Newbie hoping to be Banded in May
Kelsy replied to 2bhealthy2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Oh that is awesome, good luck! -
While i was in the hospital - My mom told me that the local news had a segment on Lap Band Sugery and they mentioned how it's becoming one of the "biggest it things" now.. HOWEVER, Insurance companies are getting sick of paying for them and want the person to go on a supervised diet w/ a nutritionist and all for ONE YEAR -before- they'll approve it. Tufts Insurance has already began to enforce this new rule.. Has anyone else heard about this??
-
I was wondering about that.. Cause i was thinking well if you LOSE weight.. they may just say "you don't need it" . you know?
-
I did not intend on letting anyone other than my immediate&close family members know.. But that didn't happen, lol. For some reason i felt alittle embarassed and i wanted it to be this huge secret. I work with a lot of health care people - so i told a couple friends there and i figure they're going to see my lose weight and start asking.. I feel okay about it now, the ones who know have been very supportive. However, I don't plan on announcing it to EVERYONE.. MAYBE if people ask. Other than that.. I'll keep quite for the most part.

Hi Chris. I was banded in Boston @ BIDMC. My Surgeon is Dr. Schneider - He and his staff are great!! Here is a thread for BIDMC http://www.lapbandtalk.com/bidmc-t19339.html btw - i would not suggest Faulkner Hospital b/c their WLS program is very new and my PCP stressed she didn't want me going to a place just starting out. i dunno!

As the topic says.. I was banded on Feb.12th and so far i've been drinking Protein shakes, sf popsicles, Water and crystal light, That's all. I did have chicken broth in the hospital but it made me sick! maybe it was the brand.. or because the morphine had me very ill.. I dunno, I am not a fan of broth anyways. I received a packet explaining food to have on stage 3 such as - whipped cottage cheese, 1% milk, campbell tomatoe Soup, applesauce unsweetened, sf Jello, yogurt, oatmeal....etc. It doesn't say anything about pudding, can we have that?? I think i'm getting sick of these Protein drinks already! Does anyone eat those things ^^^ too, while on 3? How long does the Mushies stage last? And what are some of the basic foods you eat while on there? TIA! :hungry:

Kelsy replied to atlast1976's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi atlast. Nope, you're not being a baby at all. I found that to be the worst.. Pulling myself out of bed and it just pushed on my stomach. I use this armchair bed thingy right here and let me tell you. It helps me A LOT to get in and out of bed and pulling myself up and to even sleep! You should get one, if you don't already have one. Also, Are you sure you're supposed to swallow whole pills? I thought all pills had to be crushed. You should double check with that. Even my Vitamins are in liquid form, my doctors/nurses stressed not to take any whole pills, to crush them..hm. -
Hello Everyone! I'm back and banded Let me share my story. The Hospital called to tell me that the OR had an emergency that night and please do not come in yet and still do not eat or drink anything. I waited awhile because i was supposed to be there at 1130am and here it is almost 1230! I called back to ask what was going on and please don't cancel the appointment.. They said to come on in but 2 people are before me and he's just finishing the first person now. I went in w/ my mom and waited awhile. Then went to get prepped and the nurse was reallllllllly nice. She knew people we knew, etc lol. Finally it was almost 530pm and they were ready for me. My mouth was SO dry and i was so hungry! But i stuck it out. I woke up in recovery w/ really bad chest pains and i remember someone pushing on my chest before i went under.. Ughhh.. It hurt so bad! They did an EKG and it came back fine. The Sugeron told my mom i did great..everything went really well and i had hardly any blood loss! wooho! I was able to have a private room - which i did not request, but i found it much better! The next day i didn't feel too well, I kept feeling like i had to throw up and they gave me liquid tylenol and i vomited.. That happened late in the afternoon so they suggest i stay an extra night. And i did.. I found most of the trouble pulling my butt in and out of the hopsital bed. It hurt my stomach. I have 7 incisions!! Most are tiny..And the one below the port hurts really bad. It's swollen and very sensative. I also have backpain from sitting too long and i have not been exercising because of the pain. I want to take it easy first.. I've been getting my 60g of protein in a day and i'm not hungry!!! I just missing wanting to eat food. sounds weird eh? lol - I also am having the gas pains in my chest.. They HURT when they come, but i've been using the Gas-X strips. They NP did not even know Gas-X came in strips.. i suggest getting those! My family has been GREAT and so supportive. I use one of those pillows w/ the arm rests, let me tell you... it helps me so much to sleep at night! Especially since i love to sleep on my stomach and HATE sleeping on my back. I just put one pillow behind it and one further up near the head and it's very comfortable. Everyone at the hospital and home have said i look good and said i am moving around quite well. I've been climbing the stairs in the house and doing small things here and there. I am very happy w/ my decision to get this lapband! OH! And my parents brought me this get well soon stuff too. 2 balloons, 2 pairs of slipper socks (which i loooove!) a fleece blanket, a card and teddy bear! <333

Kelsy replied to timeforchange's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi! Yes, I am actually just a little nervous.. Not as much as i thought i would be. I think i'll have a panic attack at the hosptial tomorrow, lol. But they said they'll put an anxiety med in the iv so it will make me calm before going into the surgery. I need to throw my water bottle in the fridge before i forget and drink it in the morning! My time is scheduled for 1:30pm EST.. I don't think he'll be "fresh" like yours lol. But he better be! haha. I hope i'll be able to get some sleep tonight..yikes! Good luck!!!! Keep me posted as well -
Tomorrow is my day!! I am so excited and a tiny bit nervous! I wish i was being done early in the morning, mine is not til in the afternoon.

Hey!! I'm scheduled for this Monday. I can't wait!! And i'm also in Boston. Which hospital are you being banded at? -
WOW!! CONGRATS! I hope you get your date ASAP! Monday is my date...! I think i'm going to be so nervous the night before ~
-
Thanks for the replies and stuff. I know my doc just said that it's best to have my liver as small as possible so the surgery will go better. I feel like i've been eating the last supper everyday.. ugh!! I can't stop the feeling hungry. 10 days til surgery - woohoo! I want to get into a size 10-12 ! That's my goal - I have big bones! Tracy am i reading correctly, Are you approved????
-
Why does it seem like i am the only person who wasn't told to go on a liquid diet of sorts before surgery??? My date is on the 12th. How long is everyone on a diet for ? days before or weeks before??
-
I just turned 27 in December. I don't think you're too young.. In fact, I wish i could have had the band done when i was 21 !
-
My doctor suggests 3-4 weeks off. I put in for that time off from work. During my f/u appointment, if i'm doing okay... I can go back. I really don't mind the time off because i'll be over my liquids stage and it'll be easier to adapt.
-
Hi Mystic, Of course you're not intruding.. I have not have the procedure done either. Not yet anyways! But there are a lot of people on here (myself included) filling ourselves with knowledge from those who have had it done! Insurance won't cover it?
-
Wow! what a difference!! you look great, keep up the good work
-
haha! yeahh! I am so excited.. ! I keep reading this forum like it's crack. I recieved a letter from my insurance company today; i almost didn't open it... But i finally did and it said i was approved! Sooo, I am feeling a lot more at ease right now, lol.

First Consult is Tomorrow!
Kelsy replied to TracyinKS's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sheeesh... That's a lot of questions! I had some tricky ones but then she added them up in front of me using a calculator.. I kept waiting to see what she wrote and then i saw the word "NORMAL" ... wooho! lol -
Hi Dixie I guess it all depends on your medical history. I had to have an ultrasound (which i think everyone has to have), A breathing test (because of a history w/ asthma - i don't think everyone goes for the breathing test.), EKG, Labs, Psych eval, Nutritionist & MD appointment where he will just do a small check up... And i think that was it. If you go to the homepage on this forum and see where it says "most viewed threads" you'll see the Before and After pictures there or here is the link. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/before-and-after-t4642.html?t=4642
