    Could I be anemic?

I just had my blood pressure checked when I went to my GYN for a checkup a few days ago and it was fine. My multivitamin definitely has iron in it, I checked that first. I recently started eating greek yogurt for breakfast and make sure to have a protein bar every day to up my protein intake. Guess it's time to head to the doctor to find out what's happening.

One of the last accepted forms of prejudice

You're absolutely right. I was on Twitter the other day and one of the TTs was #onlyfatpeople. Everyone was posting things like "Only fat people tie their shoes before putting them on" or "Only fat people think of lunch while they eat breakfast." And this is considered acceptable. Obesity is an epidemic in this country and we are slowing killing ourselves with food. And yet people still think it's ok to poke fun. It's not funny and never has been. I wish people would wake up and see that obese people are human beings like everyone else, not scary monsters that should be reviled and ignored. Very sad.
  3. Mine is a couple inches below my belly button. It's good because my bra isn't rubbing against it all day, but after losing around 50 pounds it's sore if I lean against a hard surface, like the counter when I'm making dinner. I'm also a little nervous what will happen to it when I decide to have children, but that's a question for the doctor. All in all though, I'm pretty happy with the placement.

    Greek Yogurt

My fave so far is Chobani but it's expensive when it's not on sale. The Oikos isn't bad either but I don't think it's "the best in the world." I bought a couple containers of Fage to try so we'll see how that goes! Supposedly it was rated one of the top greek yogurts in flavor.

    Where is your port??

My port is a few inches below my belly button. It never used to bother me but now I notice if I'm leaning up against something (like the counter when I'm cooking) it feels sore. I guess it's because there's less padding to protect it, but believe me I'm not complaining about that! Otherwise it doesn't really bother me but I have been known to randomly poke it when I'm bored
  6. My doc says absolutely no carbonation whatsoever, but my fiance's doc says it's ok once in a while. Every doctor is different. I personally can't really tolerate carbonation so I just avoid it. It gives me terrible gas pains and it's just not worth it for me. If you can handle then by all means have a beer once in a while, but don't overdo it. Your tolerance will not be what it used to!
  7. We're not there yet, but my fiance and I are talking about having kids in the next few years. I have heard that many women have all the Fluid taken out of the band for the duration of their pregnancy. Is this a standard thing or is every doctor different? I'm terrified of gaining all the weight back, but I also want my child to be healthy and get enough nutrients and calories. What about morning sickness? Will all that vomiting hurt my band? Since I had the SILS procedure, my port is below my belly button. Will a growing belly have any effect on it? I know these are questions I should ask my doctor but my appointment isn't for another two weeks and it's kind of bugging me. It's not urgent so I don't want to call. Any insight you can give me would be greatly appreciated!!

    Paleo Diet for Bandsters

My fiance tried it and actually gained weight. Maybe it works better for bandsters (he'll be banded in February hopefully).

    Fill right before flying

The PAs at my doctor's office won't do a fill if you are traveling out of state in the two weeks following in case there are any problems. They never mentioned anything about air travel though. I just flew two months ago and didn't really notice any difference.
  11. I think that used to be a problem with the old bands (I went to a support group meeting where one of the older bandsters says he has to carry something that says he has a band when he goes through security), but everything is plastic nowadays. I just flew to North Carolina two months ago and had no problems.

How long did it take you?

I've had 5 fills so far. I don't have "restriction" in the sense that I can eat any food without a problem, but I find that I am satisfied with smaller amounts of food and I can go longer between meals without being "hangry" (I love that word, describes my hunger to a tee!). My PA doesn't tell me how much fluid is in my band or what size it is, but at my last fill she said I have "plenty of room left." Either I've been getting tiny fills or I have a huge band!
  13. This is a recipe that I found on the Lapband.com website. I made these for a BBQ I had yesterday and my guests couldn't stop raving about them (banded and non banded alike)! Pepperoni pizza Bites Serving size: 1 bite recipes makes 24 Ingredients 1/2 cup shredded pizza blend cheese 1/2 cup fat-free cottage cheese 1/4 cup fat-free cream cheese, softened 1 tablespoon olive oil mayonnaise 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano 2 scallions, chopped 2 ounces pepperoni, finely diced 24 round won ton wrappers 1/2 cup pizza sauce Directions 1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a mini muffin tin with cooking spray. 2. Combine pizza cheese, cottage cheese, cream cheese, mayonnaise, oregano, and scallions in a food processor until smooth. Stir in pepperoni. 3. Gently press won ton wrappers into prepared muffin cups, allowing won ton edges to extend above sides of the cups. Spoon 1 teaspoon pizza sauce into each cup, then add 1 rounded teaspoon pepperoni mixture into each cup. 4. Bake about 15 minutes or until won ton edges are golden brown and pepperoni mixture is heated through. Serve hot. Per serving: Calories: 54 Sat. Fat: 1g Fat: 2g Cholesterol: 5 mg Sodium: 165 mg Carbs: 6g Fiber: 0g Sugar: 1g Protein: 3g
  14. It thinks it pretty much depends on your anatomy. I have no idea what size band I have and frankly I don't care, as long as it keeps working for me!
  15. My doc says 1-2 days of full liquids and 1-2 days of soft foods after a fill. It's annoying but I listen because when you get a fill your stomach gets irritated and a little swollen. It needs a little TLC for a few days. I tend to lose a few pounds during this time so it's also a bonus for me
  16. According to my doctor, drinking with meals is one of the top reasons that lap band patients have lack of weight loss success. I just don't do it. Wait at least an hour after eating before drinking again, and stop drinking anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes before.

    Question

I have lost 42 pounds since surgery (plus 10 pounds on the pre op diet), so my average would be about 6-7 pounds a month.
  18. I've been fighting the same three or four pounds for a couple of weeks now and was starting to get discouraged. I went for another post op visit a few days ago and the PA determined I needed another fill (my fifth). Today I stepped on the scale and could hardly believe my eyes. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome me to... ONEDERLAND!!! I must have weighed myself twenty times to be sure (my scale is stupid), but I finally made it! I thought I would jump up and down or burst into tears but instead I just gave my fiance a thumbs up and sat right down to post my victory. It's been a long time coming but it makes it all that much sweeter!

    so horribly frustrated....NOT WORKING!

Don't beat yourself up. You were going through a rough time and weight loss was the last thing on your mind...understandably so. Hopefully now you'll be able to focus more on yourself. Make sure to get enough water and sleep, and make sure you aren't under eating and overexercising (I was stuck at a plateau for that very reason). If your band is too tight, get an unfill otherwise you will resort to eating crap just to get something through the band (happens to the best of us). Good luck!

    Caffeine

I stayed away from it during my healing period but started drinking it again about two months after surgery. I have a cup in the morning with some FF creamer and I don't have any problems.

    Eating like a vacuum cleaner!

I just had another adjustment and I asked the PA what I could do about the PMS issue. Since I crave salt like crazy, she suggested eating pickles since they're lower in calories. Dark chocolate is good for the chocolate cravings, but it should be at least 70% cocoa. Other than that, lock up the cookies and ride it out. I hate PMS!!

    alcohol on the band?

I drink wine about once or twice a week and don't have any problems. The tradeoff is slower weight loss, at least for me.

    Newly banded and sleep

I have always been a side sleeper but had no choice but to sleep on my back for the first week or so. As soon as you can sleep on your side, give it a try...it always helps me anytime I have a lot of gas.
