I just got home from visiting my surgeon this morning. I've lost another 2 pounds for a total of 26.5 pounds since I was banded on March 28th, 6 months ago. I have lost 4 pants sizes and the jeans that I bought 2 weeks ago are already starting to get loose in the waist. Dr Tanner says that women re-distribute their weight and then lose even more and they are quite thrilled with my progress so far. I am up to 4.5cc's after .5cc fill today. If anyone has any questions just let me know. I promise for you newbies that it does get easier.

Going for my 3rd fill and hope it goes better.
Gunnersgal replied to FLMichael's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My opinion is if you are going to continue to eat the same foods you ate before the band then get up off your seat and move, move, move! The band can't do it alone. Exercise is almost as important as what you eat, even if it consists of taking long walks. Sitting on your duff lowers your metabolism more than eating loads of carbs. I'm pretty happy with my band so far, I've had 2 fills for a total of 3cc's and I've lost 24.5 lbs in 3 months. I had the surgery mainly for forced portion control, not so much what I was eating, it was how much of it I was eating. I feel much better now and can hardly wait to lose the rest of the weight. -
i was banded March 28 which makes today my 3 month mark. I've had 2 fills for a total of 3cc's and I've never had a problem with corn or popcorn at this point. My surgeon did warn me that corn could be a problem but at this point it hasn't been. I feel great now and I've lost 24.5 lbs!!! I haven't found anything that really gives me any problem as long as I chew, chew, chew. I haven't tried to eat beef, other than hamburger, sticking mostly to chicken dishes.

Any Idea What's Going on
Gunnersgal replied to Gunnersgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I sure don't feel much better this morning. How long will this last? I started running low grade fever last night so I just went to bed and I think I tried to throw up while I was sleeping. All of a sudden I was sitting up in bed swallowing, not sure what that was all about either. Fortunately I am friends with my surgeons office manager so I will text her this morning and ask if I need to be seen. -
I am 8 weeks post band, with 2cc's in, and I have been doing fine up until today. The day started as a usual Sunday morning, got up around 8:30, had a little Breakfast, got dressed and headed to Penney's to do a little shopping. By the time we got home I was really hungry, put last nights casserole in the oven to warm up and drank some Sobe Water. Now here's the issue, I guess I drank the Sobe water to fast because I immediately had a pain and the sliming started as if something was stuck. Its been 3 hours since then and I'm all burpy and gassy feeling like just after surgery and it hurts to take a deep breath just like it did after surgery. Am I having spasms from drinking the cold liquid to fast? I tried drinking a hot tea to see if that would help and no such luck. Any ideas what is going on? Did I cause it to slip somehow?

Any Idea What's Going on

It was when I was putting the casserole in the oven for 30 minutes. I just felt so hungry that I had to get something in my stomach and now I'm still regretting it. -
Just last week on the 14th we took my nephews to a local baseball game and before hand we went to Subway. I was going to have a salad but I decided to try a 6 inch wrap. I took small bites and chewed and chewed before I swallowed and didn't have a bit of trouble. I was not able to eat the entire sandwich. This past Thursday I was doing clinical for school and they provided me with lunch. As I picked up my dressed turkey burger and took a big bite out of it the duh light went on over my head. I had completely forgotten about my band until the food was in my mouth so I just chewed and chewed and chewed it to mush before trying to swallow and it went down without a problem. I was only able to eat a couple of bites of it though before I was stuffed.

So I went to see my surgeon this morning at 10am to weigh in and get my first fill. I couldn't believe the size of the needle he came at me with. IT WAS HUGE!!!, and I'm a nurse so I'm used to needles. It didn't hurt at all, just a small little pinch and a some pressure but no pain. I've lost 18.5 pounds since surgery on March 28th, 2 pants sizes and no longer need the extenders for my bra. I can almost get back into my levi jeans . He only gave me 2cc's and told me to stay on liquids today, soft food tomorrow, then back to normal on Saturday. I'm so excited and feel soooo much better than I did 4 weeks ago. I guess I need to check out some consignment shops for some summer clothes cause I'm not buying any brand new clothes anytime soon. Thanks for all the words of encouragement and support I've received so far, I'm so glad I found this forum. Hopefully I can lose another 12-18 lbs in the next 5 weeks until my next appointment.

Hunger level after surgery
Gunnersgal replied to MissJ482's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had any fill yet but I'm scheduled for my first on Thursday. I don't want him to put in to much because I still have pretty good restriction. I do get hungry a couple of times a day, at the appropriate meal times but it doesn't take very much to abate it and fill me up. If I eat to fast or don't chew well enough I will get nauseated just until the food passes and occasionally get hiccups. I'm still learning and don't think I need to much fill to keep things going. I'm looking forward to seeing how much more I've lost. People at work keep asking me how much I've lost and saying that it is really noticable to them. Of course I still see the "Fat Girl" when I look in the mirror. -
One day post op and veterans, I could use some advice :)
Gunnersgal replied to Beachy_Babs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on March 28th and I get my first fill on Thursday, May 5th. The first 2 weeks were pretty miserable but ever since I have been able to eat mushies I've felt 100% better. Hang in there newbies I promise it does get better. I can hardly wait to find out what I've lost so far. I know I lost 16lbs in just the first 12 days, but like I said it was a miserable time. I guess I will be going back on mostly liquids for the days after my fill. Adkins pre-made protein shakes are pretty tasty and for those of you who are having trouble getting your protein each day I've been introduced to a bar that has 30gms per bar. They are a little higher in the carbs. They are called Premier Nutrition High Protein Bars and you can get them at Sam's Club for around $13-14 per box of 15. Hope this helps. -
weightloss before first fill??
Gunnersgal replied to dolce_vita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my band surgery on Mar. 28th and I've lost 16 lbs so far. I had my post op visit yesterday and was amazed when I stepped on the scale cause I just don't know where it went. When I look in the mirror I don't look any different to me. Does that happen to anyone else? I get to start on mushies tomorrow and I can't wait to eat me some oatmeal for breakfast. Just the chance to actually CHEW something has me excited. -
Had a pretty bad stuck episode and now have question?
Gunnersgal replied to Stephy5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just a newbie being only banded for 8 days but aren't you supposed to stay away from steak and bread because of the risk of getting stuck? -
As long as you are drinking Water and broth you will be fine. It took me until post op day 4 to even feel any kind of hunger so just drink what you can and/or want without making yourself sick and it will get better day to day. If you are having a lot of nausea call your surgeon and ask for liquid nausea medicine. It made a world of difference for me.

MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!
Gunnersgal replied to MarcyLoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on March 28th, almost a week ago and it's been one tough week. The first 3 days post-op were the worst. On Friday I was finally able to start sipping on Protein shakes. I really like the Adkins brand as they are high protein and low sugar. I am also able to drink the Elite whey Protein Isolate that I got from my personal trainer. The orange and the banana are delish, especially when blended in my Healthmaster Blender with a banana or orange. It really helps with the hunger pains. Last night I made my family a huge salad and spaghetti and sat with my back toward them while they ate . This morning I got out of bed and made them sausage and pancakes. I really miss chewing my food and can hardly wait until the 11th when I can start mushies. My husband had some Fritos with his lunch today and I took one and licked all the salt off of it. I am going back to work tomorrow and that should be an experience. I'm taking my Water bottle, a small thermos with liquified vegetable beef Soup and an Adkins shake poured into a resealable shakeable container. -
I was just banded on 3/28, so a week ago tomorrow, and it is taking me 1 1/2 to 2 hours to drink an Adkins protein shake. It's definetly not a race, just sip it as you can/want to until you get it down. Right now I laugh at the surgeons suggestion to take in 60gm of protein daily. I'm doing good to get down one 15gm shake per day, I can't imagine trying to suck down 4 of them.

I think I've passed the first bandster hell phase
Gunnersgal posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Finally today (post op day 4) I am able to take sips of liquids without it feeling like I need to vomit immediately!!! I have been sipping on a SoBe Zero water without any problem and I realized that I was HUNGRY. I haven't even thought that word since Monday morning before surgery. I am sipping on my first protein shake and it's delicious!! Yesterday was hell and today is Heaven. I am on my way. -
I think I've passed the first bandster hell phase
Gunnersgal replied to Gunnersgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can already tell that the liquid phase of the diet is going to get old soon. I already miss chewing. I will stick to it, don't worry. I didn't go thru all the cost and misery to mess it up. On a positive note I've lost 10 lbs from my first surgeon visit on 2/17 until yesterday (POD3). Thats definetly a positive start. It can only get better, -
Is this for real!!!!!!
Gunnersgal replied to guyguys1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are soooo lucky. I was also banded on Monday 3/28/11 and I can barely get down anything. Even tinny tiny sips of clear liquid cause stabbing pain in my chest and I feel like I need to puke. I just finally started burping today and that helps, along with the gas x strips. I was originally scheduled to start Protein drinks tomorrow but when I went to see the surgeon today, because I puked twice yesterday, he told me to continue to hold off on them. I have no desire to eat anything and can barely force myself to sip clears. This was supposed to be a walk in the park and it's turning out to be my worst nightmare. When does bandster hell stop? -
Bubbles Bubbles Everywhere but not a drop to drink
Gunnersgal posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my band placed on Monday, March 28th. That makes me post op day 2 and I am miserable with the gas. I've tried walking from one side of my house to the other, leisurely back and forth, back and forth, heating pads, ice packs, chest percussion and my husband trying to burp me like an infant. I have had only 8oz of veg. broth ALL DAY, sipping slowly and periodically and have been sipping on sugar free kool aid, just to keep my mouth moist. The gas bubble are driving me crazy. Every time I take a tiny sip and swallow I get horrible pains in my chest and the gas bubbles start to roll up and go where ever they go. It sounds like I have to burp but then nothing comes out except burping noises that aren't coming out of my mouth. Is all of this normal? I know there is a lot of swelling but this seems ridiculous. The doctor told me that liquids would flow right through. I have been nauseated, feeling like I need to vomit more than anything yet nothing happens, more bubble popping noises or I spit up bubbles? I did also end up needing a hiatal hernia repair while he was in there and I have been having hiccups several times yesterday and today. Should I be concerned about these issues or is this normal post-op behavior? Should I call my doc and get nausea meds? Thanks for your help.
