hair loss on them. Trust me, I was really upset after reading the hair loss thread. But i'm sort of getting over it now, lol.

Who Has Lost Over 100 Pounds?!?!

    Secret? Yes or No.

Wow Soph - Is anyone at all supportive about it? Maybe your husband should attend an info session and see what it's all about. I think we've all tried diets and they just doesn't work; they're only temporary solutions for a lifetime problems. I don't see how the band is taking the easy way out.. I would deff. take someone to the info seminar. Here i am more concerned about co-workers and you're husband and friends are discouraging you. Hmmph.

    Secret? Yes or No.

When i told my father.. He said NO, NO, NO. right off the bat. He thought it was the gastric bypass. My mom attended the 2 info sessions with me and we explained the LapBand to him.. Slowly he began to change his tune. He's still just scared for the surgery part because a Patriots former coach had the bypass and almost died. For some reason, My dad can't look past that. He seems more okay with it now. I mean, he's even taken me to my appointments. One co-worker does not believe in surgery, but it's easy for her to say because she's so thin. Then i have the co-worker who did have the lapband and i see her success and everyone telling her how great she looks..She's very open about it. The people who disapprove won't say it to her face.. If only they knew, I am getting mine next.

    Those two Boys!

The boys in Missouri?? Wow, I was watching the news eariler.. I can't believe it! Thank goodness they're safe and back with their families. I hope the perv who kidnapped them rots. What happened is so similar to that movie "I know my first name is Steven" The true story which has been airing on Lifetime for like 20 years now. Very dejavu'ish.. A boy missing for years, another boy kidnapped. Both found okay.. Geez.

So what do you think about the surge?

I agree. GWB is the worst president in the history of this country. He is a disgrace and this war is embarassing. I am so tired of hearing his speeches about not giving up on the Iraqi people and we can't withdraw now because then we won't "win".. Does he not realize that there is NO win? Saddam is gone.. SO? The terrorism in Iraq will not just stop. Our troops can not stay there forever.. Only until Bush's term is up, then he can throw everything on the next president's lap and wash his hands clean. Every year he's said they're going to pull out and now he wants to send what? 20,000 more over there???? wth.

    Hair Loss

I asked my friend at work today if she lost any hair and she said nope, she looked at me strange for even asking her! I told her how i was reading it on this forum and it seemed pretty common that people lost their hair.. Though she has not lost any. I hope i don't either.

    Bidmc

Is your anemia all straightened out now? I had a snag with that as well. I've been anemic for years though, mostly because i do not eat red meat / pork .. only chicken. When i got my lab work done, it came back low and kinda funky so i had to get it taken again so they could check my B-12. Sure enough, i was put on a Vitamins asap. I am taking Flintstone Complete, Vitron C for Iron, Vitamin D-400 and had to get a B-12 shot from my PCP!

    February 2007 bandsters!

I was so shocked that he said a month! The woman i work with was out for 2 1/2 weeks .. But he also said if i want to go back in 3 weeks once i follow up with him, that'd be okay too. I am hoping for that! I will fill out a form at my job and take a LOA.. They usually do not give problems when it's medical related. But i'm the Receptionist and being out means there has to be major coverage, So i am slightly expected a little bit of grief. The job is not my life, THIS is my life.. If they can not accept that...well .. too bad for them! Or me who will be out of a job, lol.
  13. Hi Everyone :huggie: I received my surgery date today, Feb. 12th ! I am so excited and ready for this. While at my appointment today, I met a real nice woman named Kirsten who recently got the lapband herself. While waiting in the room, we were talking and she told me all about this forum. She told me how supportive and great it is, so i decided to join! I'm happy that i did. I will be having my surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston, Mass. Hopefully she will read this post - Thanks again!!

    February 2007 bandsters!

I went to my final appointment yesterday. I was told it would be a 30 min appointment w/ the surgeon but it ended up being alittle over 2 hours! First, I had to go in a small meeting room and there were 2 other people who are also getting the lapband. The surgeon and an army doctor came in and explained everything, bascially went over the stuff we already knew from the information meetings. He asked if we had any questions, we asked a few. Then he took us back to the other room were the nutritionist and dr. offices were so he could meet with us individually and answer any questions we did not want to ask as a group. Of course i was last! lol. After they put me in one of the rooms, The army doctor came in and went over my chart asked a couple of questions and had me sign the consent forms. Shortly after the surgeon came in and we talked for abit and he went over my weight. I had gained weight over the holidays then the nurtitionist asked me to try to drop a couple pounds on the next vist (yesterday's visit) and i did, 8lbs to be exact! Needless to say, the doctor was very pleased! After that, The woman who schedules the surgery dates came in and said the next available date will be feb. 12th or the 14th. I chose the 12th not only because it's the earliest but because the 14th is my mom's birthday! She said he has 2 other surgery's booked on the 12th, but since mine is a lapband, he should be able to squeeze me in too. She said they'll sent me the information in the mail, dates, what i'm supposed to do, etc etc. AND i have one last appointment with the anaesthesiologist on feb 5th. I also mentioned that i will need a letter to take a LOA from work. I'm a Receptionist and he says i should be out for atleast a month!! My job is NOT going to like that, but i have a follow up in 3 wks and if i feel okay, He sad i can go back to work. Which i am hoping for! The surgeon said he has to submit a letter to my PCP and my insurance company for the final approval. I can't see coming THIS far and being denied. Though, while i was at my psych visit, she had a man hysterical on the phone because the insurance called and said they would -not- pay for his surgery the day BEFORE he was scheduled... This was after they had already approved him and everything. That was scary.. Well, that's my semi-long story! I'm excited like krazy :sing: :lost1.5lbs:
