Speak up those with leaks & infections!
Can.sleeved replied to Can.sleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Quote:I'm sorry to get sucked unto this, but it seems nobody has stated the obvious. I haven't read any bad experiences on this board or any other from people who genuinely went to Dr. Almanza. Unfortunately people that are sick or have been afflicted with bad care most of the time DO NOT post, and also many of them DO NOT even want to be disclosed. Why is that? I don't know... Maybe someone out there could tell us. Why is that many places that do VSG's and many doctors you don't hear anything bad, just good? I would think because there is very little going wrong. However, when it seems that there is noise coming from a particular place/clinic always what does that tell you? Something about where there is smoke there is usually fire... -

The last two posts by Oregondaisy were great, good job!. This isn't about human error about clinics/doctors no. This is about many clinics going months without issues and yet a place like Emmanuel/Jerusalem having having many, many issues in the same time frame. Keep making our voices heard because I have had many private posts that said they CHANGED where they were having their VSG because of the info being spoken. Blessings Russ P.S. That other board Obesity whatever is a mess I can't navigate around that, this board is much much better -
I know what you mean... I felt weird when I asked the guy with the grocery carts to lift my bags in the trunk I had never, never done anything like that before... Blessings Russ

You will be fine. You won't set any records going through the airport (I know Sonia and I didn't going through San Diego airport) Make sure you get Water in and most of all DO not lift anything more than about 10 lbs. Ask for help! Even when you first get home for the first two weeks. When I went grocery shopping for first two weeks I would flag down the guy collecting shopping carts in the parking lot and would ask him to please put my groceries in my trunk because I just had an operation. When I got home I got my boy to bring them in. Don't lift your suitcase either get help! All the best Russ!

Can.sleeved replied to HEARTONMYSLEEVE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! For me and my wife the first 18 hours was horrendously painful and then rapidly improved from there and we never had to take anything for pain after day three. It is amazing how quick you recover though. Keep us posted on your progress! All the best Russ -

Thinoneday said no potatoes, rice, pasta, bread... how come??? I have been eating potatoes (mashed) rice (not much, just a little when I was at an East Indian friend's house) and bread (a half a slice of ww toast with my egg in the morning since two weeks out. Thanks Russ -

Could you tell what the lecture would involve about the food and leaks? I was three weeks out on the 6th and I am eating pretty well everything (in small amounts) but NO beef. I have not had any problems but could I still get a leak? Russ -
Hey there, how is it going for you? I haven't seen you around the forums for a while...

Wow that's pretty serious folks, money over people. I want to thank the many people that have spoken up since I started this thread you have contributed much and I believe have already saved some people from disappointment and grief. God bless you! Russ -

Great piece done by LAN2k! Information is empowering. Thanks -
Quote:I am just unable to tolerate anything more than a few sips of juice a day. On a really good day I can just about have 6 - 8 tea spoons of soup. Is this normal ? For some this may be normal depending how the VSG is done. I am three weeks out and I do not have to sip like that because of the way my VSG was done. I can drink a 16 oz. Protein shake (Water only) or water in 5 to 10 minutes. All the best Russ

Quote by pnw218 That would be wonderful in a perfect world but unfortunately there are people who have ulterior motives for dispensing false information. It becomes very difficult to decipher what is true and what isn't, what is someone's opinion and hearsay versus what is fact. Obviously she referring to me since I started the post. But lets be real here I have had PM's from people telling me there relatives/friends have been damaged but they are suffering, bitter and hurt. They won't come forward and they don't want to be disclosed either. pnw218 I have no ulterior motives and like I said before if I knew that the place I had my sleeve was doing bad work I wouldn't be covering for them. And it has been stated that bad stuff happens everywhere but let's not excuse the obvious. There are many good clinics/hospitals in the U.S. and abroad that are going MONTHS without any infections, leaks etc. But if you have one place like Emmanuel/Jerusalem that have 50 bad ones in the last 6 months don't you think we need to sound an alarm. I got lots of private e-mails off this post from people saying that people they know friends and family have had bad things happen to them at J/E but they can't say anything here because they will be shot down because it is hearsay. These people also said that they will not speak up for themselves for various reasons and also they wish NOT to be disclosed. -
Well life is good! I am three weeks out and down 25lbs. My wife is down 11lbs. We have been enjoying bike riding this past week (although not quite like our normal bike ride just yet). We have discovered a new love for Red sockeye salmon (high in protein, 3 oz 20 grams) Sometimes we wake up at 3 or 4 and have problems going back to sleep. Has any one else experienced this?

Quote:With the sleeve I know everyone keeps saying they eat anything they want but can you eat spicy food? That's the one thing I was worried about having to give up permanently. I am just 3 weeks out but from what I am experiencing and what I have been told you can eat whatever your tummy will let you. The soda thing for some time though would not be good, too acidic. I had a little East Indian food on Sat. - no problem but that is the way my stomach was before. All the best, Russ!

Now three weeks out

Thank you so much thinoneday and Lee. I don't feel like a freak so much now. How long does it take before you start sleeping normally? -

I too am an optimist and am never pessimistic but I don't "keep my head in the sand" or "turn a blind eye either". But for you pnw218 I say we have a couple rounds of Kumbaya to settle you down... -

And I have nothing to hide either. I get it now PNW218. So you got one or more surgeries via Jerusalem/Emmanuel so that is why you are so defensive about this. You don't care that Betancourt isn't a doctor but he says he is. I will not war with you either, in fact I am done. Many places in the U.S. and Mexico are doing hundreds of VSG's without issues for months. The place that you defend are doing 12 a day in the same OR and are having major problems. Go ahead defend if you like, but why? I think maybe you are working for them. Oh, if I found out the place I had my VSG got sloppy and were having major problems coming out of there I sure wouldn't defend them! -

Can.sleeved replied to Can.sleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Responding to what LAN2K said yes people are afraid to speak up. I was on the another board and they are speaking out and some are doing something about the bad practices so I feel relieved. I know some that a talked to personally were threatened and told never come back to Mexico. Sounding an alarm and drawing attention to this may help others avoid pain and suffering. I had someone on another board who did post her story after my post and the poor soul had racked up $250,000 in the U.S. afterwords because she was messed up. Those that are going to have procedures BEWARE and ask around! -
Speak up those with leaks & infections!
Can.sleeved replied to Can.sleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is why I started this post this in hope that those that have been mistreated will SPEAK UP! Unfortunately the ones that have a bad experience most of the time DO NOT speak up. Notice the title of the post: Speak up those with leaks & infections! If your mother, friend, neighbor, uncle or spouse had a bad experience you could not say anything because it would be hearsay. So let me say it again clearly if any out there know of those that have had bad experiences encourage them to come forward so it won't be heresy and we can save others of pain and misery. -
I earlier stated my sleeve date was March 17 but it was really March 16th, oops! So we are in our 10th day out and doing great. On the scales today Russ down 12lbs, Sonia down 8lbs!!! Is this for real? Anyway I will keep bringing our progress...

wish you hadn't done it?
Can.sleeved replied to stcyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I am sleeved from March16th. It is great! The first day it was rough but after that a breeze. It is nice not being able to eat much and being satisfied. I am done 20lbs already. You will not regret this at all. I watched something on the net recently about the last 7 years of the biggest losers and most gained the weight back. You still can eat whatever but you can't eat much of it! All the best Russ! -

St. Patties day was the day for both my wife and I to have the sleeve. This is so dramatic! I did a lot of research and came to the conclusion that the sleeve was are only way to go. We are from S.W. Ontario and welcome any feedback!
