    December 2010 Sleevers!

Hi - it's been awhile since I've been here, and it's good to see a little activity! Got my sleeve on 12/1/2010, and as of today have lost 102 pounds. It's slower than I thought it would be, and I have periods of quick weight loss followed by the doldrums, but it's a downhill slide and I'm okay with that. How's it going for the rest of you?

    December 2010 Sleevers!

I had a slow start, too, and had my surgery on 12/1/2010. Now on 3/28/11, I'm down 63 pounds. I'm happier about it now - doesn't feel like it's so slow now!
  3. SOMEWHERE on this board someone posted a home made recipe for skin cream that had some lovely oils in it that may help with skin elasticity so we don't end up with too much sagging skin. Does anyone know where that is? I've tried searching for it but cannot find it anywhere. I want to make some and see if it works! Thank you!
  4. Dr. Bhoyrul in La Jolla, CA, performed my VSG surgery on 12/1/10 and he did a great job. I have had no gas pains, and I feel great. So happy with him and his staff. I was just wondering if anyone else out there had their sleeve done by Dr. Bhoyrul - haven't met anyone else yet. Please post if you did, and what your experience with him was like, or if you are waiting for surgery with him.

please tell me it will get better

Well, I'm having a different problem - I got my sleeve on 12/1. I feel great, but I haven't lost much weight. Only 14 pounds since surgery. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm discouraged, and wondering if it's working as well as it should. Am I doing something wrong?

    Protein drinks gagging me

Try the Nectar protein powder. It mixes with water, so you can use it in a water bottle just like Crystal light. It actually tastes kind of like Crystal Light and comes in about a dozen fruity flavors.

    off topic

I'm new, too, but I just saw this on another forum. Now I just have to figure out how to update the ticker! First you have to go a ticker site ( I just picked mine randomly). For example, I went to http://www.tickerfactory.com. Once you are there, you will create a profile for yourself where you will enter your current weight and your goal weight (some of them have different information you can add, like BMI). Once you have created your profile, you'll choose your ticker and the counter (for example, I chose a blue bar, and duck for my counter--I think you can change these up as you feel like it). Once you have done that, the site will provide you the code for your ticker. I think I chose the HTML code After you create your code, you'll need to add it to your profile. To do this: From the home page, click your profile name to open the drop-down list. Click "My Settings" In the settings options, Click Profile > Change my Signature In the signature area, paste the code that your ticker site provided you It should display as your current signature hope that helps!
  8. I need to lose well over 100 - in fact, 200 pounds lost would be awesome, but my goal is 160. I've been sleeved a week, and have lost only 6 pounds post-surgery. I do hope it starts dropping off faster, but maybe I'm expecting too much!
  9. I've got it right now, because I did a bad thing. I took out the carton of vanilla ice cream and a spoon, thinking I'd just have two bites and put it away. Well, I didn't put it away. I ate probably a pint and now I feel really crummy. Light headed, clammy, nauseous, rapid heartrate, and full. Won't be doing that again. Lesson learned!
  10. I think it's great you're down 22 pounds! I lost 16 on the liver shrinking diet, and have not lost any more since surgery on December 1. It's a little discouraging, but I'm hanging in there. My stomach gurgles and growls all the time, too, but I am definitely not hungry. Trying very hard to drink enough Water - only about 24 ounces a day and I know I'm supposed to drink twice that. Let's stay in touch - it's nice to talk to someone who had surgery almost the same day I did!
  11. Melanieleigh, maybe you're right and it was a hoax. I sure hope so. I had my surgery, and all is well (no weight loss yet after a week, but it will happen). It's amazing what people think is 'funny' to do as a hoax, and I think you might have figured it out. If she really was sick, or even if she had died, someone would have posted that as a follow-up (you'd think so, anyway). So - I am choosing to agree with you that it was a hoax! Hope you're doing well!
  12. No, I haven't felt hungry or full at all. If I take a big swallow of something, it hurts a little, but that's about all I feel in there at all. I keep forgetting to drink stuff, so I'll go all day without much of anything then have to cram it all in before I go to bed. I'm pretty sleepy, probably because I'm not eating enough. I'm working on it more today, and I have told my Mom and husband to nag me. I know the weight will come off, but it's discouraging to be the same weight after a week. But we're going to do it! You and I will be thin one day!
  13. Yep, I have it if I move too much. It really hurts! I think it's just part of the healing process. My surgery was 12/1 so I'm only a week out. Right now I am being careful and doing all I can to avoid that feeling! I'm sure it will go away soon for both of us!
  14. My surgery date was December 1, and my weight was 328. Today, my weight is.... 328! I am a little frustrated, and am having trouble getting many calories in. I'm averaging around 300 a day, on clear liquids with a little protein powder added and the occasional SF/FF pudding with protein powder added. I don't see my doc until 12/17, and I wish it were sooner!
  15. I had my surgery December 1, and feel pretty darn good! My doc used a 36 on me. He said that the smaller ones had a higher incidence of interfering with the blood vessels at the side of the stomach because he would be stapling closer to them. I think he is just ultra-careful, but that's okay with me because I'm pretty big. Like Tiffykins said, it's not the final size of your stomach anyway.

    Any December Sleevers?

My surgery date is December 1! I'm really excited, getting a little nervous, but happy!

    Always been overweight!!!

That's great news, Tiffykins! I had no idea there was ANY possibility of having breast implants covered. I had heard the tummy tuck was often covered. Guess I'll just have to see how my skin turns out, what kind of problems it causes, and what my insurance covers. I have United Healthcare, and they are covering 100% of my surgery, so maybe they are more cooperative than most. I imagine finding the right plastic surgeon is a daunting task. That's one thing I'm dreading. But maybe it's no harder than finding the right bariatric surgeon. Congratulations on working on a baby! I had one, and he's a grown man now, but he was and is one of the greatest blessings of my life.

    Always been overweight!!!

Tiffy, I'm glad you brought up the insurance issue. Is it possible to have those surgeries covered by insurance? I figured I'd just have to roll my boobs up and stuff them in the bra cups, and be happy with that! I'd be interested to know what the criteria is to cover the different surgeries you want and that I'm sure I'll need! Thanks for always being an encouragement!
  19. My surgery is December 1, and I have told ONLY the 4 people in my life that I know will support me, encourage me, and KEEP THEIR MOUTHS SHUT. If, at some point, I decide to tell the 'whole truth,' then that should be MY decision. I've read several posts on here by people whose families/friends spread the good news for them, and I don't want that. So I told my awesome husband of 35 years, my adult son, my mother, and my best friend. That's it. Everyone else has been told I'm on a liquid diet for a month (pre- and post-op) and then will have food re-introduced at my doctor's discretion, starting with very soft food like a baby. I told them I am relearning how to eat properly, and I'm starting from the beginning. That is the truth. I just left out the tiny little part about removing almost my ENTIRE FLIPPIN' STOMACH!!!!! WHAT?!?!?!?! Oh sorry.... got a little carried away there.... breathe.... breathe..... I'm okay now.... Where was I? Oh yeah - the truth but not the whole truth. I can live with it.

Hubby thinks he is in heaven now!!

I'm new to the forum, and even I knew this was the "Powder Room" for women. What was he doing here anyway? From the punctuation and spelling, I almost suspect that he was a child. Oh well, gone now, peace and quiet reigns in the Powder Room once again...

    I smell funny.

I don't care for those creamy Protein drinks and that is one of the reasons! Try nectar - you can mix it with cold Water and it has kind of the flavor of Crystal Light. It's a thin liquid, like iced tea or lemonade. It comes in many flavors, and you can get it on Amazon. It's the only one I drink now - mostly Roadside Lemonade flavor!

Need help finding jeans that fit

Try Catherine's Right Fit jeans. They come in 3 different shapes for every size and I love them! You can get them online.
  23. Good idea, feedyoureye! It's going to be nice to have a bun plumper instead of a plump butt!
  24. Kerri, I haven't had my surgery yet, but my doc has me drinking Protein shakes, and I hated them too. I tried four or five kinds and just didn't like them. I found one called nectar (made by Syntrax) that is different. You can mix it with a spoon in Water, and the Roadside Lemonade flavor isn't any worse than sugar-free Country Time Lemonade. It comes in a bunch of different flavors, too. Also, it doesn't change if you let it sit awhile. It isn't thick or slimy at all. You can get it on Amazon and I found mine in a Vitamin store. Try it - it has made all the difference for me in trying to get enough protein. Be patient.

    Clothing

I haven't had my surgery yet - December 1 is the day! I was sitting here having second thoughts, wondering if I'll be happy not being able to eat a huge delicious meal at a restaurant, or a giant slice of my favorite soft, fluffy coconut cake. Then I read these stories of fast weight loss, and going down multiple sizes, and a post on another thread from Tiffykins, and now I'm all geared up and ready to go again! Thank you - I can hardly wait!
