How many incisions did you wind up with after surgery?
Kelsy replied to JennyC724's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have 7 of them too! : ( -
Did anyone else feel like this before surgery?
Kelsy replied to AudreyG's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh yessss! It took a few months to lose this weight. I've really been working at it. In the beginning I was iffy about the exercise because I hate exercising! Now I make sure I exercise EVERY day. It's so weird how your mind will totally change and some healthy things that never mattered before will all of a sudden become this priority! Haha! That is awesome.. I came here asking 29039949 questions before my surgery! Are you excited?! Tomorrow is your big day! -
This was one of the first questions I asked myself. There is so much Pasta being cooked in my big family, you'd think we were all Italian. It's one of my FAVORITE foods ever.. And since being on the last and final stage I HAVE eaten pasta without any problems. I just eat a smaller portion of it. I also notice my cravings/taste for certain things have not changed either. But like someone said up top.. Only ONE or TWO Cookies will do - I don't want a dozen either, Like I would have before.

Did anyone else feel like this before surgery?

Hi Audrey! (I love your name) It's totally normal to feel scared or nervous! Do not let anyone's negative attitudes make you frustrated. You're about to go through a life changing ordeal and you need SUPPORT! Not "Oh wells" or whateva. I wish I was 18 when I got it done, If I could have had it done years ago.. I would have. I actually had a co-worker tell me I was too young to get it. I'm like HELLOOOOOOO, I'll be 30 in a few years. How old do you think I should be, 50?? I was scared as all hell about this.. Not really the challenge of it, but because I was afraid I wouldn't wake up from the surgery or something. HOWEVER, The morning of the surgery.. I was suprisingly CALM as all can be. My mom was so shocked at how relaxed I was (this was BEFORE those anti-anxity meds). You will be nice and high and calm before you go in! I also had never had surgery before and it was tough the first couple days in the hospital just lifting myself out of the bed and feeling the pain. But after about the first week, I was already feeling great! I do not have ANY regrets. And once you start to lose the weight and can see/feel the difference.. You will feel like a whole new person. I am happy for you! You will do just fine!! Good luck and keep us posted on your progress : ) -
Up 2lbs!!! - is this usual?!
Kelsy replied to jammy117's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is why I only weigh myself at my doctor appointments.. Probably not the BEST decision for all, But my clothes are feeling loose and I am working out and just feel great. I don't want to get depressed If I do not see the scale move. I can see the weight coming off slowly - like it should and am fine with that for now. The nutritionist was thrilled that I don't weigh myself at home. She said she wished more people would do that to keep from getting discouraged. However! That is normal. One woman at the appointment said she keeps going up and down with 3 lbs. -
P.S. The cereal bars have 10g of protein!
-
I actually really like the cereal bars they make. The chocolate and peanut butter.. I have one every morning at work and it's filling! I haven't tried the cookies, but i did have the caesar chicken wrap and only ate 1 of the 2 in the box. It wasn't too bad either.

I have a lot of hair, thick hair too and i notice that some of it is falling out. Not in clumps or anything, but in the shower or my brush.. even running my fingers through takes out a few strands. However, I am in desperate need to get my hair cut, it hasn't been cut since before my surgery.. We'll see if that will help it any, I sure hope so! BTW: I put some pix in the before and after thread - I can't believe the difference in my face.

newbie and just starting process
Kelsy replied to sunshine6855's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think your thoughts and questions are normal. I think this is sort of a last resort for people who have tried thousands of different weight loss diets that didn't work. Like you said yourself, if those diets worked, would you be here right now? It's something I do NOT regret doing, I feel better... I'm starting to look better. It's a wonderful thing. Good luck Sunny! -
I can't wait to get a second fill.
-
hihihih! Welcome : ) Good luck on getting insurance approval! Hopefully they don't take too long with their decision to approve you. This is a REALLY good place to be if you don't know anyone in person who has had this type of surgery.

I AM NOT LOSING - after 3 fills
Kelsy replied to Magilla's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
<p>Have you been exercising?</p> <p> </p> <p>I do take a couple of sips of Water after I eat.. Even though we're told to wait atleast 30 minutes before drinking beverages. A few sips will not hurt.</p> <p> </p> <p>I only weigh myself at the doctors so i really don't know if i've lost more or not but I do know that the WATER and EXERCISE had been a MAJOR factor in losing my weight. I feel like I do need another fill because I still feel hungry too shortly after eating.. But I make sure to keep my portions small. </p> <p> </p> <p>I'm not a fan of veggies to be honest, but I love fruit. I need to eat more of it. </p> <p> </p> <p>Do you drink any Protein drinks too? </p> <p> </p> <p>I find that eating string cheese and having a Protein Drink throughout the day holds me over in most cases.</p> <p> </p> <p>Good luck ladies.</p> P.S. .. It's hard to get all that water in .. in one day. And i found that drinking it from one of the "sport drinks" type bottles makes it soooo much easier to get those 64oz in. If i drink water from a glass or regular/normal water bottle.. I do poorly on keeping up. That's just a suggestion and the water helps keep your stomach full! -
They should have had Barry Gibb eariler in the show. I still want Jordin to win it. & Hopefully.. Lakeshia goes home tonight.

Before and After Lap Band Surgery - PICTURES ONLY
Kelsy replied to DeLarla's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
These are my before and after pics. I never took full body shots... But I am sure you can tell how big I was from the top pic alone. I also want to mention that i'm almost 5'10.. And I haven't been able to wear those jean capri's in the bottom pic for YEARS and YEARS. BEFORE: & AFTER: -
I had to go to a funeral today, but i plan on calling my doctors office tomorrow because i really feel like i need a fill. I am just not feeling as full as i used to. I'm still exercising and drinking lots of Water, but I don't know! I am in a size 18/20. So that's a good thing.. Down 2 sizes.

I was wondering how many miles you exercise daily? Is it walking/running/jogging outside or inside on a treadmill? Do you use a bike? When you exercise on a treadmil or bike, Which do you focus on more? the time/carlories/miles ? I was told to go slow at first, Don't try to push for A LOT right off the bat. Because If I get to a standstill, I might try to kill myself to go that extra mile or two.
-
I think Chris is gone too.. I want either Jordin or Blake to win. They can all bascially get record deals at this point.. but i think either of those 2 will do good as an "american idol winner". Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood were both young and did great. WTH ever happened to Taylor?
-
Awesome, awesome. I've been doing 3 miles on the bike, I feel I can do more.. But I don't want to push it just yet. I can really feel it in the back of my legs when I am done. The first time I did the bike.... My legs felt like noodles when I got off it, lol. Plus walking outside for 20 minutes. ** And nothing to do with miles, but I'm lifting 10lb weights and using a thigh squeezer thing for a count of 35 with holding it for 3 seconds each squeeze.

I've been taking.... Flintstone complete chewable Vitamins Bariatic Advantage passion fruit flavored chewable Iron (which i bought online) And Viactiv chocolate calcium vitamins. *** My nutritionist said to be sure to take the iron in the day and calcium at night (or vice versa) just not at the same time. They compete for the same thing or something. Not explaining that good.. But they would cancel each other out.. basically.

Thanks for the info on fills... Man, I really think I need another. I notice I was almost going to throw up all the water i've been drinking. I am trying to get in my 6 .. 9oz bottles a day - but it's been hard. I've been eating pretty much the same stuff everyday.... Dunkin Donuts Tea (skim milk, 2 equals) A south beach cereal bar (10 grams of protein per bar) Carnation Protein drink 1 stick of String Cheese Campbell's cup of soup on the go (chicken and stars or chicken mini noodles) Another Carnation protein drink. Wheat thins Dinner always varies... Mostly it's been chicken. Pudding Water, water, water. Is this bad???? I am sticking to NOT weighing myself until my next appointment too.

I didn't have to do blood work or anything the day before. I ended up staying 2 nights. But that is only because my surgery time was pushed back til almost 6pm (cause of an emergency not related to WLS). And by the time i was done, I just remember seeing CSI Miami on TV and that comes on at 10pm. So anyhow.. I was told I need to be there atleast 24hrs. I stayed until 6pm - Took some liquid tylenol and threw it up. They just decided since it was late and I threw up (which can happen) to stay another day.

Does he have any children of his own? I don't think you are wrong in wanting him to adopt your daughter. It's a big decision.. But if he's so against it, Is it really a good idea to push the subject? Marriage is supposed to be FOREVER. But nowadays, It's just not like that in SOME cases. Maybe he feels like he will be tied to you forever if the marriage doesn't work out... It sounds more like he's afraid. I am sure he loves your child, like you said he does.. But that is a big BIG decision for someone to make.
-
I wonder if i have to WAIT to get another fill.... My next appointment isn't until the end of June. I don't feel that restricted. Has anyone gone back to drinking liquids for a few days on their own??

Do you take Iron pills? I do and that is the main cause of constipation for me. Certain iron pills you can take without being constipated.. However, that is my main problem.. Though it's not so bad anymore.
