Skipping Meals / Drinking & Eating
Bornagainbabe replied to PurricanChick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not so bad drinking before a meal although I rarely do unless I am out somewhere, but, drinking with and directly after a meal is a big no no for me and just makes me vomit. I wait at least half an hour and then I take sips at first as gulping it down at any time only makes me burp and retch as well. -
It won't! After 6.5 months it will be mindblowing and the earth WILL move! Can't really offer any anatomical (?) advice I think you are just stressing with nerves now. Relax and look forward. I shan't throw in any jokes or innuendo as I know it's a serious concern for you. Helesnxxxx

Hmmm - peace and quiet!

Who suffers from dizziness, mostly after standing after bending down or sitting, and what do you do to alleviate it? Does frequent hydration help or is it more to do with sugars/carbs etc.?
-
I have never ever suffered from high BP before so I would be very shocked if it is that for me. I have a feeling it's more to do with lack of fluids. I googled it earlier and that can be a cause of dizziness in WLS patients. It's driven me mad today as I work in a school with 5 year olds and every time I have bent down or got to their level I have been really dizzy on standing up!

On a positive note, what comforted you most during your hospital stay?

My ipod touch on which I watched films at night when I couldn't sleep lol! -
Right! I have made a joke of it but it is a serious issue that is concerning me somewhat. I think I know the answer to my problems but would welcome some input on this. Since my op in July, I, unlike most other sleevesters, do not get any clear signals of when to stop eating. I don't feel full until it really is too late. I quite often keep going wondering to myself if I am feeling full or should be feeling full. I mean this has been my problem all my life because before I had bariatric surgery I could easily keep eating way past when I was feeling full or should have been. Do you know what I mean? Anyway, just recently, after eating I am feeling really rough. I feel shaky all over and it feels like my heart is racing. I don't get it after drinking and I don't get it if I just have a biscuit, for example, so I am certain that it is a quantity issue and just need someone to clarify that for me or confirm that that is the case. It may be that I am being too adventurous in what I am eating as well, although most of what I eat is still accompanied with a sauce of some sort in order to help it go down. Yesterday we took our daughter back up to uni and stopped for lunch and I didn't order a meal as it was a waste, but, I did have a few bites from my family's meals and that included a couple of fries, onion rings and breaded mushrooms. I felt fine at the time I was eating and even had a bit of apple crumble with some cream (only a very small amount), but, after we came out and got in the car I felt terrible and it lasted for about an hour afterwards. My heart seemed to be really racing and I felt so shaky and awful that I couldn't sit or stand or anything. In the end we had to find a supermarket so I could go in the toilets to be sick. I was sick there and then later on I was sick again into a bag in the car (family were not impressed at that!). Now,I am convinced that I overdid it and ate the wrong things , you know, they just didn't agree with me and maybe it was too early to try them, but, I had no warning of feeling full at all. I felt fine until I said to myself that maybe I should stop eating at this point! I didn't physically feel full at all. I just don't seem to get the signals that other people here talk about having. I have an appetite most of the time and crave stuff and can physically stuff myself. 'I' have to tell myself not to eat, not my body. It's weird. I have just had my lunch now and I have had to make myself stop eating just in case I feel awful after. I have only had a very small amount of cottage pie with gravy and whilst I generally feel ok I didn't feel too brilliant after I had finsished and was worried that I was going to end up feeling really ill again. Is it the food I am eating, dairy, processed, carbs....? I am not thick but am a bit confused at this point and it may be obvious to you so please help if you can. Thank you all Helenxxx

Shaking all over!!
Bornagainbabe replied to Bornagainbabe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good advice - thanks. Think I have been getting a bit complacent and not really concentrating on what I am eating. I shall weigh as well tonight rather than judge by eye and see if that helps! -

Well, further to my previous post, I guess you are all sitting there thinking I am pretty stupid...I had never researched dumping syndrome (until now) as it was never mentioned to me and I didn't consider it it at all with the sleeve. I never got any symptoms like this with the band either. However, I had had my suspicions over high fat/high sugar as it's occurred after eating, albeit in only very small quantities, these foods a couple of times and I have just read an earlier post on here citing high fat/sugar as being problematic. Appetite and quantity are still an issue for me, as are cravings for sweet foods, so I am now thinking that I need to talk to my dietician and get some advice. I didn't get all this with the band (still glad to be rid of it) and things just got 'stuck' whatever they were. Now I am finding that I really do have to think more carefully about my diet...and you lot have been telling me that all along and I haven't really been listening..... Helenxxxx -

I was talking to someone the other day about British food being bland...can't remember all the conversation now, but I suppose it was years ago when it was all meat and two veg. It's only in the last twenty years or so that we have become a bit more adventurous. I cannot pass comment on food from anywhere other than Europe as that's all I have sampled, apart from Chinese/Indian/Thai takeaways and McDonalds etc. lol! I'm not into all that muesli/granola type cereal stuff though - it's more useful in birdcages! -

Cheeky- Bill!!! Think it must be granola though! I'm not very familiar with it as I'm a chips and chocolate gal! I'm not offended but why do Americans think that food in the UK is not good? Just curious. Another one - what are/is grits? First came across that when I read 'The Grapes of Wrath' and still don't really understand what it is? -
I have had the occasional drink. Sometimes it goes down ok and sometimes it does burn a bit. Only have to have one glass of wine though and that's enough. It always weakens my resolve though and makes me want to snack so I try to avoid it although I had a big row with my husband last night and drank more than I should have and feel rotten today. It's best to limit it in my opinion and enjoy occasionally.

I agree. Just keep focussed, try to avoid all temptations and remember that by sticking to it you are helping your surgeon to carry out your surgery more safely and efficiently. Good luck! -
46lbs!!!!!!!!!! Wow! That is a result!

Well, mine did seem to improve a lot but has returned with a vengeance this week! I had to take some more anti-histamine tonight as I have been itching all over again. I haven't noticed any spots for a few days but I have been scratching all over again. It's really weird! Have you had the spots as well Cherry?

Same here!

Hi Austin, I'm a recent band to sleeve revisionist and don't get any acid reflux anymore. Mine was horrendous in that as well as having to sleep propped up, I would wake in the night and have to go and vomit. I still get a little bit of indigestion now but it's nothing like it used to be and I take a PPI which helps. You will find a lot of helpful advice here. This site is great!

I'm a compulsive worrier and I hate it! I agree with VA that it just does you no good at all but if you are that way then what can you do? I worry about everything and cannot relax until it is resolved which in some ways good in that I take action immediately as I know that I will only sit fretting otherwise and making myself ill. I get it from my parents and it is truly a burden. My husband is the complete opposite and if he was anymore laid back he would be dead...and it irritates me to Hell that he can sit and not worry about anything. So I do it for him lol! For a lot of things though it just does you no good and it's best to just try to chill out. Most things resolve themselves eventually...

That's brilliant Tiffy. It's a bit like avoiding those chairs in the doc's waiting room - the ones that attach themselves to your behind and and refuse to budge when you get up! Or, those chairs that are attached to the table where you just know that everyone is watching to see if you will manage to fit in. Nightmare!!! No longer for you though xxx

Good luck and see you on the other side! Love Helenxxx
