    Banded yesterday!

Congratulations to both of you!! I hope that all continues to go well for you!! Congrats on the walking, that's what really helped me, and a heating pad was my best friend.

    2wk or Long Pre-Op Diet

That sounds amazingly good. An iced caramel machiatto happens to be my favorite Starbucks Beverage.... om nom nom.

    Posting Reality Check

This is SO true! Being realistic and talking about the negative stuff is much different than trying to bring others down. I think that some of the negative patterns that have made some of us overweight have to do with a 'victim' or 'misery loves company' complex. Some people need tragedy and drama to feel comfortable. My ex-husband was like that. Note that I said 'ex' husband. I just didn't need that in my life. Thanks for this thread by the way.
  4. That's good to know! You always give everyone such good advice, so I trust what you have to say. Thank you!
  5. Don't feel bad about bragging! You should be proud!! Good for you!!!

    not hungry

I actually felt hunger pangs the first day, and have since, but they haven't been so horrible as to cause me to eat too much. Being on mushies has helped curb them somewhat.

    AUNT FLOW

I have had irregular periods due to PCOS since I was 17; but since I started really working on losing weight last year, they have become more regular, albeit very heavy. I had my period 3 days after I got banded (boy was that fun), and it was very normal flow-wise. I hope that it's normal next time too. My doctor says that ladies who have PCOS often find that when they are able to lose weight they will start having regular periods again, and may become fertile. My partner has a vasectomy, so I don't expect to be having any babies, but a normal cycle would be nice.

    Last hole on the belt!

    This is awesome news! Congratulations!
  9. I am glad you're feeling better about things now. I'm really appreciative that you posted this thread though because it answered a lot of questions for me as well! Thank you!

    2wk or Long Pre-Op Diet

My pre-op diet was a month, but I only had to have liquids only for the last week. I wasn't given a set time so much as I was told to lose 20 pounds and to stick to a 1200 calorie or less diet / day.
  11. I haven't had any PBs, sliming or nausea at all either. I do burp more than I used to though, nothing productive though, just gas. I think that it probably happens for a number of reasons, and I have heard that some just don't ever get them. I hope that you're one of them (and me too...)

    Feeling Terrible

I think you'll feel better soon. Walking really does help. I walked A LOT and I only had gas pains for about three days. I'm a little over a week post-op and I am completely out of pain. And yes, do take your pain medicine if you need it. As my partner says, "You don't get points for being in pain. If you need it, take it! That's why they gave it to you." I found that I needed it most at night. I had to sleep in the recliner for a couple of days and take my pain meds. In the last couple days I've been able to sleep on either side again, which has been wonderful. You'll do just fine! Congratulations on your band.
  13. Thank you for posting this thread. I was wondering this too, and I also have been obsessing over how much I eat, and I have been hungry between meals but have been sticking to it anyway. I think I need to increase Protein, which is probably easier now that I'm on mushies. I've also been freaked out that I'm losing too much. I have lost 14 pounds since surgery and it's only been a week and two days. My mom says it's probably Water weight. I suppose this really is the 'bandster hell' of which has been spoken. My surgeon says that the most we should be doing in the first six weeks if focusing on our healing... and I suppose he's right. Relaxing is probably the best thing for us to do... difficult though. It's a mixed back of fear and excitement.

    Exercise ideas???

Oh of course Belly Dancing!! I am going to be starting that pretty soon. I can't wait. I have a lot of friends who are in the local belly dance guild, and I've wanted to start learning for a long time. Good suggestion!
  15. I'm not going to generalize men, since I know a lot of men who think about what they say, my partner included; but I am sorry to hear that he said this to you. My guess is he feels insecure about his own weight or appearence, and is jealous of your weightloss. Don't let it get to you unless he does it on a regular basis. Just try to look at the accomplishments that you have made. I think you're doing awesome, 50 pounds! You ROCK!
  16. I had the same problem at first, but now that I'm on mushies, everything is fine. Adding a pureed banana REALLY helps. Bananas have enzymes that help when you have diarrhea.

    Post Op

Congratulations!!! I knew you were going to do just fine. I am a week and two days out now, and I feel pretty much like myself again. I even cleaned out the fish pond yesterday. Today I'm going to start my yoga routine again. I think you are going to do just fine! You're right, listen to what your surgeon says and go to it! Best of luck.

    Exercise ideas???

Here's another vote for lifting weights, it helps keep your skin taut too; also my big thing that I love is yoga! I have lost 60 pounds since Christmas, and 40 since starting my pre-op diet, and I owe a lot of it to yoga. It's low impact, you can modify the moves for your body, and it really does burn calories. I love it!!! There are actually videos out there for larger people as well. I understand about not being able to get a good workout from walking where you live. I live in an area that's mostly farmland, and everything is flat. There are mountains nearby, but not really close enough just for a morning walk. I do walk 2 miles a day though, but I have to walk really fast to get my heart rate up.
  19. I recommend trying yoga as well!

    Any 30 - 34 BMIs

I have a much higher BMI than you (started out at 50, now it's 46), but I'll weigh in (pardon the pun). The fact is, every person is so different, and all of our needs are different. Weight affects everyone differently. I am appalled that anyone would be so judgmental as to tell you that you don't need the band, or that because you have a lower BMI than most who get the band means that you should just try to lose another way. Only you and your doctor know best. Some people do have comorbidities and other problems that make losing weight difficult with a smaller BMI. It's all so personal. Good luck to you folks! I hope that whatever you need to find the best health possible happens for you.

    Any june 2011 Banders???

Good luck to you!!! Don't feel weird about being scared of being skinny. This is a big change, and it's normal to be scared about such a big change. Hope your surgery goes well.

    Any june 2011 Banders???

I'm back home in Oregon working at my own desk today. Went in for my post-op appointment. I have lost 12 pounds total since the surgery (one week ago today). I suspect it is water weight. I got my staples out, and they have been replaced with steri-strips, and I got the okay to start transitioning to mushies. Woohoo! Hope everyone else is doing well!
  23. I did... I had a couple times where I just couldn't stand it, and I did cheat. The best thing you can do is just not beat yourself up about it. When you beat yourself up about it you can get in a guilt cycle, which might make you more likely to emotionally eat. Just look at everything like it's a step on your journey. We are all human, we make mistakes. You can look at the mistake and learn from it. Just use it as a tool for the next time you want to cheat. Really consider if it's worth it to you. And although I cheated a couple of times on my pre-op diet, I still lost a good amount of weight before surgery, and was just fine. Best of luck to you! You are going to do great!
  24. Thank you for the nice note! As of today I have not one bit of pain anywhere. I'm pretty hungry, but I'm keeping it at bay with sugar free popsicles, but I'm being well-behaved on my liquids. Tomorrow I go in to get the staples out, and to see when I can advance to mushies. I helped my mom clean her house this morning, and I'm trying to walk 2+ miles/day. I've lost about 10 pounds since the surgery, but I think most of it is Water weight, as the places where I see it on my body are in my face, wrists, ankles and feet.
