Post Op Changes.... Meal Time Is No Longer A Delight
doggz109 replied to andkel30's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The mental part of this is MUCH harder than anything physical. It takes mental effort to push away that food when you are satisfied and not keep pushing until you feel stuffed. It's difficult dealing with that fact that you can only have 5-6 bites of something that tastes good and thats it. However, its doable. Its worth it.....and I wouldn't trade the health benefits for any food. -
Just Saw My Post-Op Diet
doggz109 replied to esheldon76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try doing a month long liquid diet with a normal sized stomach + ghrelin. See how well that works for you. Trust your doc and trust the process. It works if you do what you are supposed to do. -
Need Help - Not Getting In Enough Calories!
doggz109 replied to JayhawkJess33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
300-500 is plenty good at 2 weeks post op. You aren't stalling due to caloric deficit.....you are stalling because you had major surgery and your body needs time to figure out what is going on. Almost all patients experience a 2-3 week post op stall that can last awhile. It's normal. I've been eating 600-800 calories a day and I am 3 months out. No need to up your calories while in the weight loss stage....especially this early out. -

We got fat because meal time was a delight. Eating is simply a daily requirement like brushing your teeth now. Get used to it. -

Your step daughter will be needing her own sleeve in a few years if she keeps going like that. -
Do The Stomach Staples Stay In The New Sleeve?
doggz109 replied to lisalalani's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Staples stay in you for life. They are titanium and do not mess with metal detectors or cause problems. They are covered over by scar tissue. The staple line will actually heal back stronger than your original stomach tissue. Finally.....all WLS procedures (RNY, sleeve, DS, etc) use staples. It's not just the sleeve....so if staples were going to cause problems we would have heard about it. -
3 Months Post Op And Only 45Lbs Down.
doggz109 replied to Bcole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
15 lbs a month is slow? Attitude adjustment.....you are losing perfectly fine. Keep up the good work. -
Take your time man. At six week its no wonder that soup and yogurt is what feels good because that is what your stomach can handle right now. You are trying to rush it. You put chicken and other dense foods into it....its saying...WTF...stop. Listen to your body.

There is no honeymoon period. What happens is people are GUNG HO about the surgery for 3-6 months post op and then slowly return to their old habits and wonder why their weight loss slows. There is also the issue that as you lose weight.....the amount of calories you need goes down as well. If people don't make that adjustment....their loss will slow or stall. Be consistent in your efforts and switch up your routine.

You are REALLY close to the cut off for many surgeons. My surgeon will not perform this surgery on anyone with a BMI under 35. Also....most insurance companies won't cover it either. If you want to go to Mexico and are self pay you can probably get it done.

Experiences After Immediately Waking Up? Comment Please..
doggz109 replied to Anewlifeforme23's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was talking to the OR staff and next thing I know I was waking up in my room. 4 hours had passed. My wife said I was talking gibberish in recovery and I have no recollection of it. I had very little pain and the pain I had was easily taken care of by the pump. I had mild nausea but nothing bad (the worse was the foul tasting stuff they make you drink for a leak test....now THAT was nauseating....ask for some drugs before doing that if necessary). I couldn't pee for about 24 hours post op.....I had no catheter and I had the urge....but my lower body was not functioning right and it took awhile to wake everything back up (this is normal). Ummm what else.....I walked a BUNCH and it helped. I think I had a very very easy recovery. -
Up'd My Calories And Lost 4 Pounds In 5 Days!
doggz109 replied to SweetP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's the CHANGE....not necessarily the amount. Eventually you will stall at 1000 cals too.....so switch up again! Your body wants to stay stable...so when you change it up....it throw it off balance and you get results. Same thing works with exercise......gains are made when you feel uncomfortable...not when you can methodically plod away on the treadmill for 60 mins. -
Plain Ice Cold Water Sounds So Good But.....
doggz109 replied to EmilyIsSleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The PH of your stomach has changed after surgery. It's very common....this is why people have issues with plain Water and need to add "something" like Crystal Light or tea or what not so that they can stand it. It might change in time or it might not. -
What'a Your Favorite Sweet Treat/
doggz109 replied to kayte819's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm surprised your doc recommended those calcium chews. They are calcium carbonate.....not well absorbed by sleeve patients. You need calcium citrate. Find a new chew. -
Just like a heroin addict that wants to go back to their drug......don't do it.
