  1. It's great that you're up to posting!! All I did after surgery was sleep. No reading, almost no TV, just sleep. I can't speak for the hunger b/c I didn't have a problem with that. But, gas pains...walk!!!
  2. I was sleeved by Dr. Kelly on July 29th. This is from the diet plan I received before I left the hospital. Day 1-7 ~ clear liquids. Day 8 add milk. Day 10 add liquid protein. On day 22 begin mushies. Day 30 start solids. If you want more specific just let me know.

    Burping

I'm definitely a gurgler. If I take too big of a drink I get the same pain at the "connector" and burp. I was always a big burper pre surgery, so I was wondering how my body would handle them afterwards. Now they are such small burps!! I used to could burp very long and loudly!! I feel like one of my talents has been taken away .
  4. I'm trying to figure out the post op diet from Dr. Kelly. I was sent some paperwork before surgery and then given another one before I left the hospital after surgery. Well, the 2 things don't match!! If other patients of his could please tell me what progression they had and on what days post op I'd appreciate the help.

    Help w/ Post Op Diet

I'm doing well. Thanks for the info. I'm not having any problems getting my clears down, just getting used to how they feel when they hit the tummy. I thought my "bubbles" were over, but this is a new kind of bubbling. Today was the first day I could really drink anything as compared to baby sips. I'm just ready to get to some thicker stuff like the cream of wheat and pudding, etc. This liquid thing is getting pretty old. I had a strawberry banana smoothie at the mall today. Sometimes I just forget that I've had this done. It was after my first sip that I remembered I really shouldn't be having it. But then I thought about all the people who are on the kind of diet that says as long as it's pureed and can go thru a straw (which I do use sometimes) they can eat anything. So, I tried it out very slowly. It went down great and actually felt kinda filling. But, the dairy in it definitely caused some gas .

    Deciding on a Goal Weight?

I don't have a weight goal set. I have a size goal, and that is to fit into a medium. Whatever weight I am at that time will be fine. Before we flew home from Tijuana I bought a size medium t-shirt at the airport. It's hanging up front and center in the closet so I see it every time I go in there. I can't remember ever weighing less than 160 (I was in the 5th grade at the time), so I can't even refer back to an "old" me. I don't have a clue what I'll look like, so I figured a size would be better than a number. If I were to use weights I would start at 150, since that is the top weight in the "normal" section of the BMI chart. If I can loose more and look healthy and not sickly, than I'll try to keep going until I reach 120, which is the bottom weight in the "normal" section. But, I truly think I'll be hanging out around the higher weight, I'm to big boned to ever get really skinny. At least my mom thinks I am. (She says at birth I weighed 8#, but felt like a boulder when they laid me on her tummy!!)

    thirsty...

thanks for the experience cutie pie!! i was so afraid of doing the same thing that i may have been doing the exact opposite and not taking in enough. i did some math today and figured that if i need 64oz per day and i'm awake for roughly 14 hours each day than i need to take in 5 oz every hour, which comes out to an ounce every 12 minutes. that really helped me to understand how much to take in without hurting myself. i'm still gonna eat a popsicle today though!!
  8. I am 5 days post op and always thirsty. The kind where your mouth is kinda sticky. I've sipped on water, gatorade, crystal light, juice. Any suggestions on how to quench my sticky mouth without going over my 4oz limit?
  9. peppercma

    thirsty...

The 4oz limit comes from the instructions sent home with me when I left the hospital... "Drink no more than half a cup at a time, take small sips. Drink only what you can, do not force feed, and do not take more than half a cup." I'm a bit confused at the moment. I watched my leak test, the stuff goes in & out without stopping in the tummy, so why is there a limit to how much I can drink at once? Jello I can understand, I imagine it stays around for a bit, but not liquid. If I'm understanding the above statement wrong please let me know!!

    thirsty...

thanks for the tip. i bought popsicles before surgery and completely forgot about them!!
  11. Thanks everyone for you help. Dr. Kelly showed up about 30 minutes after I posted this and answered all the questions I had, which was more than just these 3 . I tried several times to post that I had my answers, but for some reason I couldn't do it. I'm home now and things are going well.
  12. Hey there all you experienced sleevers! I had my surgery on the 29th and was released from the hospital yesterday and am now staying at the Lucerna (great hotel btw). My questions are... 1. Whenever I take a drink now, my tummy "bubbles". Is this the left over gas from the surgery or am I drinking wrong? 2. How did you take your antibiotic? The past 2 times, I've opened it and put it in a bit of Jello, but, that is nasty. Any advice? 3. Are the tummy pills for everyone or just those with acid/reflux problems? Trish is supposed to be here a while, but I thought I might be able to get my answers quicker this way. TIA!

    Your Prayers are Desired

My name is Pepper and my husband is Charlie. We just settled into the hotel in San Diego. I'm not nervous yet, but I imagine that will change tomorrow. Thanks so much for the prayers!! God loves to hear from us, especially when we are asking for others, at least that's what I think.

July 29th and 30thers are you all ready????

Just settled into the hotel in San Diego. Leave for the hospital tomorrow morning. So far, no nerves, yeah! But, man am I hungry!! Because we came from Atlanta all I've had to eat today is one yogurt, and lots of water and apple juice. I'm looking forward to not being hungry for a while

July 29th and 30thers are you all ready????

Yep, I'm starting to get a bit nervous. Tomorrow is the day that I have to take the kids to their grandma, then my husband and I fly out in the evening. I had the hardest time trying to find clothes to wear for after the surgery. I didn't want anything that would rub or be too tight on the incisions. I usually wear denim shorts, so I wound up having to pack church clothes! Oh well, at least I'll look good for souvenir hunting and the flight home. I've been eating lots of yogurt and chicken broth. Seems weird, but oatmeal is actually on my pre-op diet. I never would have thought it, but I actually got full eating chicken broth, broccoli cheese soup and yogurt. I could only eat half of it. My husband said that we're wasting our money on the surgery if eating liquids makes me full!!
  16. I just found another place to get lots of different samples ($1.95 ea) as well as full sized powders, foods, Vitamins, etc. www.NashuaNutrition.com

    Isopure GAG

I tried a couple of the isopure drinks, grape & something red, both were disgusting!! The sucked all the moisture out of my mouth and had a horrible aftertaste. I have no desire to try any of the other flavors from them.

    Talking to your kids?

My girls are 8 & 4. My surgery is this Friday in Mexico. My husband and I told them that I was going to have an operation to make my stomach smaller so that I couldn't eat as much food and it would help me to get skinny. Also, that once I was skinnier I'd feel more like going outside to play with them & even jump on the trampoline. The 4 yo had no questions or anything, just "OK". The 8yo was excited that I'd be willing & able to play with her more. She did say that she thought I'd be ugly if I was skinny b/c she thinks I'm pretty now. Isn't that the best thing ever!! It's probably easier to tell the younger ones b/c they don't really understand what it means to have surgery and the risks involved. Just put a good spin on it and they're happy. I think that for the older ones like you have just be honest and open with them and let them know that you're willing to answer any questions they have.
  19. Hopefully I'll be doing as well as you when I'm down there next week!!

    Kelly or Aceves?

Hi, Dr.Kelly will be my surgeon on the 29th of this month. I had a time when I was wondering if I made the right choice with him and posted a question similar to yours. I don't know if you've read this yet or not, but below is the link to it... http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/20498-kelly-aceves-or-alvarez/
  21. I didn't know that there was a certain type of Protein that we needed. Thanks for the info. I wanted to find out why whey is better for us and below is a nice simple explanation (taken from protein-powder-resource.com)... Whey Protein powder is the most common type you'll see. Basically it's the liquid that comes after the curdleing process. Once this is done, it makes it to where your body can absorb it. This is what I take everyday because it has the highest Biological Value (BV) Here are 3 main forms: - Concentrate - Isolate - Hydrolysate Concentrates are low in fat and cholesterol. On the flipside, there are higher levels of milk carbohydrates. Your body absorbs about 55%-60%. This will run you the cheapest. Isolates removes the fat & lactose. This makes for a high concentration. Your body then absorbs 70%-80%. These are price in the medium range. Hydrolyzed are the easiest to absorb, but cost the most. Basically the same as isolates except, this is the most absorable type thats made. That means your body absorbs 99%! There is alot more information on this type. My purpose here was to give you the basics without getting all technical. Whichever you pick, make sure the fat content per scoop is low. Sure, some are cheaper then others, but the extra cost might be worth it if your trying to lose body fat!
  22. AutumnBlue - I'm the 29th also, with Dr. Kelly in Tijuana. I don't suppose you'll be there, too? Or do you have a different Dr?
  23. I, too, don't quite see it as "last meal". I thought more in terms of quantity, like I'll never eat 5 slices of pizza again, or 3 sausage and gravy biscuits. It's kinda weird, but I was feeding my 7 week old and thought, wow, she eats more than I will in a few weeks.

    July Master List

Well, I'm back from vacation and I enjoyed my last real meals. It's kinda weird to say goodbye to everything you eat...like this is the last time I'll ever eat 4 slices of pizza again, or a big ol' plate of sausage gravy and biscuits. Anyway, I start the pre-op diet tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it, sorta. This trip to the beach definitely made me happy with my decision to have the surgery. There were so many of those uncomfortable fat days! I just kept thinking ahead to the next beach vacation and how much better I'll look and feel about myself. I'm glad to hear how well everyone has done with their surgeries this month. Good luck to those who are still waiting to go.
