Thats good to know. I have had to pass on duties like feeding the kids and buying food to hubby right now because I can't even deal with it. Heck I had to fork over my debit card and cash so I won't feel the need to stop for fast food. But hey I am starting to enjoy sugar free jello so I guess that is a plus! Are you getting so ecxited for your surgery?

Susannah how can you stand it. I hate being such a whiner but I am unbelievably miserable on this stuff. I feel exhausted all the time and totally depressed that I can't eat. Heck I am even craving healthy food like grilled fish or cottage cheese.

This girl is sooo jealous of those who do not have to do a liquid diet or only have one week of it. My two weeks are killing me and I am only on day 3. I am so sick of shakes and optifast soup.

I have not had my surgery yet but I did choose to attend a support meeting last week. Basically it was just people talking about how their month was and any issues or problems they are having. The coordintor has told me that usually there is a guest speaker- next month will be a plastic surgeon for those comnsidering tummy tucks and such, march there will be a psychologist, sometimes they have a nutritionist or someone talking about vitamins. It was nice to hear about peoples experiences.

Blondylocks, I believe Carnation make a lactose free instant breakfast. Or maybe try some Isopure and some vitamins. Your Dr. could probably help you find something.

OKay one day into my liquid diet. I did it. I hate it, but I did it. I had the worst day at work today and now I understand just how much food comforts me. I cried and cried and cried the whole way home because I knew all I could eat was my garden tomato optifast soup. I am doing better now but wow was that hard. I got my optifast from my doctor. I am not allowed the bars only liquid and I can have 1 sugar free jello per day if I want it. I was given the chicken soup, tomato soup, vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry shakes. They are not bad tasting but they certainly taste like diet food. I have to eat 5 per day so I am just having one of each daily to change it up. Also if you are allowed to have diet soda try mixing the vanilla with diet root beer or diet orange soda. It made a pretty tasty drink today once the foam settled down. It would probably be better to use flat soda. I also walked for 30 minutes today on my break. I found a coworker to keep my company and hold me accountable daily so we are going to walk every day. I just can't wait until it is warmer outside so we can walk around the hospital and not through it. Let's see, oh my weekend was fun. I got to hang out with my girlfriends and do a few things that will be off limits after surgery. (Mostly involving alcohol lol) and I had my last "last dinner". Yeah who puts on 10 pounds in a month from overeating...yup me. I was definitly getting out of control. Well hope everyone is having a good day TTYL.

Okay well this is my last free weekend so I have to go out with a bang. My friends and I are having our yearly girl's weekend going up north for Tip Up Town which is this big winter festival in Michigan. Lot's of food and drinks. I start my optifast on Monday and I found 2 walking buddies at work so I will be starting my exercise on MOnday too!!!

Wow that is amazing!!!!

Tracy you will be fine! Just be honest in giving your answers. At my consult the psychologist wanted to know why i thought I was over wieght, how I thought the band would help me, and we talked about was with how to deal with my emotions after surgery since I will not be able to eat my emotions away anymore. It was pretty painless and kind of nice to get out any fears that I had. My whole session was talking though I did not have to take an assement. Don't think of it as so much of a test but more of an assessment of who you are.

The waiting is the hardest part. It felt like forever when I had to wait for 3 weeks to see the Doctor. Not like 3 weeks is really a long time but it felt like an eternity. I feel really lucky that I was able to set up all of my appointments right away and not ahve to wait for one thing to be done before I could do another. I am so not a patient person!

Has anyone been banded in MX with severe sleep apnea?

I know my Mom has vacationed in Mexico and taken her CPAP machine. As for whether you are allowed to use it or not I don't ahve that answer. -
Optifast Question: re caffeine
babygrl1234 replied to susannah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have to do optifast and there were several people in my meeting (we have to take two classes pre surgery) who had questions about coffee. Basically the nurse said it is better to try and ween yourself off of it now because after the surgery you really shouldn't have any for a least 3 months since it dehydrates you and you are just getting used to your small stomach. It is much better to have water and you need to make sure you can get enough water down before adding something that dehydrates you. -
You should be fine. You still have plenty of time as long as you get started soon. I have to do optifast from the 22nd until my surgery in Feb. and my nurse said I can eat whatever I want up until then.

Kedasmom-I also have BCBS though I am in Michigan. I think I was just lucky because my Dr. had already put me on the diet 6 months before I went to my first seminar. So I already had that documentation and I still had more from after sicne I did not decide to do it until Nov. I still had to have bloodowork, Upper GI, psych evaluation, and turn in more documentation of past dieting attempts. Again luckily I always kept my weight watcher record books and diet diaries every time I had tried a diet so I had ton of stuff to give to my coordinator. Plus my coordinator is on the ball. She is really one of the most helpful people in this whole process. I start my liquids on the 22. UGH.

Most everyone I have told have been very supportive. I will talk about it to anyone who will listen. Especially those who think it is the "easy" way out. I want them to have all the knowledge possible and know how hard it is going to be and how careful I am going to have to be about eveything that goes in my mouth. Everyone at work knows about it but then again seeing as I work in the operating room of the hospital I am having it done in everyone is going to find out anyhow when my name is up on the board. Everyone has been very supportive.

I am surprised at how relatively easy my experience has been. I went to a meeting about bariatrics back in June last year. I had already been seeing my doctor who had me on a diet and I really just wanted to see what it was all about. All I had ever heard about was the bypass so the info on the band was all new stuff to me. I was on the fence about it and figured I would give it more time and on Thanksgiving I just decided to go for it. I went to work the next day and talked to the coordinator (I am getting the surgery through the hospital I work at) and she gave me all the info I fill out. I gave her all my doctors note and she took care of the insurance for me and we got everything scheduled. I actually could have had my surgery on the 22 of this month but I have a trip planned with some friends on the 19th and I need that "last supper" so to say before starting my liquids. I am really excited.

I had my psych eval yesterday and everything went great. She was probably one of the coolest professionals I have ever met. I think mostly because she dropped the F-bomb a lot. But she has had a band for two years now so she could really go into detail on how it is to have one and how I am going to react to certain situations. But she told me she would clear me for my surgery!!! So now I am done, I just have to wait. I keep getting a bit more excited and a bit more scared each day. Scared mostly I think of the anesthesia since I have never been in surgery before. But I ma still really excited. The next big step will be my optifast starting Jan 22. Now that will be interesting to say the least.
