  1. The pain may come and go. I experienced off an on pain for over 6 months before the doctors ordered the ultrasound. I would get one done and try to solve the problem early. The earlier it is diagnosed the sooner you can start a treatment. Just remember surgeons operate and that is what they will want to do. Try medication first and use surgery as the last option.
  2. If it is your gall bladder try to eliminate it with medicine prior to having surgery unless it is in bad shape. There is a medication that has shown to be an effective treatment. It may take anywhere from 6 mos to 1 yr. Now that you are sleeved your diet should not consist of the amount of fats that you once may have consumed.. The gall bladder stores bile salts which is used digest lipids and is only stimulated when you ingest them. Good luck.
  3. I have read that a lot of people have trouble getting their fluids in. I have not had any trouble getting in the 8 glasses a day. In the mornings I have been having nausea but it goes away. It takes all day but I followed one thing I read here is to always have a glass in your hand. It takes all day, but I get it done. I have also been able to get all of the protein in as well. The only time I experienced any trouble is when I was using Milk to make the shakes. Good luck!

  5. I have been overweight the majority of my life (38 years). I grew up as the fat kit that no one wanted on their team or was picked last. I outgrew my weight issues during high school and joined the Army. After getting out it was difficult to maintain the level of discipline to maintain my weight. As life goes on I sprung up in weight and have been battling my weight since then. After seeing the amazing transformation my mother has had from gastric bypass (6+ years ago) I have always wanted to get surgery. My surgery journey started last May when I was living in Boston and was referred to a bariatric surgeon. This was a dream that was going to happen, finally. After going through the pre-op appointments I moved to Guadalajara (July 2010) for medical school. I had every intention continuing my journey, but being able to get the psyc appointments scheduled became a nightmare. I started my diet and exercise and started to lose weight while researching having the surgery in Mexico. After saving up the money and having lost 50 pounds I thought it was time to schedule the appointments to meet the doctors. The beginning of February I scheduled to visit the two doctor offices that performed the surgeries in Guadalajara. I chose my doctor and scheduled the surgery for February 18th. This is the second time that I have had surgery so I kind of knew what to expect at the hospital, none the less I was a little apprehensive and doctor’s staff did everything they could to make me feel comfortable. I did my pre-op appointments on the day of surgery. Each doctor came in and interviewed me and then at 9am they took me down stairs for my procedure. I’m on my third day post op and I have slight pain in my abdomen that is not requiring meds. I haven’t had any major issues yet and hope it stays that way. If you have any questions about doing surgery in Guadalajara Mexico please contact me.

    Paying for the sleeve myself...

Let me preface this by saying I had just lost 50 pounds since I was working with another surgeon. I scheduled my first appointment so I could meet with the available surgeons in the area 2 weeks prior to my desired surgery date (beginning of February). I visited two doctors available in Guadalajara Mexico where I live. After selecting the doctor of my choice I scheduled my surgery for February 18. My doctor (Dra. Jacqueline Osuna) only required the usual pre-op surgery stuff(blood work, EKG, etc...) which was included in the cost. I was told that she typically likes a liquid diet 1 week prior to surgery but my BMI was at 40 so she said that it was not necessary. I continued to diet and lost a little weight prior to surgery, because it is just a smart move. I had my surgery on Thursday and was back home on Friday afternoon after the leak check. The only thing that was asked for post-op care is to come see the nutritionist in a month since I'm local to their office.
