    February 2007 bandsters!

Chris- most doctors want you on some sort of a diet to shrink your liver before surgery. Some have very strict guidelines to follow and others don't seem to mind. It is the doctors personal preference.

    Help! Vitamins Question

I am getting my chewables from www.bariatricadvantage.com I am getting the multivitamin, iron ( is what you are thinking of for menstrating females), and the calcium citrate. A year supply which worked out to be about $30 a month which is a little pricey but I will be saving more than that by not eating fast food anymore.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Chris- you know I spent some time thinking about that stuff too. Except I had my surgery date changed from Jan 23 to Feb 6 so I could go on my yearly weekend up north with my friends. It was lots of fun and I am glad that I went but at the same time I wish I would ahve just stayed home and had the surgery. I would be done now and not freaked out with a week of optifast left lol.

    February 2007 bandsters!

I am excited and worried too. I know this is going to be the best thing in the world for me. I know how much it is going to help me in the quality of life. Yet I am freaked out that I could be that 1 in 2000. Not even for myself but for my family. I am only 26 I have two small children. That is what scares me. My coordinator has been reassuring me that I am so healthy and I am going to come out of this fine. She tells me people twice my age, some with many many complications go through this surgery and come out fine so I need not be worried. I just can't help it I am a natural worrier. Wow some of us are going in in just 2 days!!! I will be in in one week. It is so crazy amzing to think about really.

    Optifast Question

Andrew you lucky duck. I am on 5 shakes per day, no other foods! Well except for sugar free jello. But how much jello can a girl who dislikes jello eat?

    February 2007 bandsters!

Melissa- I have told everyone! I actually work in the OR of the hospital where I am getting my surgery done so hiding it is not really an option for me! Everyone has been very supportive. One of my coworkers has started walking daily with me and is really good about keeping me motivated. Everyone has seen my Optifast and have been very good about not eating super delicious things in front of me. Don't worry too much about your dinners out. At first it might be difficult when you have to eat certain foods but eventually you will be able to introduce most foods back into your diet, just at much smaller portions. And you will have to make sure you take smaller bites and chew more. I am looking forward to my surgery, mostly to get off of this Optifast. I am still a little nervous on how I am going to be with food. I am the first to admit I am miserable not being able to eat right now. I hope I will learn to cope without having a slice of pizza in my hands. Mom2sassy- I am way jealous of your bacon!!!!! And I think you can fix your ticker by switching the 0 and 88! Silry- you can do it! Just think of how tasty that Lean Cuisine is going to be after liquids alll day! I had last meal syndrome too. Everything was in excess. It was really bad. I have also been planning and getting my things together too. I have ordered my vitamins, iron and calcium (chewable from Bariatric Advantage) and I am getting some Isopure this week for protien drinks. I also need to get some unflavored protien powder to mix into things like oatmeal and yogurt.

    Optifast Question

I got mine from my doctors office. It works out to be about 10 dollars per day. I hate it and if you don't have to go on it I would not recommend it. Some people are just eating healthier for preop and I think that would be much less stressful. Maybe try something along the lines of a low carb-low fat diet? Like grillled chicken and fish and plenty of veggies. Right now that sounds heavenly compared to Optifast.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Hey Melissa I am getting banded on the 6th too. And as for the liquid diet I have been on it sicne last Tuesday because my Dr requires two weeks on Optifast. I am to the point now where I just plug my nose and chug it down. It is making me want to barf. Greg- Great job on the 18.5 pound loss so far! I have not wieghed myself yet (monday is my wiegh in day) so hopefully tomorrow I will see some sort of a loss from my Optifast and daily walking. I have definitly had more energy this weekend than usual so that is a good thing!

    Lapband in America

Right now in the US the hastric bypass is the wieght loss surgery of choice. I am not sure of the ratio but more people do opt for the bypass instead of the band. Many are just now learning of the band. When I went to my first seminar last May I went in to learn about the bypass. I never even knew about anything call a lapband. Boy was I educated. I left the seminar wanting a band so badly. I think right now because the band is still relativly new over here most people are not sure abuot wanting to use it. They may be scared they are going to eat around it or might just want the immediate results that the bypass will give them. It seems that many (not all) people in the states are very "now" oriented. They want everything today and to heck with the furture. SO they choose a surgery that may be more risky and may not last in the long run to get the immediate results. Again this is just my opinion on why the bypass is more popular, I am not saying that if you had a bypass this is the reason.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Hey I am working on it. actually I think I am going to be okay now. I will admit I cheated last night. I had a piece of toast with peanut butter on it and a glass of milk instead of my last shake. And you know what i really paid for it afterward. My stomach hurt so bad. I do not want to feel that way again for sure. I also feel like I need to workout too. I will have to go walking on my lunch break at work today.

    Discouraging Doctor! WTF

Maybe that particular Doctor is not very experienced with laproscopic surgery or just flat out prefers doing it open. If that is the case and you want a laproscopic band procedure then I am with everyone else in saying that you really need to find another doctor.

    Pre op diet

Did anyone who had to do Optifast before their band have such severe issues with it as I am having? I feel like an alcoholic trying to stay off of liquor only my liquor is food. I am so frustrated and tempted to eat and I have to call people to help keep me occupied so that I do not eat. I have followed my doctors orders thus far with my 5 shakes a day and some sugar free jello but I am so frustrated and miserable. I need to do this and I don't want to cheat, heck I have even incorporated 30 minutes of walking during my lunch break at work, but I am seriously going nuts when I get home and ahve to make dinner for the kids. Hubby has been doing what he can to help but he works three nights a week this week and next and I HAVE to make dinner for the kids. I am just so frustrated and looking at the prize at the end is not even helping. I don't know if I can make it though 9 more days of this.

    February 2007 bandsters!

I anyone else that is on liquids as obsessed with food as I am? I can't get my mind off of it and now that I want to eat so bad (just made the kids dinner) I am finding it necessary to plan my post op menu because I have to do something involving it.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Silry the emotional eating part is the hardest thing to overcome. I have realized how often I want to eat just because I feel like I need to, and now that I can't due to my liquid diet it has really put a huge strain on me in the last few days. I cry that I can't eat. I feel sick over it. It is better now than it was the first day but it still sucks. I had that half scared feeling/half super excited feeling too. Now that I am just over a week away I am more excited than anything. Mostly I htink because full liquid stage includes cottage cheese and I really really want something other than optifast. Congrats Twins, I have heard many good things about Dr. Deol. I am in Southeaster Michigan too but I am being banded by Dr. Bacal in Dearborn.
