    Surgery Tommorow!!

Welcome to this side of the adventure. Hope the gas resolves quickly. Like Meggie said, get some good rest and don't over do it. You will be feeling well very quickly and it will be easy to over estimate your energy levels. But no worries, you will do great!

2 years post op and need advice

Well, I am only post op 12 days so not sure if my advice will interest you, but if I were in your shoes I would pull out my bible and start with the basics. My book says 60-80 grams of protein a day, 64 oz water and strive for 1 hour of activity 5 days a week. The bariatric nurse coordinator said that eventually I should be between 1200-1500 calories daily depending on my activity level. Can you contact an exercise physiologist at the hospital where you had your surgery? Mine is going to charge me $25.00 to create an idividualized work out when my lifting restrictions are dropped. I am also going to see my nutritionist to work out some sample menus. I'm not sure what that will cost, but I would imagine it wouldn't be too much. Maybe you could talk to your sugeon and see what he recommends as far as additional guidance. It looks like considering what you have been through you have done GREAT! You aren't too far from your goal, I'm so envious! Take care and good luck!
  3. Yeah, I guess I'm a slow loser too! I've lost 11 lbs since surgery, and none of that has been in the last three days. MY SCALE HAS NOT MOVED IN 3 DAYS. But I feel so fortunate to have lost what I have and know that it will come off one way or the other. In the past I would diet like crazy for about a week, lose 1 or 2 pounds if I was lucky and then give up. This is the most weight that I have lost in a long time without feeling like I am starving. We will get there! As my husband says: How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
  4. Wow it sounds like you are doing GREAT! You already get to eat soft foods?? You are so lucky. Your weight loss is excellent. Take care!

    Not Ready For Surgery

Well, I kind of did the same thing, although I stopped short of going totally nuts. I'm not really a volume eater, but I basically went around and ate pretty much what I wanted. My husband was angry with me, asking "are you trying to get it all in or what? You're about to get your stomach cut out and you're eating THAT?" My clever reply was "that is EXACTLY why I am eating this!" I think that you do have to have a little food memorial and eat some of your favorite dishes. Then say so long for now but don't say good bye because somewhere down the road chances are that you will be able to eat them again, but it will only take you very little to be satisfied. Chances are the surgery will bring you enough success that you will be so motivated to eat right that those moments of indulgence will be few and far between. Maybe you should talk to a counselor about what you are feeling; they could try to help you work it out. If you are not totally sure that this is the right time for surgery, postpone it until you feel comfortable with your decision. I feel weird giving you my opinion because I am only 11 days post op, but I don't regret for one moment my decision. Just remember that most of us go into this surgery with "food issues" that's why most of us had the surgery to begin with. Anyways, keep us posted and good luck to you!
  8. Hello all, I am from Garland, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. I work in Dallas though. Nice to see so many people from the GREAT state of TEXAS!
  9. "Thumby" lol that is so cute! I thought that you were just misspelling "tummy". I don't have the unjury chicken soup so I decided to play around a little in the kitchen yesterday. I mixed a cream of chicken "cup of soup" with 2.5 tbls unflavored Protein powder. I added hot Water cooled to about 125 degrees...it was great! 95 calories, 1.5 fat, 12 carbs (a little high but I needed them) and 9 grams protein. I'm like yall, this sweet stuff is getting to me so that was a nice little break. Like you Kelly, I also cheated last night and ate some cottage cheese. It was good and didn't seem to bother my "thumby" at all.
  10. Just posted the same question. I guess as I make each one I'll calculate the nutritional info. I don't move to soft foods till Tuesday though so it may be a while. I'm really curious about the ricotta bake. It sounds so good, but like you I am pretty fanatical about tracking stuff.

    A GOOD protein Powder

Wow, I checked out the product and that looks really good. I'll have to go for a taste test today By the way, your new hair cut is cute. I can't wait to play around with mine when my face slims down a bit.
  13. Hey lissy, you are doing great! Just noticed that you and I have a lot in common. I also live in DFW area, and love to read and quilt. We are somewhat close in age and weight. Anyways, good luck to you and congrats!

  14. My surgery was first scheduled for the day too. I liked that. It gave the hospital staff more time to observe me before I was let go the next day. Also, getting up so dang early in the morning made me sleepy so after sugery so I slept the time away for several hours that afternoon. Anyways, good luck to you. Before you know it you'll be post op and wondering where time has gone!

    How to calculate fluid intake?

My doctor says to count protein shakes and crystal light (I don't drink it though) toward liquid requirements. I don't count the yogurt I eat as liquid though, but definitely count the protein in it. I'm curious to see other's responses. I feel that there would be NO way that I could get in all proteins and then consume 64 oz of fluids in addition to that right now, still being on full liquids. It looks to me like you are doing good though!
  16. Wow, how did your doctor determine that you were ready to move on to mushies? I have 3 more days before I can go to soft foods (I go straight from liquids to soft). Yesterday and today I have been HUNGRY. I can't wait! Enjoy your food! Great job on the weight loss!
  17. Dogg, it sounds like you have gotten some really good advice here. I'll say a prayer for you! Don't give up, fight the good fight.
  18. Hey Lynda, hope that you are doing alright and feeling better.

    Surgery Tommorow!!

Ambien was a life saver the night before surgery. Just relax the best you can. Early surgery time is good, gets you in your room and healing sooner. It will all be over before you know it. Keep us updated!
  20. continued: I know it seems as though the weight should be melting off, and it's easy to get bummed when the scale slows down, but we are doing good! I can't remember the last time that I've lost 11 lbs. I usually starve myself for a week, lose a pound or if I'm lucky 2, then give up. So this is pretty fantastic. We are just at the beginning! Take care!

  21. Hey Vickie, I am doing great! I'm getting my liquids and protein in, going to the gym and doing some cardio. I hit a wall each afternoon but that was happening before surgery. It is so easy to over do it, ha? I've had a couple of days where I have done very little, but my energy seems to be getting better. I have lost 11.5 since my surgery 9 days ago.

  22. Aww, you're so cute!
  23. I had to pay the balance by my pre op appt. I owed the deductible which came to about $1100. edited for math error
