  1. Congrats on your date. I got mine done on Dec 1st and met the out of pocket with the surgery as our deductible increase for next year. We still need to save so hubby can have his surgery hopefully in April. Lots of overtime for me to work but it is so worth it. I am loving the new me and it has only been one month.

    pizza??

Per my diet guidelines, pizza is not considered a mushie. They are talking the consistency of mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, refried beans. We are not allowed bread yet as that is considered distressful. We don't add meat back until the end of the 4th week. Personally I would be too nervous to do it this so soon after surgery. I rather go slow and build up. There is plenty of time for pizza when I am much farther out and closer/or at goal before I eat things that got me in trouble with overweight in the first place.

My Mom is considering the sleeve...

When doing my research, I found that I could qualify with BMI between 35-40 with one co-morbidity. I was a 38 but diabetic. Does her insurance require two? Personally, I don't beleive in "borderline" diabetes-either you are or you aren't. To me borderline means you are diabetic but controling it by diet and exercise. What is her A1C? Personally if she is going through insurance, she needs to have the exact qualifications. There may be more co-morbidity on a list that may help her qualify. One final thought if her doctor is not on board, can she get another opinion from another doctor who might be more supportive? Good luck as you help her with her journey. I am helping my husband to get his insurance qualifications completed so he can join me on my journey.
  4. I understand. When I started my Journey in Feb I was looking at the band. When I first met with the surgeon, he suggested the sleeve. I was shocked-I then started researching online and reading into this forum. I decided to have the sleeve and I am not regretting it at all. I did all sorts of diet and have been overweight most of my life. I did this for my health and I have already seen the benefits and improvements. It sounds like you have a good doctor thinking of what is best for you. Continue your research so you can make the best decision. I do not regret this at all and I am so excited to see where I will be going on this incredible journey. There is a wealth of information on this forum and wonderful people to help you as you research.
  5. I gained 12 pounds in the hospital and I was only there 24 hours. But it did come off quickly and now the pounds are slowly melting away. Don't be discouraged it happens to most of us. This just shows I was good and hydrated for a few extra days while I got my sips on. Congrats on getting sleeved.

    Airbourne

I think I just saw something that airbourne is a waste of money per an article on yahoo. Just keep washing your hands and if possible try to avoid the sick people.

    Hernia?

I have lifting restrictions for 6 weeks-nothing heavier than a gallon of milk. I found that when I did more housework then what I should have done or loading/unloading the dishwasher, I would have pain in the stomach. Just a reminder you had surgery. Just be aware of how much you are lifting and be careful. I did have a hiatal hernia repair during surgery but I am not concerned of getting a hernia afterwards as I am following my restrictions. Just listen to your body...if you are having pain, slow down on what you are doing. Remember you just had major surgery and it will take some time for the insides to heal.
  8. I was taking metformin 1000 mg twice daily. My sugar would still spike in the 200 during the day. Once I started on the liquid presurgery diet-which was so low carb. I was able to discontinue my medication. I did get one insulin shot in the hospital due to the iv solutions. Since then my sugars have been in the normal ranges and I have not had to take any medications. I will confirm with my PCP in a few months when we repeat labs but I am would say my diabetis is in complete remission and most likely I will never have to take any meds ever again.
  9. In one word.....NO. We all have similar stories, weight loss/weight gain/weight loss/weight gain. I will finally be successful and healthier than I have been in years due to the surgery. It will be saving my life. I am no longer diabetic, I should be off cholestral medication within a few months and my fatty liver disease with reverse and I will not eventually become a canditate for a liver transplant somewhere down the road. Not counting the potential heart disease that runs in the family and the knee replacment surgeries that would have to be recommended. Best decision I made in my life other then getting married to my husband and my 2 wonderful daughters.

    Weight loss stopped

I love it..."metabolism of a geriatric earthworm"...I was sleeved Dec 1st and also experienced a major slow down. We did take my measurements prior to surgery so we did that again and I found that I had lost 21.25 inches all over. Holy Cow. The scale started moving again but it is slow but it is moving (bad habit of weighing several times a day). I don't always see in the mirror the lost but my Husband is saying the muffins and rolls in the back are way smaller. I know "patient is a virture" but I want it now. But I will lose maybe not as fast as others but I am getting smaller. Don't be discourage it will happen.
  11. Have you ever had Talipia before? I know my husband has different fish allergies, he can eat some but not others. Also have you had a lot of cheese before? I found the first few times I had cheese it didn't sit well but luckily I didn't get sick. I know sometimes when I get the stuck feeling it is because I am eating too fast and sometimes too big of bites. Normally talipia is great but give it a few days and then maybe try again but stop after a few bites. Hopefully it will be better the next time. Gosh, and I just bought Talipia at the store tonight.

    So Tired...

Wow...I can't beleive they do not want you to have any protein drinks. I had 2 a day for the first 2 weeks as this also counted to fluids. Have you tried drinking gatorade or something similar to that for the electrolytes. I know others have suggested that. I have moved on to the semi soft food stage and they still want us drinking a protein shake a day. Every place is different. I use Carnation instand breakfast suger free....Since it isn't classified as a protein drink maybe you can do that as not be going against their guidelines. I am still sleeping a good 8 hours a night after surgery and I use to only get 6 before surgery. Good luck and keep plugging away.
  13. Does your bariatric doctor have any seminars or support group? Our office has a monthly seminar for people to learn about weight loss surgery options and also several different support groups for the band, gastric and sleeve. My husband went with me for the seminar and it helped him a lot in understanding more. At that time he felt he could still lose weight on his own. Now following my journey, he understands and is now in working to the insurance requirements to get the sleeved also. Maybe taking him to the doctor with you so that he could ask questions. Let him know that you want to become healhty for him and your children and this is best option for you and since your PCP that should definately help also. Good luck in journey. You will not regret it.

    APPROVED!

Way to go. You will be so happy once you get your official date. Hang in there it will be here before you know it.
  15. Way to go. As most carriers are now changing the positions of the sleeve it was only a matter of time that it becomes the new standard for weight loss surgery. I am so glad my insurance had changed and I was able to do this instead of lab band. Let us know when you get your surgery date.
  16. I complete understand where you are coming from. After yo yo dieting for 20 years, I had come to the realization, I cannot do this on my own and my health was starting to go downhill. I did jump through my insurance hoops with 6 months of supervised visits with my PCP and was approved. I was sleeved on Dec 1st and it was the best decision ever for myself. Congrats on making the steps to become a healthier you. You will not regret it.

    I'm Sleeved!

Way to go Becca. I understand the no sleep in the hospital, they forgot to turn up the heat in my room (the next morning they realized it was set at 55), my Cpap didn't want to work properly and my iv battery ran out of juice so I had to stay plugged in instead of roaming the halls since I couldn't sleep. I don't even remember the pain any more. Now to sip and follow the diet and it will start falling off....my husband is calling me the incredible shrinking woman.

    How Did Everyone Do?

My Christmas was very laid back since I was just sleeved on Dec 1st. I did have my first meat in a casserole on Christmas day and reached "onederland" on Christmas morning. I am looking forward to next year when I am at goal weight and be in much better health to celebrate with friends and family.
  19. I was so craving the mashed potatoes and scrambed eggs when I just short of starting mushies. You should be fine as long as you don't overdo it. Maybe just having some may slow down the urge a bit. I was so scared the first time I really sneezed. Just keep following your diet guidelines and you will be fine.

    One week to go....

I get my Protein from Carnation Instant sugar free Breakfast drink, mixed with skim milk and 1/3 c of dry milk gets it up to 21 grams. I can find it as french vanilla and chocolate. I sometime add 1 Tbsp of Sugar Free Torina Syrups flavors to change it up. I never had any nausea after surgery and I use to have a very sensitive stomach prior ( I would get sick even just thinking of taking a major trip). You will be fine. I am loving my sleeve. I think the preop diet was the hardest for me, now I don't have any hunger and I have to remind myself to eat.
  21. I am sorry you are having difficulties. Have you tried using soy or rice milk since you are lactose intolerate. What about the other types of liquid proteins like Isopure that is not milk based? I am taking Nexium for the acid maybe the doctor can switch you to another type of prescription. It is a good thing that you are going to see your doctor and Nut-hopefully they can help you out. You really need to be having more calories. Your body will adjust and you will be suprised that in actually eating more you will lose weight once your body realizes it is not starving. Good luck and keep us posted.
  22. I couldn't wait to have mashed pototes when I was allowed mushies. You can also do the refried Beans with a little bit of cheese. I also did pork and bean mashed with mini blender. Scrambled eggs are good also. I was told I could do like the WASA brand crackers as they practically turn to mush as soon as bite them so they are like mushies by the time you chew throughly. I have just started to add very finely chopped meat to my diet. I still do a Protein shake as a light night snack just to make sure I am all my protein in. Hang in there it won't be long before you can move on to the next stage.

    Pensacola Meet Up

Not sure if I can, I am in Birmingham, AL. We only have one car at this time so any time I do road trips, I have to do a rental or take Amtrak if traveling to New Orleans. This sounds like so much fun.

    Left Side Hurting

It may be you are over doing it. I got sharp pains on my left side went I bent over to pick up something from the floor, putting dishes in the dishwasher. Remember you just had major surgery. Relax tonight and don't do anything else. If you are still in pain tomorrow, call your doctor and see what they said. Good Luck.
  25. I have the alpine island. The small 8 oz bottle has 15 gr of protein. I tried the Grape Frost bottle which was 40 gr but that was way to sweet and left such an aftertaste. I even tried watering it down and still not good.
