    2 kinds of feeling stuck

Pork is a big no no for me, I had once and felt it sitting in my chest until it passed. Needless to say I have not had it since.

    new here...terrrified

Hi Paul, It is very common to have some fear and anxity, and you should be asking a lot of questions., it is a huge step to take. I first have to say you really need to be ready to change your lifestlye, so yes you are going to have to give up soda, fried foods, and start moving. That not to say you can't treat yourself once in awhile, but once you see the weight start coming off your not going to want to eat junk again. As for the liquid diet that all depends on your doctor, as for me I only had to do a liquid diet for 2weeks after surgery then I was on mussy food for 2week, no pre-op diet for me, but every doctor is different. For the surgery, it is magor surgery, no walk in the park, I have to say the first 3days were hell. I had really bad gas pain, and slept on the couch sitting up for about a week, but let me tell you it has all been worth it. I had my surgery done May 13th and I have lost 25pds so far, I love my band. I find I no longer want the big portion I was able to eat. I eat off a salad plate, no seconds and very satisfied. You have to be ready for a change. Your lap band is a tool, you still need to watch what you eat, portions, and get moving, the band helps me stay focused. Just yesterday someone at work told me wow you are going to need new scrubs soon, and a patient just today ask me if I had lost weight, and my husband keeps telling me I'm looking good, and that feels amazing. My best advice would be go talk to a doctor and you have to do this for you. Best of luck.
  3. Hi Shannon, I have to say your story could be mine. I am married with two great kids. Have been on every diet, lose weight but can't keep it off. My husband loves me no matter what, but I had to do this for me first and formost, then for my family, to enjoy them again. I was banded on May 13th, and I have to say it has only been a month, but it so far was the best thing I have done. I have lost 20pds so far, and I feel great. I am not hungery all the time, it is amazing how my portion sizes changed and I am satisfied. I did not have to do a pre-op diet, and the liqued diet after was not that bad for me. Any time we make a major change in our life it is going to be scary and unsettling, but hang in there, and stick with the program. The band is just a tool, you still need to work at it. Your mind will still crave the things you wanted before now you have to change your thinking, and ask do I really need that. You will do great, have faith in yourself. Best of luck!

    Pre-op status

First I would double check with your doctor, but for me my doctor gave me a list of different Protein powders I could use. The big thing was it should be low in calories and high in protein. I did not have to do a pre-op diet, however after surgery I found it hard to drink the powdered shakes right away so I used a clear Protein Drink Isopure. you can get in a bottle 20oz, I believe aroud 140cal, and 40grams of protein. After a couple of days I went to a whey Protein Powder, I like the chocolate w/skim milk, It taste just like chocolate milk to me, has 20grams of protein, and with the skim milk 200cal, and only cost me $12. for the container. The thing is to find one you like because not all protein powders are alike. Best of luck!

    Band Question

Last night I made burgers, corn on the cob, and a salad for dinner. I weighed the buger 3oz and a small side salad with chick peas. I was only able to eat half the buger w/out the bun and half the salad and I was full. You have to listen to your stomach. Before the band a full meal would have been two burgers on the bun with all the toppings, a salad, and corn on the cob, but the meaning of a "full meal " will change after the band.

    I was banded yesterday morning - 6.2.11

I was banded on May 13th, and let me tell you the first 3days were pretty hairy, but it dose get better. I had alot of pressure in my back and in the center of my chest, it hurt to take a deep breath. I would get this bubble that would come up the center of my back, felt like I had to burp but couldn't and hurt like hell, but hang in there it is normal. If the pain medication is not helping call your doctor that is what they are there for. It will get better day by day, keep walking and drink slow. Best of luck!

    Can you please help me?

Got my vote, Best of Luck.
  9. Why not try Isporue. It is a liquid Protein drink. It is not thick like a shake and no smell. I really liked grape frost comes in different flavors. I got mine at Vitamine Shoppe. It is 20oz, 160cal, and 40g of protein. I would sip on that the whole day, a little bit at a time. You need to get your protein right now. Best of luck.

Baby Food or NO baby food?

You could use baby food, but why? You can make your own, even when my kids where just starting on solids, I would make extra veggies at dinner, then puree them in the magic bullet with water and put into ice tray. Baby food is no more than the veggie or friut and water. Why pay all that money when you can buy a bag of frozen veggies or fruit and make your own? Just a thought, give it a try!
  11. I was banded two weeks ago, and today is my first day of mushie food, yeh. Anyway, for the first two weeks I was told clear liquids, but you should be getting all your protein. that will keep you from feeling hungery. For me In the morning I would make a protein shake, I was allowed skim milk, I would make 8oz 190cal, 20grams protein, and that would take me sometimes 3hours to drink. Then I brought Isopure it is a clear protein drink, 20oz, 160cal. 40grams of protien, and I would sip on that all day in betweem my water. If I felt a little hungery I would have a few teaspoons jello or 4oz of broth. I have to tell you I was not really hungery at all. But make sure you get your protien. I was told by my doctor it is not about calories right now but your protein. Best of luck.
  12. I am 13days post-op and still on a liquid diet so I try to get 60g a day. That is 3 Protein shacks, and believe me they last me all day, with a little sugar free Jello, or broth, no hungery!

any may 2011 bandsters out there?

I was banded on May 13th. The first 3days were pretty hairy, but now I am starting to feel like my old self again, and down 11.1pounds not to bad. Good luck to everyone.
  14. I was banded on May 13th, and I make sure I get 60g of protein a day. In the morning I make an 8oz protein shack with skim milk thats 28g of protein, it may take me 2 to 3 hours to drink it. Then for the rest of the day, I went to the vitamin shop and brought Isopure grape frost is pretty good, I sip on that and that is 20oz, 160cal, and 40g of protein. Right now I now my calories are low but I was told the most important thing in the beging is make sure you get your protein. Best of luck to everyone.

    Banded yesterday and worried

I know how you feel. I was banded on May 13th, and for the first 3days I had such sever gas pain and pressure in my back and chest. I called my Doctor hysterical. However I was not given liqued pain meds, so I was afraid to take them. They told me to then crush them and take them they will help you relaxe and sleep alittle, and to walk. I also had this horrible bubble that would feel like I had to burp, but couldn't, give it a couple more days and you will be feeling much better. Even my husband can not get over what a difference a few days makes, I was hystercial the first few days in pain and woundering why did I do this to myself, but I am now 13 pounds lighter in one week, we just need to adjust our thinking, and change is always scarry. Best of luck and hang in there.

    Good to go for Friday

Hey Thee-O, want to wish the best of luck tomorrow, I am also getting my band done tomorrow on Friday the 13th, it's going to be our new lucky day!!
  17. Best of luck. Will be thinking of you today!
  18. Hi e, I am scheduled to have my surgery on May 13th, I am scared and nervous, but most of all I am soooooo excited. This is a new beging, and I want to say thank to members such as sashamarie who share thier great success storie. Sometimes you come on here and read about all these problems people are having and it makes me wonder what am I doing, then you read these great success stories, and I know that will be me. So best og luck to you, I will be thinking of you, and keep us posted on your recovery.
  19. Hi Dave, I know how you are feeling. I am schedualed to have my band put in on May 13th, and right now Iam so second guessing myself. I keep saying to myself maybe I can do it on my own without the band, but I have been down that road soooo many times and it just never works for me. So I know you are scared about a lot of things the surgery it self, the way you are now going to have to eat. I keep saying I just do not want to be one of those people that are always having problems, but I have found a couple of people on the site who have had a lot of great succes and I keep in touch with them. So I know that you can have great success as long as you do and follow your new guidlines. Everything has to change, from the way I eat to the way I think about food, and you have to be ready. I know I am scared and nervous, but at the same time I am ready to start living my life again, and enjoying my family. Hang in there, if you have prayed about it and have the support and are truly ready to make a life time commitment you are going to be fine. I wish you the best of luck and pray that you fine the peace of mind to know you are doing what is best for you.

    Surgery Question....

Ok, I am an x-ray tech and we do go into the OR when needed for some procedures, never lap-band, however I can't imaging it would be much different. So yes you are naked, then they place a large sterile drape over you only exposing where they will be operating, so I can imagine just your stomach will really be exposed at that point. You will hopefully be under before they remove the hospital gown, and it will be back on when you wake up, never knowing the difference.

How can I convince my husband?

I know how you are feeling. When I started this journey my husband did not agree with it at all. He did not want me to get the lap band, he felt that if I just ate right and exercised I could lose the weight. He also dose not see me as being heavy, in a way that is really sweet, but it does not help, and my husband is the total opposite he needs to gain weight, so it was hard to convince him. Then one night while we were in bed we had a really long tearful, on my end, talk about everything I was feeling and what he was feeling, and come to learn it was the surgery he was worried about, what if something happens to you type of thing. I explained that if I didn't do this to lose weight then something will happen to me not tomorrow or next year, but the medical issues with obeisity are devistating not to mention you mental health and how you feel about yourself. So to make a long story short he supports me now and I am having my surgery on May 13th. You need to do this for you and no one else. Best of luck.
  23. Hi Shea, I was in the same boat. I am 5'4" and weigh 255, I always thought my ins company would refuse me because like you I have NO health problems. However, for my ins to cover the lap band I only needed to have a BMI over 40, and mine is 44. I went through the 6mn wait and just got approved last week, and my surgery is set for May 13th. So hang in there I think most ins are the same, as long as your BMI is over 40, you don't need to have a medical condition, just check call your ins to be on the safe side so you don't go through the 6mn, then find they will not cover it. Best of luck!

    Insurance Denied !

You may want to check with your ins company. I know for me I had to go through the 6mn waiting, and get weighted in by my bariatric Dr. each month, and that is what my ins considered as my 6mn documented weight loss program. I could not use weight watchers or any of those, however they did want me to show that I have tried other ways to lose weight in the past. So again check to see if they want you to be seeing a bariatric doctor for your 6mn weight loss program. Good luck!
  25. I just want to shout it out I finally got my surgery date, May 13th. I am feeling so many things right now, a little scared, nervous, but most of all EXCITED! I feel like finally I am going to get this under control once and for all, and I am doing this for me so I can beging to enjoy my life, and enjoy my family. You don't realize how much you let pass you by all because you either one can't do it because of your weight, or for me I don't want to be noticed because of my weight. I can do this.
