  1. That's probably it. My surgeon makes you go on clears 24 hours before surgery. Probably not a good thing that you ate the night before surgery.
  2. Choose RNY if you want to gain back most of your weight after 2-3 years. I'm serious. The caloric malabsorption goes away after a few years. You are then left with a blind stomach pumping you full of ghrelin while you have no malabsorption. You then are dependent on restriction only at that point. No thanks. You couldn't pay me 1,000,000 to do an RNY and I am serious.

    Drinking With Meals

Great ideas with the dipping sauce.

    Drinking With Meals

Yes, this is a forever thing.....as in the rest of your life. You should stop around 10 mins before eating. No drinking during the meal......and no drinking for at least 30-45 mins after eating. This is for two reasons. 1. It takes up valuable room you need for food. It will also likely make you feel sick. 2. If you drink after eating - your pylorus does not close as well and the liquid helps to flush it through your stomach faster. This means you will be hungry sooner. If you want to feel restriction and benefit from it.....follow these rules. You will have to give up things that are too dry or spicy to be eaten without drinking. Sorry to be blunt...but its the truth.
  5. The issue for you right now is that you are on a business trip and can't really save the food. When you are home and go to eat out its not going to be that bad. You can order an appetizer or a favorite entree and then take 2/3s of it home for some more meals! It actually will make eating out cheaper. Also - I noticed you live in Harrison, Arkansas. Small world.....I lived there when I was 4-6 years old. My mom worked with the govt on something with the Buffalo River at that time. I don't remember much except my neighbor grew a lot of weed on his property and there was a raid one day. LOL. Is there still a place called Dogpatch USA? Like a theme park? Fuzzy memories of that too.
  6. That is very similar to what my doctor does. Who is your surgeon?
  7. I am going in on January 12. It's about time. EDIT: Haha I just realized this is a year old necro thread. Is there a Jan 2012 thread?
  8. Yes its completely normal. It is caused by 2 things. Your body adjusting to a new weight and sudden weight loss. Also - when you move from liquids to puree or "mushy" food there is usually a stall associated with that. Just keep plugging along and the scale will move.
  9. What happens to your skin is based on previous lifestyle (smoking, drug use, sun exposure, etc) and genetics. That's it. There is no magic cure. However, you can definitely maximize what it is able to do by keeping hydrated and incorporating a regular exercise routine. But - if you started with some bad skin.....its not going to bounce back. Sorry. This is what keeps plastic surgeons in business.
  10. Isopure Plus is MUCH different than regular Isopure. It's much better and easier to drink. They only have two flavors though.....alpine punch and grape. You can order it on amazon.com.
  11. 9g of protein.....to go along with 13g of sugar. Not bad as a treat I guess.....but hopefully you aren't making this a regular part of your diet.
  12. Hi Chelle - its up to you to decide if you need surgery. However, you are a bit of a light weight (BMI 37). You will likely have a very difficult time getting approved by your insurance company at that weight unless you have some significant co morbidities. Of course that is all out the window if you are self pay - in that case....you just need to be over a 35 which is the cut off or go to Mexico.

    25g Protein

    No, that is not true.
  14. Exactly - the protein shots are worthless. We need whey as stated many times above. The protein shots have collagen which is missing several essential amino acids and is poorly absorbed by the body.
  15. Awesome.....I'm getting sleeved in early January down in Burlingame. Maybe we will get the same day.
  16. Right on! I see you are in NorCal....where are you having surgery?
  17. I don't know about you but I plan to have Thanksgiving next year as well. I don't plan on dying anytime this year...I hope! The whole food funeral thing is soooooooo overrated. You can still have ALL the things you like at Thanksgiving next year....just in MUCH smaller quantities. The good thing is that you will be satisfied with that amount. Not healthy to look at holidays as times to binge and that this is your "last" time doing it. Just my two cents.
  18. This surgery WILL NOT correct or fix ANY eating disorder because they are a mental issue. You need therapy....not surgery at this time. These types of things are why they make you pass a psych evaluation prior to surgery.
  19. Yep 25-30 grams at one time IF you didn't just exercise or really tax your muscles. There is a window of time (about 45 mins - 1hour) after intense exercise/weight lifting that your body will basically use all the Protein you can pump into it.....to repair muscles, etc. This is the main reason why things like Muscle Milk exist.
  20. As long as you are meeting your Protein requirements - I don't see the problem. Just be careful with what carbs you are eating. Really no reason for anyone to eat things like bread....our bodies aren't even made to process it that well. About gout.....I have suffered with it for several years. There are maintenance medications that you can take that are very effective (and cheap). I am currently taking allopurinol (300mg, 1 time per day) and I haven't had a single gout attack in almost 2 years no matter what I eat/drink. The prescription only costs 12 bucks a month even without insurance. If you can tolerate it, I strongly recommend it. I was having attacks every 2 months or so without it. Also - contrary to popular belief.....gout isn't entirely caused by your diet. Most of the time people with gout have problems ELIMINATING uric acid. It's due to your kidney not being as efficient at getting rid of the acid. Now yes, some people just get it because they eat lots of meat and drink lots of beer. Other people (like me) will get it even with an almost vegetarian diet....so sometimes you just get it and not much you can do. It's genetic....like it seems to be in your case. Look into the meds.....it will help.
  21. 4 days is nothing and definitely not a stall. Keep off the scale....you will be much happier.
  22. One thing to keep in mind......bougie size is not everything. Surgical skill is a MAJOR factor in determining the end size of your sleeve. It takes A LOT of skill to get a tight 32 sleeve and to have it well shaped with no complications. If your doctor recommends a particular size.....I honestly would go with that one.....or find a different doctor. Don't negotiate size. They are doing that size for a reason and it might be because that is the smallest they feel comfortable doing. Also, not all sizes are the same. There are surgical techniques that can be used (oversewing, etc) that can make a 36 or 38 hold the same volume as a "loose" 32.

    Gastric Sleeve Surgery Denied!

What was their stated reason for denial? Insurance is in the business to make money and these surgeries are expensive....so yes they will look for ANY reason to deny it. My first insurance company denied me twice and then my company switched insurance. The new company approved me in less than ten days and nothing had changed. It might be beneficial to have a new insurance company.
  24. You will be ok!!!!! I am going to be sleeved in January so I don't have any post op advice to share...but I think you are doing the right thing. I have been researching this procedure over 1 year and have seen TONS of stories and seen people go through their surgery and first year in that time and what they went through. Let me tell you this.....you WILL get buyers remorse. Almost everyone does the first few days out. Then you start healing, you start getting the hang of your new eating, and you improve nearly every day. You also WILL lose weight if you follow your surgeons plan. Just trust that they know what they are talking about. I saw your post OH and you have Dr. Cirangle? He is probably one of the best surgeons in CA, if not the entire US. You are in very capable hands with him. His post op plan and support is also top notch. You couldn't ask for a better doctor and program. I'm not going to sugar coat it though.....it will be tough and you will have moments of doubt....but I have yet to see a single long term sleever REGRET this operation. In the short term...yeah lots of people are pissed and wonder what they did....but long term it works out. The sleeve is also likely the safest WLS procedure you can do....IMO. Better chance of success than the crap band, and with less side effects than an RNY or DS.
