  1. When is your class? That might be motivation enough for me to go!

    Bruised but not Broken

From the looks of those pictures.....you both are lucky to be alive and its almost a MIRACLE that there were no severe injuries. Glad you both are ok. I guess seatbelts and airbags do save lives eh?
  3. The PPI should help you. Also - hiccups are generally a sign that you ate/drank too fast or too much.
  4. It WILL NOT help with post surgical gas (meaning the gas they fill up your abdomen with during surgery). This gas just needs to work itself out of your system and the best way to do that is to be up and active (walking, etc). Gas X WILL help with any gas you have in your stomach/intestinal track from food, Protein shakes, etc.
  5. You are definitely upping your risk for a blood clot. Also - 2 weeks out you are still in the "danger" zone for potential complications......stricture, leaks, ulcer, clots, etc. I would be really nervous about being so far away from my doctor that knows what is going on. Have fun!
  6. If its so close why not just have your surgeon put 50 even? Insurance is very strict....if they say you need 50 and you have 49.9999998.....you will be denied.

    Sleeve around your stomach ?

The sleeve is your stomach. They permanently remove 85% of your stomach.

    Blue Shield Ca.--

Interesting......I've heard that Blue Shield CA is actually very easy to get approved at. I am switching to them Sept 1st.

    the wife...jealous

If she says she will leave you now if you simply have the surgery..........which will be life saving to you.....then seriously....tell her to take a flying leap. If she won't even wait until AFTER you have it to see how it affects your relationship then who needs it. BTW.....threatening to leave if you get the surgery is just emotional blackmail. She has issues....you need to decide if she is worth working those issues out with because it is going to be tough.
  11. If your deductible is 10k, then you are basically paying for the surgery out of pocket because most VSG's are not much more than that in the USA. I would recommend doing your research and going to the one of the reputable surgeons in Mexico. They do HUNDREDS of these surgeries and can probably do it in their sleep. It's not as drastic as you might think and you will save quite a bit of money.
  12. This makes no sense? Why would they put a band in you and then revise to a sleeve within a few months? If they can go in and do a band....they can go do a sleeve. You need to go through the appeals process with your insurance company. Most will now cover the sleeve.

    Day2 PreOp Not going well

If your liver is still enlarged at the time of surgery it makes it MUCH riskier. The entire purpose of the pre op diet is to shrink it so its easier to retract during surgery (they have to pull it back because the stomach is under the liver). A larger fatty liver is much harder to pull back safely and avoid nicking it or your spleen. Keep these things in mind when you feel like cheating.....you are upping your chances for complications.

    Isopure

Isopure + is MUCH MUCH MUCH better than the regular Isopure. Give it a shot. It comes in fruit punch or grape. It does not have the slimy flavor of the regular Isopure.

    My Mexico Sleeve Story

Glad your surgery went fine and you made it back ok! I do have to say though......Dr. Almanza and Jerusalem Hospital have NOT been seen in a very good light lately. There are some pretty scathing reviews/complaints of that practice over on OH.

    Student Loans

Except you are wrong. Google student loan fraud and you get thousands of pages about it. Here is one example: http://savannahnow.com/latest-news/2011-07-13/savannah-trio-indicted-federal-student-loan-fraud-case You are right that there are no "student loan" police that are checking out what every dollar is spent on. But the fine print of every loan document will say that the money is to be spent on educational expenses only. That includes tuition, books, housing, food, and possible transportation. Surgery or other medical expenses are not included in that. So basically it is not allowed - but if you don't get caught its ok. I guess some people feel its ok to go through life living by that code. Not me. To each their own.

    Imurance is switching!

Why do you have to do the six month supervised diet with Health Net? I have them also and that is not a requirement for the sleeve. Go look up their National Medical Policy - they no longer require a six month supervised diet for any WLS. Yep - just checked to be sure. Their National Medical Policy was updated in Sept 2010 to no longer require participation in a supervised diet program prior to approval. Your doctor might require it, but Health Net does not. The only requirements for a sleeve from Health Net are: BMI higher than 40 OR BMI higher than 35 with a severe co morbidity. Less than 65 years of age. You must be able to show them that a gastric band (lap band) or a gastric bypass will not be appropriate for you (ie...stomach/bowel issues, taking anti inflammatory meds, etc). That's it. No supervised diet.

    Scared! At ER :(

That sounds like gout to me.

THE MORE I TRY TO EAT RIGHT

No one likes to be told that "all they have to do is eat right and walk a bit" and they will lose weight. If that is all we had to do we wouldn't have needed surgery.

    Losing too much too fast

I am not sleeved yet but I would say this is common post op - especially if you are still on a liquid diet. A lot of people say they felt weak and tired until they were finally able to move into puree or more solid real food and then they really started to feel more normal again. if it is bothering you or you even have the thought that something is wrong (fever, not keeping fluids down, etc) - your surgeon office is only a phone call away.
  21. Good to be prepared....but your tastes might change quite a bit after surgery as well.
  22. I was under the impression that you didn't have to do a bowel prep for a VSG because they aren't doing anything to your intestines. Guess you learn something new every day!
