My journey has felt like a long one, although I know many have waited a lot longer, so for that I am grateful that I am on the home stretch. I have a background of being on stage and was therefore quite fit and within the weight limits for my height. I was married young and had children quickly. In the process, I developed some health conditions which caused me to then be medicated, and that left me with a lot of excess weight. I've been on Weight Watchers numerous times over the years, done the Atkins Diet, supplements, Dr controlled diet medication...all to no avail. I would lose at the most 8 lbs but gain that back by the recurring month.
I went to my first seminar on the LapBand procedure in January of this year. I wasn't thinking it would be something that I would be interested in, however the meeting was so informative. I had also known a few people who had gone through it and looked incredible. I booked my appt that day with the surgeon and after my first meeting with him, he encouraged me that I was a great candidate. I had my sleep study to find out I had sleep apnea. Within a few weeks I was sleeping better than I had in years! They did further testing and began me on some therapy, that made a world of difference!
I was denied by insurance but we appealed and I made sure to include all that I had been tested on. I have had the most thorough workup since this journey began! I received my approval last week and my surgery is scheduled for September 21!~ I start meal replacement on Monday (which I'm a bit aprehensive of), gallbladder scan on Wednesday, last Dr appt on the 15th...then off to the new me! I can't wait !
