    Drinking While Eating

You cannot drink until at least 30 min - 1 hour after eating a solid meal. It's just the way it is and it is for life. This is definitely something your surgeon or program should have gone over with you. EDIT: I just saw what doctor you went to.....so yeah. Sorry.
  2. Yep Jim.....he is like up in the 300s like 360 or so lbs lost. The VSG can pretty much get whatever weight off that you need. It's all up the person.
  3. Thats not true either. Gotta love nutritionists spreading misinformation.
  4. I had one the day after surgery....and have gone pretty much every other day since.
  5. I didn't take them. The pain was only moderate and manageable. The side effects of the pain meds would have been worse to deal with.
  6. Yep. Take an equal portion of regular non-fat yogurt and regular non-fat greek yogurt. The greek yogurt will have nearly double the protein and half the sugar. It also (to me anyways) is much more rich and creamy and pleasant. The only downside is the somewhat tart flavor (this is because they remove a lot of the lactose (milk sugar) and some whey). That can be remedied with flavored sugar free toppings, protein powders, dip packets, and later on some blended real fruit. It truly is a wonderful food. Greek yogurt is also often better tolerated by those with lactose intolerance because it has much less lactose.
  7. That's not entirely correct. Your body can use more than 30g in an hour. It can only use around that much (approx) for muscle growth/repair. The remainder is converted to glucose and used for energy or if not used....is turned into fat. The extra protein is not wasted.....just not as useful.

    From Full To Empty!

Once the swelling subsides you can drink and drink and drink. You should feel no restriction or fullness when drinking liquids....unless you are gulping. Otherwise it will drain out of your sleeve almost as fast as you are drinking/sipping.
  9. 60-80g of protein a day is NOT that much. It's pretty moderate actually.

    Too Full Again...............

You will not feel "full" at all while still on liquids.....they leave your sleeve almost immediately. Once you start on mushy or solid foods you can start to determine what "full" is for you. Always measure your food undereat your sleeve.....don't rely on feeling full or restriction.
  11. Try a savory version. Add Hidden Valley ranch dip packet.....it tastes just like dip....but with an awesome protein kick!
  12. Protein is absolutely the MOST important macronutrient in your body. It is necessary for your body to function. Want to know what happens without it? Your muscles (including your heart) atrophy and die. Wounds don't heal. You become severely fatigued. Eventually you will die. That is what it is doing for you. Eat/drink your protein. It is essential. If you are constipated....there are other ways around that including getting enough fluids.

    Food Got Stuck

Yep that was the "slimes" or "foamies". The food never went into your stomach....it was stuck at the top of your sleeve/esophagus. The "foam" is phlem and saliva that backs up because it has nowhere to go. You are actually constantly swallowing saliva, phlem, sinus secretions, etc. When food "plugs" the entrance to your stomach that stuff backs up until the spasms in your esophagus are able to hack the item back up. Essentially...yes. The yolk was either too dry, too big/not chewed well, or your digestive system is just not ready for it.
  14. You are doing well. I just personally think your NUT is very mis guided. Bread is a "never again" food for some people and is generally not tolerated well until several months out. It definitely does not belong on a "soft foods" list.
  15. That is insane that your surgeon allows bread on "soft" foods. Wow....just wow. Good luck with that.

    So...

You could die from any surgery. Making sure your will and advance directive is up to date is just being responsible.

    Severe Shoulder Pain

Don't let some nurse dictate your treatment. You could die from a leak. Just keep an eye on it. There maybe some accuracy that it is acid reflux if it is occuring after you eat. If it was a leak the pain would likely be constant and get worse over time. Just be careful and if you feel you have a leak....go to the ER. Don't wait for permission from your surgeon's office.

    Vegatables

Be careful with soup. Not a good idea to eat liquid and solids at the same time.
  19. Carbs are ok.....so long as they are vegetable carbs. There really is no reason to go back to eating things like bread, rice, and definitely no sugar. The occaisonal bit of fruit might be ok depending on the person.

    In The Mood

Now that's what I am talkin bout.....
  21. You have hit the wall. You need to start exercising. If you are already exercising.......bump it up or change your routine. This surgery will not take the weight off for you.

    Protein Powder

Let me recommend something to you. Everyone has different tastes and likes. Most Protein "mix" manufacturers will send you sample packs. Syntrax, unjury, Chike, etc.....will all send you sample packs. Some charge a fee for each packet and you can pick and choose.....others just make you pay for shipping. This way you can not only sample the different brands....but also the flavors within them. Then when you find a flavor or two that you love.....you can save money by order a large tub of it.

    Can Not Stop Eating

Just remember......any weight you gain now you will just have to take off later. A year from now when you are struggling mightily to get off that last 20 lbs.....you might regret all this eating. Also.....many doctors WILL not do surgery on someone who gained weight during the pre op process. It does not show a change in the mental state needed for success after surgery.
