  1. Tiffykins, I just read that your husband was deployed the first four months of your recovery. That must have been so wonderful for him to come home and see your new appearance! I can hardly wait - my surgery is December 1. Sometimes I wonder if I'm going to miss being able to eat a huge slice of soft, fluffy cake, but being able to get through a turnstile without squeezing, or sit comfortably in a theater chair, will be worth it! I also want to thank you and your husband for the sacrifices you've made for our country. I hope you both have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and I hope you're able to spend it together! Val
  2. I'm having my surgery on December 1, and that is a big worry of mine. My hair isn't too thick as it is, but I think if I lose some, it will grow back and it's worth being smaller. Hey, maybe my head will shrink too, and therefore the follicles will be closer together, and my hair will look thicker! One can dream...

Pre-op Liquid Protein Diet & snacks

First of all, Leesey, I had to find a Protein drink I could stand! Most of them are okay if mixed in a blender with ice or frozen fruit, but that's a pain. I tried about 5, and then found nectar. It's available on Amazon, or in some Vitamin stores, and comes in 8 or 10 flavors. I bought Roadside Lemonade flavor, and it tastes like Crystal Light. It mixes easily with Water, so I can take it with me in a baggie in the car, and put it in a bottle of water and shake it. That has been the best thing! Also, I started on the chewable Vitamins, Iron, and Calcium, and that helps because it makes me feel like I'm having a snack! You can do this - the first 3 days are kind of hard, but after that I actually felt better, with more energy, than when I was eating. The first day I had a headache. Second day I felt nauseous and weak. Third day I felt weak. After that I felt great! Just don't get discouraged - it's going to be amazing when you're thin, and you'll barely remember this time. My surgery is on December 1, so I'm still on liquids. When is your surgery?
  4. You guys are all so encouraging, and I appreciate it so much! I have to say, I got so excited at thinoneday's comment about being able to buckle the airplane seatbelt with inches left over, AND cross her legs! Can't even remember when I did that last. I have to use a seatbelt extension now, and my legs are way too fluffy for crossing! Right now, December 1 can't come fast enough! For Thanksgiving, since I'm still on the all-liquid liver-shrinking diet, my husband and I are staying home alone in our pajamas. Everyone knows I'm on a liquid diet for about a month (2 weeks before surgery, and whatever the doc says after), but only a couple people know I'm having surgery. They just think that after the liquid diet, regular food will be re-introduced very slowly. Everyone is very supportive of my 'diet,' and the surgery is my business to disclose as I choose. So very excited right now! Thank you all so much for the encouragement!
  5. Hi - I'm thinking of having the vertical sleeve surgery. My BMI is over 50. So am I. I'm afraid this is my last chance, but I'm really scared - of the life change, of the diet change, of the surgery, of the loose skin, even of being thin.
  6. I am on the liver-shrinking diet (all liquid), with surgery on December 1. Will probably be on mushies by Christmas. My husband and I are staying home alone for Thanksgiving, even though we got a few invitations from family and friends. We're going to stay in our pajamas all day, read, and nap together. He's going to order Chinese food delivered so I don't have to cook anything. No one knows about my surgery, except my husband, adult son, mom and one best friend. Everyone else knows that I'm on a doctor-ordered liquid diet, with food to be re-introduced into my diet slowly and in small portions. That is the truth, isn't it? Several family members have said things like, "Oh that makes sense - it's breaking a food addiction, like pushing the reset button." I like that, and it's true. Just not the whole truth, and frankly, it's none of their business. Everyone has been very supportive of my 'diet,' and understand why we turned down all invitations for Thanksgiving. But I know they would not all be supportive if they knew 85% of my stomach will be removed! By Christmas, everyone will know that only certain soft foods in small portions have been re-introduced into my 'diet' and will not be asking questions or pushing food on me. I'm comfortable with this small deception, because it will allow me to keep my private business to myself, while allowing my family and friends to be supportive and helpful. I'm so sorry for some of you that have posted here about family members 'outing' your surgery. The four people that know about my surgery are absolutely trustworthy, and they know that they are the only ones I have trusted with the whole truth. Later, when I am a fraction of my former self, I may 'confess,' but then again, maybe not.... Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
  7. I've been on the liver shrinking diet for a week, and have not cheated AT ALL. I went to see my doctor today, and I have lost ten pounds in that week! He said my liver is smaller, and I still have one more week to be on the liver shrinking diet before my surgery on December 1. After the doctor appointment, I went and CELEBRATED with a BURGER AND FRIES!!! I ate ALL of it. Is this going to set back my surgery, or cause problems with it, if I stay on the diet all the next week without cheating at all? Can't believe I did that... sigh...
  8. Yolanda, how are you feeling now? Do you still have pain? I'm a little apprehensive, but I think it's because I'm not sure what to expect. Eight more days!
  9. Thanks, everyone! I am going to stick to my liver shrinking diet until my surgery date! I guess it felt like my 'last supper.' I can do this - thank you for your support!

    Calcium Citrate

Thanks, Tiffykins! I didn't know that about the calcium needing an acidic environment. Will find some calcium citrate to take! My surgery is in nine days! Very excited!

    Calcium Citrate

Tiffykins, you are an inspiration even when you're not being a cheerleader! I don't have my sleeve yet, but have been having the same trouble. I know we're supposed to take calcium citrate, and not the calcium that is in Tums, but what is really the difference? I keep Tums in my car, and would be able to take those with no problem. But if there is really a significant difference, I guess that's not a good idea. What do you think?
  12. Hi everyone~ I finally had the nerve to start posting regularly, and tell my story. I'm 55 years old and having VSG on 12/1/10 at Scripps, and my doctor is Dr. Bhoyrul in La Jolla, CA. He seems very competent, and I'm getting excited to start my new life. The decision to have WLS was made on 10/11/10, and I thought I wanted the Lap Band. My doctor and the psychologist I had to see for insurance reasons both said my personality type would do better with gastric bypass. (Apparently, I am 'unstructured,' whatever that means.) After reading everything I could find on RnY, Fobi Pouch, VSG, etc., I decided the VSG is best for me. My insurance approved the surgery on 11/17, surgery scheduled for 12/1/10, and I started the liver shrinking diet today. A couple weeks ago I weighed 342, today 338. I'm hoping to lose quite a bit the next two weeks on the Lovely Liver Diet. Evidently, if I were a goose, I'd be a prime specimen - nice and fat with a huge liver!
  13. I'm on the fourth day of my liver shrinking diet, and I feel much better now. I think I just had to get used to it. Would love to eat something, of course, but it's not worth it. Ten more days, Lisabug!

29 Years Old & Getting the Sleeve

nectar is the BOMB!!! It's so much better than the other Protein powders I've tried. I can live with using that as a protein supplement for the rest of my life, and it comes in about ten flavors. I wouldn't call it delicious, the way Pepsi is delicious, but it is definitely drinkable and not thick and nasty at all. That's all I wanted to say.

    Eating everday

Dansha, I noticed your ticker says you were sleeved on 8/17 and have lost 101 pounds! That is incredible - congratulations! My surgery is on 12/1 and I am on the liquid liver shrinking diet for 11 more days. Can't wait to be able to chew something besides my vitamins!

29 Years Old & Getting the Sleeve

My surgery is secret, too. Only my husband, mom and best friend know. I started to tell a couple people last week, but when the subject came up they were so negative I just kept my mouth shut. They can wonder why I'm suddenly losing weight after being unsuccessful for 20 years! At least I have you guys to talk to! My surgery is on December 1. I am very excited, but having trouble choking down the Protein drinks. I've been reading that most people like nectar better, so tomorrow morning I'm off to the store! 12 more days!
  17. Thank you, all three of you! I made my decision to go for the sleeve, and my surgery is set for December 1. I'm getting excited, not scared any more. I'm on the liver shrinking diet (my doc requires all liquids) and because my liver is huge I started it on 11/17. This is the second day, and I'm starving and feel weak, but I'm sure I'll live! Thank you for your encouragement!
  18. My doc wants me on the liver shrinking liquids for 2 weeks. It's been 2 days, and I am feeling really weak already! But somehow I'll get through it - I know I won't starve to death. Twelve more days - seems like a long way away, but I'm getting excited! Lisabug, you and I will be having ours the same day - I'll be thinking of you!

    December 2010 Sleevers!

My surgery is on December 1, with Dr. Bhoyrul in La Jolla, CA. I've started the liquid liver shrinking diet, and am feeling really weak. My doc wants me to drink 2 Protein drinks, broth, sugar free Jello, one cup of skim milk or nonfat yogurt. Twelve days till surgery - hope I can make it! Right now I'm too tired to make Jello! I'm such a wimp.

Pre-op Liquid Protein Diet & snacks

I'm on the same diet as klus263 - all liquid, from today until my surgery date December 1. I'm starving right now, so I'm going to go to bed so I won't think about it! I'm sure I'll get through it, and I know for sure I won't starve to death! If I were a Christmas goose, I'd be the perfect one to roast - nice and fat with a giant liver! Hang in there - we can do this!
  21. Thank you! That was exactly what I needed!
  22. Hi - this is totally off topic, but how do I get my weight loss ticker to attach to my posts?
  23. Sure hope she's okay. It's scary to not hear back. I'm having VSG on 12/1 and I'm looking forward to it, but would love to know what happened to JG first! Oh well - will keep her in my prayers.
  24. Still no news from JG? Has anyone heard back from her?
