Dr. Cywes v. Dr. Baptista, Jacksonville, FL (Long Post)
nikki c replied to nijireiki's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Wow, some interesting opinions! I have not yet been banded (hoping for next month, 6/11). I had my consult with dr c's new partner, dr pinnar. If anyone on here has doubts about being able to handle dr c's mouth i encourage them to see dr pinnar. very comforting, involved, and listen well. spent and hour with me on my consult! I think they are the best surgeons here in jax, and their after care and before care is AMAZING. They have a whole team of caring, attentive individuals and I can go in ANYTIME just to talk to someone. They hold bi monthly support groups and can be reached at anytime. I've found that the doctors move around their schedules to get me in asap. LOVE LOVE LOVE them! -
Surgeon Abandoned his Patients - Dr. Eric Pinnar
nikki c replied to emily_0192010's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I'm going in for my second appt with dr pinnar/cywes wednesday. I had my first consult with dr pinnar and was very impressed, he spent 1 hour with me! Seemed very knowledgeable and trustworthy. He's in a practice, so no matter what contract you sign it will be honored by the practice, not the specific dr. and there is no up front/membership fee at the jax practice. -
Kin d of off topic, but hubby and I sarted smoking eCigs in January and LOVE them. Hubby7's smoked for 17 years and has not had a traditional cig since we got them - I actually get a better hit off my ecig than I did with a regular cig. You guys should give it a go! Our favorites are the Joye eGo-T

Surgeon Abandoned his Patients - Dr. Eric Pinnar
nikki c replied to emily_0192010's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I opened this thread because I figured it was about Dr. Pinnar, my new doctor here in FL. I totally understand why you guys are upseyt that he left - he seems really great (spent and hour with me in my first consult!) He has joined Dr. Cywes in practice here in Jacksonville. I asked him why he came here and he said he needed a change, I think there's something fishy going on, too. I can see that you're upset about being no notice, but my understanding from his website is that there is still a doctor in the practice, that it was sold to him. I can also understand why Dr. Pinnar didn't say anything to his patients. Can you imagine how long the consults would take if he told everyone he was leaving and had to answer all their questions? There also may have been a contract that he wasn't allowed to inform anyone due to patient loss....just a thought. Hope you guys find someone new! ) -
My surgeon said no snacking because it encourages grazing, and if I eat all day I'll be defeating the purpose of the band by eating when I'm not hungry. I'm supposed to be full after a meal for 4 hours. If I eat breakfast at 8, then I shouldn't need to eat again until 12. Having a snack at 10 would be eating when i'm not hungry. If i am hungry at 10, then i need a fill. Snacks are also when we usually eat carbs - fruit, crackers, chips. Bad stuff. I can't wrap my head around eating a chicken breast for snack, lol.

DROID AP FOR FOOD LOG??? ANYONE HAVE ONE???
nikki c replied to MOMIOF3CV's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
sparkdiets.com has a great app. I also have a calorie counter armband through bodymedia.com and their calorie app is great, too. -
I enjoy exercise and am planning on getting the lap band. I am wondering if I'll still be able to find the energy to exercise and do my zumba classes since i'll have a lower calorie intake. Thanks!

Lap Band with "modified" gastric plication
nikki c replied to nikki6sangel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having this done (no date yet). The plication has a huge curve of 50% weight loss in the first 6 months, and the band provides long term weight maintenance. There is no cutting, stapling; complications are VERY low. My doc is really enthusiastic abut this surgery, and I absolutely can't wait!
