  1. I just got home from visiting my surgeon this morning. I've lost another 2 pounds for a total of 26.5 pounds since I was banded on March 28th, 6 months ago. I have lost 4 pants sizes and the jeans that I bought 2 weeks ago are already starting to get loose in the waist. Dr Tanner says that women re-distribute their weight and then lose even more and they are quite thrilled with my progress so far. I am up to 4.5cc's after .5cc fill today. If anyone has any questions just let me know. I promise for you newbies that it does get easier.
  2. My opinion is if you are going to continue to eat the same foods you ate before the band then get up off your seat and move, move, move! The band can't do it alone. Exercise is almost as important as what you eat, even if it consists of taking long walks. Sitting on your duff lowers your metabolism more than eating loads of carbs. I'm pretty happy with my band so far, I've had 2 fills for a total of 3cc's and I've lost 24.5 lbs in 3 months. I had the surgery mainly for forced portion control, not so much what I was eating, it was how much of it I was eating. I feel much better now and can hardly wait to lose the rest of the weight.

    Who Knew, Corn?

i was banded March 28 which makes today my 3 month mark. I've had 2 fills for a total of 3cc's and I've never had a problem with corn or popcorn at this point. My surgeon did warn me that corn could be a problem but at this point it hasn't been. I feel great now and I've lost 24.5 lbs!!! I haven't found anything that really gives me any problem as long as I chew, chew, chew. I haven't tried to eat beef, other than hamburger, sticking mostly to chicken dishes.

    Any Idea What's Going on

I sure don't feel much better this morning. How long will this last? I started running low grade fever last night so I just went to bed and I think I tried to throw up while I was sleeping. All of a sudden I was sitting up in bed swallowing, not sure what that was all about either. Fortunately I am friends with my surgeons office manager so I will text her this morning and ask if I need to be seen.

Thanks Cindy, that makes me feel a little bit better. This is me waiting it out.

    Any Idea What's Going on

It was when I was putting the casserole in the oven for 30 minutes. I just felt so hungry that I had to get something in my stomach and now I'm still regretting it.

    Subway Sandwich

Just last week on the 14th we took my nephews to a local baseball game and before hand we went to Subway. I was going to have a salad but I decided to try a 6 inch wrap. I took small bites and chewed and chewed before I swallowed and didn't have a bit of trouble. I was not able to eat the entire sandwich. This past Thursday I was doing clinical for school and they provided me with lunch. As I picked up my dressed turkey burger and took a big bite out of it the duh light went on over my head. I had completely forgotten about my band until the food was in my mouth so I just chewed and chewed and chewed it to mush before trying to swallow and it went down without a problem. I was only able to eat a couple of bites of it though before I was stuffed.
  8. I am 8 weeks post band, with 2cc's in, and I have been doing fine up until today. The day started as a usual Sunday morning, got up around 8:30, had a little Breakfast, got dressed and headed to Penney's to do a little shopping. By the time we got home I was really hungry, put last nights casserole in the oven to warm up and drank some Sobe Water. Now here's the issue, I guess I drank the Sobe water to fast because I immediately had a pain and the sliming started as if something was stuck. Its been 3 hours since then and I'm all burpy and gassy feeling like just after surgery and it hurts to take a deep breath just like it did after surgery. Am I having spasms from drinking the cold liquid to fast? I tried drinking a hot tea to see if that would help and no such luck. Any ideas what is going on? Did I cause it to slip somehow?
  9. So I went to see my surgeon this morning at 10am to weigh in and get my first fill. I couldn't believe the size of the needle he came at me with. IT WAS HUGE!!!, and I'm a nurse so I'm used to needles. It didn't hurt at all, just a small little pinch and a some pressure but no pain. I've lost 18.5 pounds since surgery on March 28th, 2 pants sizes and no longer need the extenders for my bra. I can almost get back into my levi jeans . He only gave me 2cc's and told me to stay on liquids today, soft food tomorrow, then back to normal on Saturday. I'm so excited and feel soooo much better than I did 4 weeks ago. I guess I need to check out some consignment shops for some summer clothes cause I'm not buying any brand new clothes anytime soon. Thanks for all the words of encouragement and support I've received so far, I'm so glad I found this forum. Hopefully I can lose another 12-18 lbs in the next 5 weeks until my next appointment.

    Hunger level after surgery

I haven't had any fill yet but I'm scheduled for my first on Thursday. I don't want him to put in to much because I still have pretty good restriction. I do get hungry a couple of times a day, at the appropriate meal times but it doesn't take very much to abate it and fill me up. If I eat to fast or don't chew well enough I will get nauseated just until the food passes and occasionally get hiccups. I'm still learning and don't think I need to much fill to keep things going. I'm looking forward to seeing how much more I've lost. People at work keep asking me how much I've lost and saying that it is really noticable to them. Of course I still see the "Fat Girl" when I look in the mirror.
  11. I was banded on March 28th and I get my first fill on Thursday, May 5th. The first 2 weeks were pretty miserable but ever since I have been able to eat mushies I've felt 100% better. Hang in there newbies I promise it does get better. I can hardly wait to find out what I've lost so far. I know I lost 16lbs in just the first 12 days, but like I said it was a miserable time. I guess I will be going back on mostly liquids for the days after my fill. Adkins pre-made protein shakes are pretty tasty and for those of you who are having trouble getting your protein each day I've been introduced to a bar that has 30gms per bar. They are a little higher in the carbs. They are called Premier Nutrition High Protein Bars and you can get them at Sam's Club for around $13-14 per box of 15. Hope this helps.

    weightloss before first fill??

I had my band surgery on Mar. 28th and I've lost 16 lbs so far. I had my post op visit yesterday and was amazed when I stepped on the scale cause I just don't know where it went. When I look in the mirror I don't look any different to me. Does that happen to anyone else? I get to start on mushies tomorrow and I can't wait to eat me some oatmeal for breakfast. Just the chance to actually CHEW something has me excited.
  13. I'm just a newbie being only banded for 8 days but aren't you supposed to stay away from steak and bread because of the risk of getting stuck?
  14. Gunnersgal

    I'm so confused!!!

As long as you are drinking Water and broth you will be fine. It took me until post op day 4 to even feel any kind of hunger so just drink what you can and/or want without making yourself sick and it will get better day to day. If you are having a lot of nausea call your surgeon and ask for liquid nausea medicine. It made a world of difference for me.

    MARCH 2011 BANDSTERS!

I was banded on March 28th, almost a week ago and it's been one tough week. The first 3 days post-op were the worst. On Friday I was finally able to start sipping on Protein shakes. I really like the Adkins brand as they are high protein and low sugar. I am also able to drink the Elite whey Protein Isolate that I got from my personal trainer. The orange and the banana are delish, especially when blended in my Healthmaster Blender with a banana or orange. It really helps with the hunger pains. Last night I made my family a huge salad and spaghetti and sat with my back toward them while they ate . This morning I got out of bed and made them sausage and pancakes. I really miss chewing my food and can hardly wait until the 11th when I can start mushies. My husband had some Fritos with his lunch today and I took one and licked all the salt off of it. I am going back to work tomorrow and that should be an experience. I'm taking my Water bottle, a small thermos with liquified vegetable beef Soup and an Adkins shake poured into a resealable shakeable container.
