Everyone Says Something Different!
we11ro replied to armstrong1003's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Wow, in reading the replies there ARE a lot of different times. My Doc / Bariatric Center said it was 15 and 30. They said for gastric bypass it was 30 and 30. I would just go with your doctors recommendation though. I would take it seriously though, because my nutritionist said it is the number 1 reason for re-weight gain after weight-loss surgery. Best of luck! -
New To The Site! February Date Scheduled! Question!
we11ro replied to Kya's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kya, Congrats on your surgery choice an date!! I do not regret this surgery at all! It has been 4 weeks TODAY!!! I can totally see the change in my face and body!!! No one at works knows but everyone keeps commenting on either how good I look or that something is different about me. Since beginning this journey I have lost about 25 lbs. I suffered with back and knee pain prior and have not had either since surgery. Recup is really personalized I find but doable! I was back to work 11 days after surgery. My biggest complaint was the tug of my sutures on the inside. Wearing a binder or spanx can help keep all the jiggly fat still which help with the sutures. I did not have to take my pain medication much once home. I bought some liquid children's motrin and that helped with pain with the sutures more than the narcotic. Regarding your ambien and any meds contact your doc. It should be fine size wise to crush (when in doubt). I have to tell you that even my best male friend said that, "once your skinny you will not have time for me". It is really a male insecurity. It is reasonable but I know how it can feel annoying. Make him feel as good as excited about the new you as you feel. I have not tried many different Protein drinks but I drink Carnation Instant No Sugar added chocolate drink. Best of Luck....p.s. Feb 8 i my birthday!!!! I will be celebrating for you!!!!! -
HOW BAD DOES IT REALLY HURT after surgery?
we11ro replied to onedivanms's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Hey Kimmes, I am excited for you! I had my surgery Dec 10th. The biggest pain was the one spot where they open the muscle. The sutures where they close the muscle back is probably your biggest pain but for me everything came in different stages. I was able to walk around the same day of surgery (post). It was hard to maneuver in bed but doable. You may feel pain immediately after but they will have pain meds. for you. Once I was home I was able to avoid pain med until evening. No nausea or vomiting. Thankfully. I did throw up twice in hospital but both times it was right after a nap. No nausea but it was miserable considering you dont have much to throw up and you have had stomach surgery. They gave me nausea and pain meds immediately. Both work pretty immediately. I was able to go back to work after 11 days. Everyone is different but I think you will be fine. God will indeed keep you and will not bring you to anything you can not bare! Best of luck! T -
Thank you all. I have been experiencing some pain on my right side, which is a bummer since I seem to finally get over the suture pain. I hate to be a complainer. I have not been going to the bathroom regularly and it all is worrying. I feel like I took 2 steps backward. I am going to play it out and definitely take it easy. I pray this is not result of a hernia.

Trouble taking chewable vitamins

I was able to find the liquid Multivitamin supplement at Walgreens. In fact it is their brand. Hopefully this helps someone. -
does restriction actually start once you're on solids?
we11ro replied to peatie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery Dec. 10th. I remember being advised to drink slowly. I could not drink a lot in the hospital because I would get a cramping feeling at the top of my stomach. once I left and I got thirsty I had to remember that we are suppose to drink slowly. 8 ounces in an hour. It is great that you have no trouble getting your liquids goals in for the day but do practice drinking slower it will prepare you too for eating slower. Even if you have no problem when you are eating you should still eat slowly. I kind of look at the physical discomfort as a physical reminder to slow down but I dont like the feel so I try to avoid the reminder! LOL! I also find things are happening in weird stages for me. I was drinking and eating fine and now a few days later I am getting that discomfort like the food is stuck. I have to get someone to hit my back to get it moving. So, just take it slow and see how your body responds day by day because it can change. Be encouraged! -

BE ENCOURAGED! I agree, your stress does not help your weight-loss. You are losing weight!!! This is not the biggest loser...we are not always gonna pull double digit losses every week. If you do great and if you don't don't let that determine the success for this journey. You have made a decision to take back your life! That is great! My dad who always had a snide remark about my weight told me after returning home from surgery that he was proud of me. I could not believe it. I believe your mom will be too. Don't stress yourself unnecessarily. Just because mom paid does not mean it is her journey. It is yours. You did it for you and no one else. Remember that this is a tool to weight-loss. It is not the magic pill. While the surgery deals with the amount of food that affects our weight we must begin to deal with the emotional and other causes that effect our weight gain. In the meanwhile BE ENCOURAGED by the new choices, achievements and all the possibilities! Remember how you felt while preparing for the surgery? Remember that excitement??! Go back to those moments and enjoy the possibilities! Dream of them! Get rid of the scale!!!!!! Get rid of the scale!!!! You are doing a great job!!! -
Hi Everyone, I am new to the site. I am now 8 days post op. I have noticed that my entry points / bruises are drying but they are hurting. Especially the larger bruise to the right of my belly button. This is the area that hurt the most because of the muscle that was stretched during surgery for the tools used. It hurts even if I bend my head down, walk, turn in bed etc. I have been doing well otherwise. I only take pain med at night but I took it earlier tonight. Is it possible I did too much moving and bending. I have been up and out house since Wednesday. Is this pain just from the healing? Should I be in bed? Thanks!
