  1. I went to a support group before I had the surgery and this exact subject was brought up. There were 4 people in the group that were having the same issue with their spouses. I know she's thinking that you'll lose weight and then leave her. That's actually her being selfish and not you. The comment she made about your daughter is the exact opposite. You will die much faster if you continue on the obesity path. Let's just say uhm heart attack. I'm sure you both know that the dieting wasn't working. She should want you healthy so you will be around for her and your children. It will improve all aspects of your life in love and in energy to play with your children. This surgery's not going to kill you but obesity will not to mention how many years it takes off your life. Have you tried to get her to go to a support meeting with you? Maybe if she sees your success with the surgery she might want to have it too. I am 3 weeks out and had other health problems and I'm fine. The first 3 days were rough but I never had any upset stomach. I was just sore but the nurses were awesome at giving me anything I needed for pain and nausea. The whole key is if you are in pain let them know and they'll give you something. They want you as comfortable as possible. I had read all these forums about being sick and sore so I was expecting the worse. I was shocked when I was totally fine, never threw up, and was back to norm for the most by the 4th day. I think it's more of a insecurity issue then anything and you need to stress to her how much you'll love her no matter what. I would also let her know how important it is for your success in the long term after this surgery for her support. It is horribly hard when you are on small amounts of foods and can't have the grease and pizza anymore to have to watch someone else do it in front of you. Hopefully you're whole family will learn a new lifestyle and eating habits because of this. When you go to your nutrition meeting ask her to go. It would also be beneficial after surgery to stay seeing the psych a few visits with her. I think assurance is all she needs so she'll have confidence the relationship will hold. Don't be discouraged from having this surgery, it really is the best decision for your health and I wish you well.
  2. I've lost 24 lbs since surgery and I'm just starting my 3rd week out and hopefully mashed foods this week. I've been at a stand still with my weight the last 3 days. I hope that changes soon.

  3. I'm one week out of surgery and lost 17lbs. The first 3 days were hell but now each day is better. I'm still hungry so maybe it's head hunger. I have to keep the tv off b/c there's food commericials every 3 mins. I'm sick of the shakes and will be glad when I get to mashed food stage.

  4. I was told that my oxygen was going low too and was asked if I had ever been tested for sleep apnea. It scared the crap out of me. I never knew I had any problems breathing at night. It's something I'm probably going to have to look more into but the good thing about this surgery is it aids that problem. I also gained a few pounds from fluid too. I'm 5 days out of surgery and still not weight loss.
  5. I lost 22 pounds in my 2 week liver shrinking diet and in the hospital I noticed I had gained back 3lbs. I am 4 days out of surgery and have gained and I was following everything perfectly. I am also frustrated because I expected to at least lose not gain. I talked to my surgeon and he told me that before surgery and during your hospital stay, they pump you full of fluids in your IV. So some people experience swelling of the ankles, feet, hands, and arms that is from the fluid. The fluid makes them have weight gain. However, once the fluid is urinated out over a couple weeks you will notice the weight loss. I'm not saying this is what is going on with you but it's something to consider that could be the problem.

    No Protein Yet Today

Ha Ha, I adore you for saying this "come to think of it I just am not a big fan of eating anything with a face and this is not moral or political, I just...you know, maybe the face is still down there, getting ready to haunt the shit out of me." That sounds exactly like something I'd say, lol. Trust me I'm dealing with pretty much the same. I'm 4 days out of surgery and can't stand the shakes. I have tried the unjury which tastes like Injury and the Bariatric (Dis)Advantage powders. They were all awful to me. However, I know the importance of Protein in order for this surgery to be successful and to keep my muscles from poofing. I went to GNC and got unflavored whey protein isolate powder. I have become a master at mixing it into everything. I prefer drinking drinks like Vitamin Water Zero , Crystal Light, Mio, Arizona Caffeine Free Diet Green Tea, etc.. So I just put a little in so I can get about 15 grams of protein in each drink and I switch them up so I don't get bored. I don't load a lot into the drinks because I don't want them to be thick. I just drink more which is no problem because I need to stay hydrated anyways. This also helps me because I'm lactose intolerant. We won't even go there. My surgeon is dead set on minimum 60 grams of protein a day. I heard "Protein Protein Protein " so much prior to surgery that I went to call my Propane company to pay my bill and the receptionist asked "How may I help you?" and I said "I need to pay my Protein bill" instead of Propane. I've been making Jello, pudding, and yogurt and mixing the unflavored in it too, works for me. I think it will be better when I get into the "mashed" food stage. Protein is important for the success of this surgery, your health, and the weight you'll lose. You just have to experiment and I think in time you'll find something that will work for you. Good luck!

    acrylic nails?

My surgeon makes patients remove theirs and all nail polish. They can check for hydration and clots by looking at the color of your nails so it's pretty important.
  8. I was told by my surgeon that carbonated beverages can cause bloating which can swell the stomach, cause acid reflux, deteriorate the stomach lining over time, can cause ulcers over time, and gas is certain. I was a Diet Cherry Pepsi-holic so that sucked for me. As far as the caffeine goes the day after my surgery I was given a 6 oz cup of unsweetened tea on my meal tray with a pack of Splenda and a Boost. I tried it out but it tasted like crap. I'm Southern I need my sweet tea so if I can't have it like I want it then I prefer to not have it at all. I've been drinking Vitamin Water Zero and the new Mio's where you squirt it into the drink. They are the two things I tolerate the best and they are no carbon, no caffeine, low sodium, and still taste sweet and good to me. I just prefer not to risk it being how hard this whole process has been on me.

    Got Milk!

I'm glad you posted this. I got my sleeve on April 4th and I'm having major problems with milk. My doc told me to try Boost Glucose Control but I still have problems with it. I think I may look into the muscle milk you mentioned. I just have to watch the calories and fat. If anyone else can recommend a non fat lactose free milk product I could mix with my meal replacement powder or protein powder let me know.
  10. Congrats! I got my sleeve on the 4th. I've been dealing with the gas pains too and also swelling from all the fluids they gave me through the IV. The doc gave me a med to help with it and also walking helps a lot. I'm still sore but was happy I could start eating jello and yogurt today, lol. I wish you the best!
  11. My surgery is Monday April 4th at 7am. I'm getting nervous but I'm excited too. I know it's going to be rough at first but I'm going to stay strong.
