Banded in June, just found out that I'm pregnant

Thank you so much! It's so exciting!!! So anyhoo, an update. I'm down in California, and I saw my surgeon today. There is only 2cc's in my band and I haven't even gotten my first fill yet. He has decided to just leave my band as is, and if I end up having problems with nausea, I can come back down and he'll do an unfill. I also had an HCG test to see how well my levels are doing, and they were 205, so I'm right where I need to be for being pregnant for 5 weeks and 3 days! Getting excited My parents have even planned a party to Celebrate with our family and extended family!! -

I got the digital tests. They ROCK. They are a little more expensive, but worth every penny. Best of luck to you!

13 Weeks Pregnant - I think my band has slipped
roziecakes replied to nora_tx's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I haven't really had any problems with vomiting, although I have been nauseated... Only 5 weeks along though, so I suspect that the vomiting may occur. Getting all fluid out this Friday, and I'm praying that I won't have a slip when the fime comes for getting really sick. Scared! I hope that you are feeling better. Did you find out if you actually had a slip or not?! -

Also, I'm still losing weight! Doctor said that's probably going to be normal for at least a little while. -

Hello everyone! I have been busy, so I haven't had much chance to post on the board! Phew! Anyhoo, I am going to see my surgeon this Friday, I have an appointment. He says that what he's going to do is unfill the 2cc's that he put in my band to begin with, and that after my pregnancy is over, he will start doing fills again. He says that everything should be fine, and that he, I and my nutritionist will discuss special Vitamins and nutritional needs, which I'll of course share with everyone here. I also got my due date, April 17, 2011!! Which means I'm just about 5 weeks. The only real concern is my hypothyroidism, I have to take some special vitamins, currently, over the phone, my GP has told me to take a selenium supplement, as it will help prevent developmental problems. -
Hi everyone, I'd love to hear from other women who have gotten pregnant after having their band. So I have always been told that I would never have children because of various health issues, I think I even remarked that on a thread that someone else posted that was similar... but well, I'm pregnant! I found out last night, and took a test this morning to confirm it. I don't know what else to say except this is nothing short of a miracle. If anyone wants to share their band baby experience and if you had a lot of complications, or what was easy, what worked, what didn't, please let me know!

So guess what... ME TOO! Just found out. I am still in shock and awe. Guess losing weight helps with PCOS. My mom's response was "Well, I guess you're getting healthier." HOLY CRAP!
-
I've also been having this problem, and I was concerned as well. I figured I would address it with my doc, I'm going in for my first fill in a little over a week. It didn't start happening until about a week ago (I'm a little over 2 months post-op). Glad I'm not the only one.

WOW!!!! You are incredible, and a true inspiration! GOOD JOB!!!

I've never heard of that at all! In fact, my PCOS was one of the main reasons the lap band was suggested to me. My doctor said it's one of the best weightloss tools for women with PCOS because normally weightloss is so slow for them. I am sorry for your experience, I would try a different doctor if possible!

OMGosh, this is probably my favorite post of the entire day! Congratulations to you!!!!!!!!! As a longtime sufferer of PCOS and other various reproductive issues, babies have long been off my radar, and I gave up years ago the idea of ever having children, so I know how that part of it feels. I am completely impressed and happy for you! Also, I've heard that 'band babies' are somewhat common, as women end up gaining back their fertility when they start losing weight. I have a friend who is a fellow bandster, and she got pregnant right after getting her band, and her little son is a healthy 3 year old now, so I know it's possible to have a healthy pregnancy with the band. Good luck with everything! How exciting!

I can do chicken just fine if I chew the heck out of it. -
Post-op Challenges
roziecakes replied to Sweetnurselyd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a wonderful thread. I love to read success stories, and a success story can be a success story even for a new bander, I think. I hope your determination is inspiring to others who are at the same stage as you. Best of luck, and good job!! -
Complete lap band unfill
roziecakes replied to LookatmeNow34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awww, hope you feel better soon! That sounds terrifying, not being able to eat or drink. -
Sometimes I get something like this, but only in my upper back. It's the weirdest thing!

Couldn't feel better...
roziecakes replied to Cpt. Ahab's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awesome! You and I are in a similar place progress-wise. I'm almost at my two month bandiversary. My first fill is scheduled for the 19th of August (I have to go to California and schedule it around work and such, so that's why it's so late after my surgery). Thanks so much for such a wonderful progress update!!! -
Great job! These are the posts I love to read It's so inspiring and encouraging. WOOHOO!

Sitting in a chair
roziecakes replied to jeeptrk03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will be uncomfortable for a little while, but it definitely goes away fairly soon. I think I was about a week and a half post-op before all pain stopped, and even then I still had some port twinges if I bent over. -
Getting my band tomorrow!!
roziecakes replied to ChelseaM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The best advice I can give is, follow what your surgeon says to do to the letter, walk walk walk as much as you can afterward to help the gas pains (hopefully you won't have any). Don't compare your progress to others, make this journey your OWN, and LISTEN to your body!! Good luck!!! You'll do awesome -
Congratulations! These are my favorite kinds of posts!!!

No weight loss for 2 weeks :(
roziecakes replied to rowekins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, track all of that! It's true. It helps me also to just write down everything that I put in my mouth and to also keep track of how much water I drink too. I've also been keeping an exercise log. -
To me the RNY is a last choice for people who just can't lose weight any other way and have a gigantic amount to lose! I wouldn't consider a BMI for 34.4 a gigantic amount for such an invasive procedure. I had a BMI of 50 when I got my band, and I still would rather have gone the direction I did. I'm also not sure where you heard that RNY had less risks, I have been told the opposite by almost every doctor I've talked to. Of course, what it all boils down to, is that it's your body, and no one can tell you what to do. However, I would personally see how well the band works for you, since you just got it. It's not a quick fix, but it has a high success rate, so if you work your band right, it will do right for you. Good luck!
